For a while I had never heard him finish the note. I love this song so much though, I have listened to almost every version of it. I
f you look at the NY times interview posted on youtube by another user during part 5 he sings this song, and finishes the note all the way. I was soo amazed. That is by far the best performance of him that I have heard.
@dave62nick i saw him in manchester on thursday night and he sang that note absolutely perfectly...really powerful and for the full length of it. he's an amazing vocalist isn't he
@danieltilling Yes he is amazing, what I guess I meant by my comment was that the note is so perfect, that it creates such a sense of longing, that the strain needed to reach it only adds to ins poignancy.
If you REALLY want to hear a magnificent and hair-raising arrangement of this song (and 2 of his others), you must attend the New York City Gay Mens' Chorus concert at FIT on June 4 and 5, 2008! Imagine "Vibrate," "Beautiful Child" and "Oh What a World" sung by a 250-man chorus. We are ecstatic to bring Rufus' remarkable music to the masses with our voices!
He captures a really terrible moment in life indelibly. No one is better at capturing longing in melody, lyrics and performance. That's because he puts his whole heart into everything he does.
Everytime I hear this song I always look forward to the moment he goes very high and 'VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII brate'. :D Rufus is brilliant.
No? What's it about then? Because lyrically it sounds like its about the juxtaposition of being a human vibrator, but of course I'm only interpreting here, only the writer really knows and often the original meaning becomes lost to the listener and re-invented don't you agree?
agreed! I see what you're saying- The song's just like he says- he keeps his phone on vibrate for the person he loves, so like instead of saying "i never hear from you" he says "I never feel from you" it's sweeter, more intimate, but still just about waiting for that phone call from that special someone :)
rufus himself has said he wrote the song about a go-go dancer he spent one night with and gave his number to then tried to find the next night, so he wandered from bar to bar with his phone in his pocket on vibrate lol. can't believe that guy didn't call him! hehe.
yea, sugar said that stupid HIV thing elsewhere. ignore it people! don't know why sugar feels the need to be a horrible person
I attended his concert yesterday in Vancouver and he announced and that he is engaged to marry. Lucky man whomever he is!
