I think the message is there, alright. He's contrasting the freedom of birds and animals with the restrictions of industrial society on people, and delighting, by the sound of it, in the whole natural world. Just couldn't think of a punchy way to say all that :0)
It's from his children's album. I don't know much of his stuff to be honest, although I did see him play with Tony Benn once. I just think it's a lovely song.
