Man I have my master degree in Jazz and I think that you have to respect more metal music. Of course Dave is not the best drummer of all time but 20 years ago, it was really crazy to play that kind of drumming so he innovate more than you and I so maybe you really dont like this music but I can tell you that there a lot of really really good drummer with jazz influences in metal ( Dave is not included). Listen to Cynic, Flo Mounier, Derek Roddy, Mike Minneman.
