John thought the same thing. The only reason they did the faster version is that Paul thought is would sell better. They agree to release the faster one and save this one for the album. BTW the same thing happened with HELP! The orig was slow and sad - kind of like You've got hide your love away. (in fact there is a vid of Paul performing at a concert on u2b the way that John wrote it.) Luv to all Beatles and fans.

No I was not trying to correct you. It was John's lucky and favorite number his whole life. If you read the reply by countryandpivot you wil see that it was even on a firetruck that his granfather gave him, probably helping to encourage his fantasy witht he number nine. He was born on the 9th, appared on Ed sulliven (beatles debut) on the 9th, so the idea of apple studios number 9 being the reason would have to be false. Many people's favorite number is their birthdate anyway. Mine is.

It's funny, because this video was originally for this version of the song. Then it was sped up for the more popular version, and now you've put it back to how it was originally. I love this version more than the single version because it really gets what John was trying to say. The lyrics say "Chill out, it's gonna be alright" and here the music matches. In the single version, the music is fast and stimulating, which is not what Lennon intended. I see why he prefered this version.
