  • HELL YEAH!!

  • la wea bueeena

  • does anyone have the guitar tabs to this??

  • @whateverthehellz you already have them...you have the tabs for pretty much every dna song...

  • the guitar sounds like Albini

  • it's strange to think this stuff was being made amidst "bette davis eyes"

  • A lot better than the studio version

  • 何も申す事は有りません。

    観て頂くだけです。

    奇才アートが爆発!!

    Amazing!!!♪

  • i love this. hate it or love it, it's there.

  • Everything changes except for the Avant Garde.

  • So friggin' sad....drummer seems okay though.....

  • Now I know who taught John Zorn sing.

  • He gone possessed when he play like that, this is amazing.

  • lmfao any1 could do this crapp

  • @Iamcola65 go on, post a video of urself doing this "crapp".

  • @Iamcola65 anyone can type "crapp" on the internet. Why don't you try and write some music and upload it on youtube and lets see how brilliant you are.

  • @wrongkarweis lmao lol lol already did lol

    years ago lmao

  • @whyofcourseim18 these guys were around before any dumbass hipsters.

  • Nobody has EVER played the guitar like him and it just sounds fucking amazing.

  • FUCK YES

  • отлично поблевать!

  • lucky score. great band great artist

  • I still have their stuff on vinyl.

  • Damn hipsters.

  • so good

  • so good

  • omfg I'd sell my soul to play guitar like lindsay ;p

  • fucks Beiber in his tight little earholes

  • ill be back to justin bieber

  • I still can't make up my mind if this is great primal weirdness, or proto-hipster bullshit. I suppose it's a bit of both...

  • @prinznevsky ya i think that too sometimes, not so much with DNA but i understand what you mean man, just curious how did you end up at a DNA vid?? did someone tell you or did you just hear about them? also chek out Lounge Lizards whom Arto was a member of

  • Power Beat♪!

  • this is awesome. just awesome.

  • weird for the sake of weird

  • @kraftwerk456 what makes you say that?? what in particular makes you feel that about them??? do you know much about Arto at all? or have any prior knowledge of them ? i know there is a line art and shit but they are definately on the former side.....i know lots of bands and musicians that fit into that category of weird for sake of it, well at least you are honest and not like some people who simply state that they love this and that band because they know to say that but deep down cant anwer

  • shitty

  • so fucking cool.

  • oh arto lol

  • tim wright turns this song into groovy evil and it rules

  • i've always been bummed that the band Blonde Redhead is nothing more than makeout music for pretty hipsters, instead of actually being interesting.

  • @sligen if that is your opinion and how you feel about this, all good, but just out of curiosuty, how did you end up watching this ?or why? and i suppose you are not a fan of this style of music so again why are you at a SNA vid? maybe you should try checking out Big Black or even Half Japanese and Jad Fair and his solo efforts, that if you clicked this video because you read or heard of them, if you stumbled by accident i guess you wont like the aforementioned either....anyway peace

  • @msnikish ****...at a DNA vid****

  • Epic

  • You gotta love Arto Lindsay's abusive approach to guitar playing.

  • Ikue Mori is so pretty.

  • fu*k yeah

  • owns

  • fucking the best shit

  • Just wonderful.

    :D

  • Yeah you're stressing out a bit matey.

  • what guitar does arto use? and how does he get that sound?!

  • a danelectro or silvertone

  • @Dedbebeh a hater..

  • yeah it looks like a silvertone or something. it's a 12 stringed one and its tuned to saturn (meaning its tuned crazily).

  • Yeah, odds are that guitar is a Silvertone. You can get that sound by using a fender amp (as pictured in the video) and wildly scraping the pick against your strings while the guitar is in an odd tuning. But, don't copy the guy from DNA. Create your own crappy guitar tone.

  • hahah good advice, looks like a Twin Reverb amp.

His guitar sounds kind of like the Ex or Gang of Four so if i even tried to copy Arto id be copying them too.

  • It's on, DNA on DNA

  • does anyperson know what rekord this version is on?

