  • That is a horrible kip up, good kips should be landed as in a front handspring, with a straight body.

  • dude...its just abt timing......get da timing right and u will do it in the first attempt....i took 3 months but stilli timing is a lot imp..when u kick up and bend ur knees then push with ur hand and bring ur torso up....master this 3 step and u will do kip up in 1 week...bboy advice..

  • or shorter i did it (on beginning of my training) for i dont know 15-30 minutes ... like 60 times or so and mastered it its not that difficult but a important thing is also try to do it the first times on something like your bed. the harder the ground the harder the kipup ;)

  • how far do you roll back? you're only supposed to go up to your shoulders, but if your going up to your neck that might be a problem :P

  • i can do it up into a bridge / crab, but i cant do the full thing, i land leaning back with my legs on the floor, but i always fall backwards and thats on a good one

  • try rolling back further all the way on your shoulders and set off in an explosion push with your hands and kick with your legs as hard as you can train it and you'll be doing it in no time

  • the funny thing is, that my friend practiced for 2 days, got it. my other friend's been practicing for 2 months. still cant do it. but i can do it.

  • I've been practising for 2 weeks and I still can't do it. I think it helps to have a very strong upper body

  • nah not really. my friend doesnt have a strong upper body and he can do it. the best thing to do is just to practice on a bed thats not too cushiony or a workout/yoga mat. or u can practice on grass so you wont hurt your self. and in this video....its pretty stupid like really. it wont work. i'll make a video on how to do it when i get the camera xP. and i'll give every detail you need to do it too. :D

  • Is a Kip Up a powermove?

  • No. It's a very easy and simple move. It doesn't really need much strength to do.

  • No I mean powermove as in breakdancing, because there are different categories for each move. So i was wondering if a kip up was in the powermove category.

  • Powermoves tend to require a lot of strength to start and maintain, and since kip ups don't require much strength to start and maintain, kip ups aren't classified as such. They weren't originally used in bboying, so I guess they have no true classification. Like the butterfly kick and backflip.

  • It is used in bboying though, it does not have to be originally from bboying. Like top rocking came from sala dancers. And some moves that dont require a lot of strength are still considered powermoves. Like backspin, head slide, and kneespin. Plus most powermoves just require a lot of balance not just strength.

  • I'm saying since it wasn't bboy original, there is probably no classification for it. But anyways, according to the definitions we gave of a power move, I would say a kip-up isn't a power move.

  • i wouldn't say it's weird. If you can do no handed then it means your neck is very strong and the no handed depends alot on what kind of strength you have in the neck. While the normal kip up reqiuers that you have good arm muscles to be able to lift yourself up, i guess you haven't got any good arm muscles.

  • Its not actually the arms that do the pushing in a normal kip up. The arms offer stability and minimal lift. Its the snapping torso motion and the legs that give the person lift.

  • if you got how to do a kip up from this, that's cool, but the thing is, the real way to do a kip up is to just lay there and only bring your knees up to the level of your chin instead of way over your head. that's the actually difficult way to do it that's how i learned it. once you have that, try doing it with no hands
