Get a 1611 King James the bible was finally put in easier English so in that time period they understood what it meant. Our English language came from the king James bible. When I learned that I could understand better looking up words in dictionary and find meaning in the verses and in its context. And God repeats ideas over in bible so to grow in understanding. I used other translations but could not sense Gods presence like when using the King James.
I think the best translation is when St. Jerome translated it into latin, thus allowing the church to more easily convert the western part of the Roman Empire. One should remember that, in writing the books of the bible, the authors were translating Gods word into something the people could identify with.
The Message is AWFUL! Read Zechariah 13:6 in the NASV or KJB (the two best translations, preferably the King James though) It's a Messianic prophecy concerning Christ's crucifixion/Resurrection. Check the Message. It's a plain perversion.

@judahbenhur1000 thank you, that needed to be said. I use the ESV personally but the NASB and KJV and NKJV are all great because they are literal translations. In the esv they looked at the RSV and put it side by side with the original greek and Aramaic texts and basically fixed the problems
I am a Jehovah's Witness. I like the NWT a lot. Very good translation.
I think the New American Standard (NAS) is a really good cleaned up version of the KJV. It restored the Divine name, fixed a lot of the KJV errors and typos. I do not recommend the Revised New American Standard (RNAS). Basically, same as NAS, but Divine name removed.
I do recommend the Emphatic Diaglot. It is a translinear copy of the Greek scriptures. I use it often, when I need to go the Greek.
Did someone actually cite the NWT as a good bible? That translation is entirely based upon Watchtower theology instead of God's Word. It might be easy to understand, but the translation is approximately 15-20 percent false and deceptive interpretation. P.S, the NWT adds the name Jehovah to places where it never existed in the bible, ie: New Testament

You didn't mention anything about the manuscripts that the texts are based on. With different translations occasionally they use different manuscripts from which those translations are then interpreted. I understand that you don't wanna go through the whole textual critical process on your vid but I think it is lacking without a mention of where and what these bibles come from.

Nicely put. As a missionary I decided to get away from translators and learn the lingo myself. I went to an institute to learn the language and have been preaching in it now for 30 years. There is one thing I have come to understand, that there really is no difference between the terms 'translations' and 'interpretations'. Going from English to another language you find yourself having to interpret what you mean to say. Even if you know the NT Greek, you have to interpret what you translate.
hm... I don't know, as a linguist, I would much rather have the most accurate translation of Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic for any purpose that was listed...