  • It was an EP with only three songs on it. Look also for his work in Ambitious Lovers. A few tracks off of Greed are in the movie Slaves of New York. I particularly liked Envy, but both Envy and Greed are top notch, though they tend to have actual songs on them with great vocals and lyrics. Still playing the guitar like Picasso would, though.

  • I realize this is an old comment, but...

This particular version is only on the Downtown 81 movie soundtrack. It isn't on the DNA on DNA cd. AFAIK, they recorded 3 versions of each of the songs they did for the film and picked the one they liked best. Hopefully some day they'll release all 9 tracks.

  • wtrf

  • i love that bassline, anyone got any bass tabs?

  • dudes going for it

  • absolutely love the drumin of all the no new york stuff

  • i love this...

i also love the fact that, judging by the last 20 comments or so, people either LOVE this or they HATE it....

im sure DNA would be equally happy to extract either emotion from u... it makes u feel something!!!

a trait missing in so much modern mainstream music...

  • Arto Lindsay is a god.

  • thats impressive you have such a strong reference to such a very specific act. you must love arto then!!

dna is nothin but the straight blues..

    have another bong dood.

  • bluesfest has tons and tons of bands from every genre u can think of, not like i'm a blues man or anything but i mean wtf??? how is this blues, last time i checked blues had soul and sounded good (u know *soul** the thing that normally requires talent).

have another bong? u don't smoke do u?

    also,,, whos arto??

  • i'm souless and without talent.. dont ask me.

  • arto is the lead "singer". the tall skinny dude with glasses

  • Yeah!

  • i love the way they walk in this video

  • fun stuff

  • brilliant, absoloutely love the drums on this.

  • the RAWness of the 80's. Period whether you like or not, this was the culture! THis is apart of fucking America!

  • i hate my cat

  • Oh my god...fucking genious. i havnt been this in love with a song since some of sonic youths stuff. How did i miss these guys?

  • YES

  • man you're a jackass

  • EPIC, EPIC FAIL!!!!! EVEN MY VIDS ARE BETTER! WERE THEY HIGH OR DRUNK OR SOMETHING WHILE MAKING THIS? BOOOOOOOO! GO AWAY, SMELLEH HIPPIES, AND DONT COME BACK!!

Also, please watch my videos and give them five stars. Thank you, and God bless!

  • Dna blew my mind when i was in high school.

    true originality!

    Basquiat too!

i still spray paint some of his stencils around town...

i love this track i have it on tape.

    later on i found out there's a movie..weird.

    cheers..from Lost angeles.

    Jacvintage1981

    Mexico city.

  • Damn hippy!

  • what really sucks is that this kinda music is dead. everyone is so SCARED to really be experimental. its all about clean sounding pro-tools stuff. everyone is affraid of hiss, or not hitting the perfect chord, etc.

i wish i was alive (or of the appropriate age) to be apart of this stuff (i was born '81).

DNA, suicide, lounge lizards, mars, etc.

respect to bands who still try to (KINDA) keep NO-Wave alive (the liars, a.r.e weapons, etc)

  • no way man! come to boston and see my band toilet phone play!

  • any shows in nyc soon? thats where i currently live (altho im actually from mass, haha)

  • actually we're looking into booking a show at goodbye blue monday in April. and we also are probably playing at the dougls street music collective in feb in brooklyn

  • and i usually put on a show once a month at Mass Art (my school) of various bands and musicians. Also am playing a solo thing as part of the douglas street music thing in Boston this month

  • Yeah, but the music sucked. Maybe if it was GOOD experimental...

  • clearly you were molested by your father or uncle, and you take your aggression out by posting millions of negative comments on youtube.

so i guess every time you post a stupid comment means youve been raped.

    keep it up.

  • Always says shit like that, man. That's such a cop-out. There's so many great experimental bands out there, you just need to look. "its all about clean sounding pro-tools stuff" implies that you haven't looked much further than FM-radio. What you should really do if you're so upset about it, though, is buy a cheap Japanese knockoff guitar and start your own band! By the way, I'm not being hostile/sarcastic. Just saying!

