Pretty good video just a few problems though a John Deere 4020 diesel didn't come from the factory with a turbo. The turbo charged 4020 came out later and was called the 4320 and also if at all possible u may want to grease that disc. Just my thoughts
Turbo 4020's were rare, it was common for the 4010's as their blocks didn't overheat like the 4020's did. My dad had two, the first one in 1965. It was a dealer's demo, so the pump was turned up and it put out around 110 hp. It would pull 5-16's in 5th gear. He replaced it with a 1969 model with a normal pump. Not nearly as loud. A neighbor had two 4010's, one with a M&W turbo. He had a New Idea picker with a sheller attachment. For harvest, he set that pump at 120 h.p. for the PTO work.
A few years ago, I had a 1966 Synchro Shift 4020 Turbo Diesel with the M&W Turbo kit on it. I miss it immensely. I never should have sold it. She needed paint, rubber and just a few little items. She was very complete, not beat up at all, and the perfect resto candidate. My 4020 also had an aftermarket hydraulic 4x4 assist front end made by Levy Live Power Industries out of Canada. She was a rare beast. I figure it will be getting the shit beat out of it, as I sold it to a logger. :-( How sad.
hard to find a 4020 with out a smashed hood sitting on the dealer lots now adays or with a burnt out powershift or something wrong with em every one who had a 4020 has had to have at least 10000 hours on em by now ive only seen one 4020 that hasnt had a smashed hood or a wrecked powershift or crappy cab on it that mine i try to treat it like a million dollars love that 4020
i got a paw paw who got a 4020 thats in pretty good shape without a cab. youre right though 4020s are some of the worst lookin JDs around. except yours and mine.
they have a very distinct sound.... my neighbors have a 4020 with the turbo and the straight pipe (tim allen grunt hohoho) i can hear that tractor and tell instantly that it is their 4020. not as clean as yours though

Appears to be a '67 model, as early '68's came with the side console hydraulics.

Yeah, it's because they get used and not just sit around like little prissy show tractors.
