Hi, you have been doing well in your reaction to my messages, thank you. All I anted to say as, supply and demand has plenty to do ith imigration, the changes here in toronto have been unkind and unfair to many, our family know many ho are highty educated, and they are unable to find work, By the way my computer acted up so I could not finish the last message, I was saying that a house sold in Oklahoma city for 85 thousand, and a simialr smaller house sold in toronto for 450.000, Corrupt city.
@teendude16 I assumed that the remainder of your comment was something of the sort, and replied accordingly. A few points: Immigration maintains our population levels. Without new Canadians, we would actually see a decline as birth rates are insufficient to maintain population at present. My house is worth 400 000. I could buy a house twice the size in Timmins Ont. for around 85 000. Nothing to do with corruption in the city… As for being out of work, that's surely not a result of immigration!
@TheUghman John Tory is is a "Tory", wh\y can't some people see what these people are, They have a hidden motive, I didn't care for Maroney, nor Harper, no one conserative, they're all in bed with banks and big industry to name a few. Toronto is not a Conserative supporter, they dont belong here, what we need is not there Conserative Party Trash. The truth is, all Parties are full of it. That's what I meant to say that is. this city is un-affordable , who wants to pay 400,0000 for a house.
@teendude16 - OK, I take from your name (face-value is a poor footing from which to start any discussion…) that you are possibly a dude, perhaps a teen and maybe around 16 years old. Such an unfortunate monicker in the event that you hope to use (or have already been using) this account for any time to come. One: Who is overlooking the notion that John Tory might be a "Tory" (ie. conservative)? Did he cleverly conceal his political leanings by serving as leader of the provincial Conservatives?
@teendude16 - Further, John Tory is no longer in politics, so a peculiar argument right off the hop there.
TWO: Every government in a party-driven system has an agenda that is frequently at odds with the voting public. No sense singling out any one party. McGuinty's Liberal government has been something of a disappointment, and arguably more so than the federal Conservatives, whatever your political leaning. If you‘re concerned that houses are expensive, that‘s a result of the free market…
@TheUghman Hi, ya, I know about john tory being out of the race, and yes, I know that all political parties have an agenda, like Harper spending over a billion for G7 G20 Sumit, (talk about Wasteful spending). As far as the free market goes for housing, it is because of the Dam imigration policies, 100,000 people being allowed into Canada yearly, since how long now. Yet real nice homes in the usa like oklahoma sold for
@teendude16 - You use "conservative" as an insult, while on the other hand blaming immigration for the housing prices in Toronto? It would be worthwhile for you to give yourself some time to develop a firm, reasoned foundation for your opinions. You may compare housing prices from region to region, that's apples and oranges. The price of a house in Oklahoma varies by location. You can compare the price of a home in Oakland CA to a house in Gander Newfoundland if you wish, but it's meaningless.
@teendude16 To sum up, dissatisfaction with government is NORMAL. That‘s how democracy goes. If you‘re fomenting for affordable housing for all (and we DO have that here in Canada, BTW) or relief for the poor (again, yay Canada…) or you think that handicapped lesbian Latvian folk-singers should have free rehearsal studios to create interpretive dance routines presenting a barbed mockery of the established capitalist system, I'm sure there‘s a party for you, but prepare for disappointment.
Guns are a 6 billion dollar industry in Canada that has 35000 people employed with 25 miion guns +/- in Canada 7 million registered
Gun owners (the legal ones) still are not the problem
Taking guns away make gun viloence go up, always no sometimes.
The cops are currently making laws and charging gun owners.
If your firearms licence expires, they can not only confiscate your guns, also your house immediately (it is called profits from crime). Guilty until proven inocent.
@at1212b - I may have to do a post-election analysis video… my opinion of Ford hasn't changed - I like the guy, but I don't think his campaign promises can be kept. We certainly should be cutting back on spending, but not at the expense of services, and we should not sell off a huge chunk of municipal capital assets. We need a balanced and responsible approach to city governance. We don't want the elastic to snap back too far! I was behind Rocco Rossi all the way. Too bad he dropped out…
Yes, and people SHOULD care about their local legislation. The City needs to maintain their focus on their LOCAL mandate.
With the city workers on strike now, it gives me yet another reason to dislike that massive garbage bin. In an effort to reduce my use of plastic bin liners, much of my garbage (all dry garbage and non-recyclable of course) goes in tot he bin loose. Now, if I need to bring it to a garbage transfer station myself, I need to unload the bin into plastic garbage bags!
By-laws are indeed laws and wouldn't be enacted by the City if they conflicted (ultra vires) with provincial or federal legislation. For example, the City's cosmetic pesticides by-law is now inactive due to provincial legislation governing the same (and arguably in this case, the Province is intervening with a local regulatory issue).
That's why we pay for the City's legal department to review by-laws prior to their enactment.
I appreciate your explanations on my questions and rants. It helps me understand more clearly the changes. I'm actually 17 now. Thank you.

So where is the follow-up comment? On how Rob Ford has a good chance of being the next Mayor?

True municipal governments don't enact health or human rights legislation but I'm sure people will care when the garbage gets really, really stinky.

Right. How is that news? If anything, it reinforces the point that they are at the lowest rung of legislation.