  • lol, no ur not being hostile/sarcastic, youre just being kinda ignorant. i love how from 1 post you assume i listen to the radio (which i dont @ all), dont explore music (if you only knew me...), and just make other silly general assumptions. i love how you try to talk down to someone who lives in downtown manhattan (ME) that i dont explore experimental bands/music.

btw, i was speaking generally. yes there are experimental bands (altho not on the level of DNA, but still...) but not that many

  • Sorry for the ignorance, but you can see how I was led to assume these things by your original post, no? Also, I wasn't trying to talk down to you (especially on the basis of your geographic location, to which I was unaware and is of no major significance); just trying to get my point across. Anyways, sorry for the misunderstanding! Much respect for having some mutual taste in music/art!

  • Much repect for DNA and Basquiat.

  • That's "No Wave"

  • Yeah DNA definitely moved in on your turf. Especially considering that they formed in the late 70's and disbanded in the late 80's... and you guys have been performing for the last 3 years.

    How dare those bastards!!!

FYI This "music" and these musicians is/are considered iconic. Apologies to you and Nick.

  • Excuse me, they disbanded in the early 80's.

Either way, I am shocked you have never heard of them.

  • Shut the fuck up,i seriously doubt that anything you do will ever inspire anyone.

  • Dude, you are a gay, and you're band probably is too.

    Much disrespect.

  • First of all, your [CapsLock] key doesn't seem to be broken, so let's chalk it up as a user-error. TYPING LIKE THIS DOESN'T MAKE IT EASIER TO GET YOUR POINT ACROSS - IT MAKES YOU SOUND LIKE A MORON.

Secondly, you've been busting your asses 'MUSICLY' when you should have been busting them in your English class. How can you expect to write 'ORIGINAL' music when you never learned how to write?

    Musically.

  • Well, danturgeon, you must be retarded.

  • dna broke up in the 80s dumbfuck

  • It almost sounds like Andy Gill has stole some moves on the guitar from Arto Lindsay

  • dna was the shit. i wish ikue still played drums occasionally, although the electronic stuff is awesome.

  • this one scene inspired me to start a band

  • i miss the nineties

  • you mean the 80s

  • Really the 70's.

  • ggggggggg ,, g.. gggg ... god i love this !!!!

  • killer

    thanks

  • this is scary :(

  • I love DNA. But one night I smoked some weed laced with PCP unknowingly and watched Downtown 81 and had the worst panic attack to this song. Ha.

  • hah that's really funny because i was just thinking that...i love dna but i couldn't listen to them stoned, my brain gets TOO analytical and it gets to be too much.

  • wow, for starters i'd just like to thank god for putting me on this planet just to hear that song, sometimes it feels like my cause in life was to hear that. the music itself was deep and moving, with an utmost sense of urgency, conveying a beautiful melody.

  • awesome dude

  • my god, it's so everything

  • FYI....blonde red head means a red head girl with a blonde bush

  • Haha. I hope the band knew that when they named themselves after the DNA song.

  • Yeah, this is a classic spot. Still dont get the Blonde Redhead tag....

  • it's the song name.

  • Ahh. Thanks.

  • If you like experiment in music, just try TACUARA NOD, available on youtube

  • amo a Blonde Redhead :P

  • love this movie! (and DNA!)

  • Daring, uninhibited and completely original, free from the preconception of what constitutes music.

  • you said it. they destroyed almost every inch of music theory and in place built a monument to something beautiful and primitive.

  • Yes!!

  • What a sick bassline...

  • yeeeeees thank you so much finaly this vids back

  • YES!

  • Yehey DNA rocks thanx for posting this classical No Wave Tune.

  • Donde pillai estos videos, Sopas? Están la raja. (soy gab)

  • Es de una pelicula, Downtown 81, protagoniza por Basquiat y ademas performance de varias bandas entre ellas DNA. Via emule la encuentras.
