Best about the game was the shooter levels? i don't think so.. i HATED those stages... they sucked for me, i loved the platform stages more.

This game proves one thing : The publisher Treasure got some balls. They took a raw & unpolished concept like Shubibinman/Shockman & elevated it to the level that Gunstar Heroes sits alone on... So for me Shockman serves as a mere canvas for something greater :P

What's amazing is this game is the 2nd in a series, but possess the crude nature of a 1st attempt... odd if you ask me.

Spot on review once again Chris on a title that shouldn't have been, well for us anyways...

Ouch! you were tough on this title. Some of the stages/bosses look SO cool. It's very interesting just getting into the TurboGrafx and it's unique games after so many years of only collecting SNES & Genesis games. There was so much I missed out on! So thanks and keep the reviews coming!

@kenbefound Ha ha. Well....it's still an "okay" game. But, my problem is that it's not as fun as it "looks." You know? But, again, a LOT of people love this game so....I would say give it a shot if it looks fun to you. You might enjoy it a ton more. :)

You can tell that this game is really trying to take the SNES spec's, but the Hue card can only do so much storage... So this was the reason why of no special intro. There was sooooo much installment in the game play and not enough to install for a story. If I remembered right, a hue card can go 1mb, an NES is 256K - 512KB maxed out cartridge, and genesis can go high as 3mb, NES had went 4MB with Killer instinct and Doney Kong Country.Look at the characters in this Shiyubibi Man. Only 2 sprites

If not for the pretty graphics and similarities to Mega Man, I would've never pushed myself through this game.

I still kind of like it and even play it once in a while but, it can get frustrating if your timing is even slightly off.

Yeah, it was just one of those weird "happenings" that can't really be explained. You know? It never froze after that as I plowed through the game a second time. Sigh.....it was just my luck. :)

Well, that makes sense why I couldn't find much info on this game. "Schbibin Man". You were quite harsh though. This game deserved at least a 3; it fixes two of Megaman's most common problems: crouch and multi-directional shooting. Also, the kick-ass boss theme. Story might be cheesy, but I did like that line at the start "Can I trust Doc? He's told me nothing but lies". Deep.

I'll probably get this sometime for 2-player co-op. I have a friend who loves to play co-op games and isn't big on more competitive multiplayer (unless it's a racing game =P) so I think we could have fun with this. Plus, I love platformers, so I tend to be a bit more forgiving with games like this.

I remember drooling over this game in an old gamepro; this was way before any anime art was popular, in fact game companies 99 percent of the time excised all anime art when translating games. But they left it in this one; the ads and such had those awsome futuristic anime characters with the robo ears that i drew, drew, and drew some more. I had an anime influenced style in my art since 1990.

I watched your review to try to get a feel for whether I'd be interested in picking up this game on the VC or not. Maybe it's because I'm unfamiliar with the game, but it seemed like you spoiled a lot (if not everything) about the game in your review. Was it really necessary to do that? Shockman isn't to bad though it is out done by the 3rd game in the serise.Since it go's back to how the original plays,useing the sword as a weapon instead.Though i like shockman to a degree.I guess becuase it's gameplay reminds me of megaman for the most part.

I want to like it, but it appears that the second game was released in America (which was stupid), but I must say, the game play looks interesting. Do most of the Turbo Grafx games have the same side scrolling shooters (which are fun and addicting am I right), and infinite continues? Keep 'em coming! I'm glad to be subscribing to a reviewer who doesn't over exaggerate about games like the Irate Gamer.

It does have interesting gameplay. My favorite part is the fact that it switches between a couple of different genres. You know? But, honestly..........that's one of the only things I liked about it. I hate it when we get sequels that don't tell the story of the first game..... especially when we DON'T GET THE ORIGINAL! Heh heh, anyways cool review here. The game was fairly disappointing and could have used a lot more depth.

I mean, I'm sure if the game came out originally and told the "original" story, the second one would be more meaningful (I hear that the second in the series IS better than the original, at least that's what I'm told). But, from a USA perspective, it was silly and......I don't know......the game just left me feelin' empty. :(

Adding a couple of flashbacks would have helped but even that won't have saved it from the boring overall game play. Sadly I heard the third one kills both of the prequels...... of course that one is only in Japan so I never played it.
