The Problem is, the standards of what is ' beautiful' have already been defined in the form of celebrities, singers. And unfortunately if we don't look like them, (which is fairly obvious we won't unless we are an identical twin or something like that) then we are committed to a life of misery. Unless, we use our brains and don't buy into this nonsense. As women we are exploited on so many levels.I can't change my genetic makeup, and no amount of clinique is going to enhance or alter that!
I read the beauty myth with interest and concern as a 20year old man. I then read Christina Hoff Sommers analysis of Wolf's rather fanciful use of statistics. She demonstrated that the tome I'd been wading through wasn't insightful, it was basically wishful thinking. Apparently her, Faludi, Steinham etc had been routinely pumping out junk statistics, because... it's all for the good, yes? They were going to sue Hoff Sommers, but backed out fast. Wolf never apologised. I never trusted her since.
great video! this is totally true. i think confidence, bravery, and a sparkling personality make you more attractive and appealing than a gorgeous face :)
I've got to say, the most beautiful women I've met are not physically attractive in the mass media accepted sense of the word but to hear them speak or read their words is to expeience lasting beauty. It truly is on the inside. To hell with appealing to men's eyes, we just perpetuate the vicious cycle of our quest for beauty.
The Beauty Myth is an excellent book for anyone considering a new perspective on beauty.
Beauty is what the patient sees in the carer, what the child sees in the loving parent, what the lover sees in the loved. Beauty is what even the blind can see.

the irony is that by claiming thick is more beautiful than thin you are just creating a new ideal.

@Castaril But I never did that, I just suggested that thick is also beautiful.
