  • Water hyacinths

  • what type of plants are in ur filter?

  • Never scrub down a koi pond as you will kill off your beneficial bacterial. Try not to do more than a 10 per cent water exchange if you can help it. The plants will help with the algae, decrease feeding, and try to get a small box filter that you place in the small pond.

  • I use floating water hyacinths . I use a net to contain them if they are in the pond because the koi tear at the roots and make a mess in the water if I don't. The koi love to spawn on the netting if you want to try to raise babies.Mosquitoes are not a problem...I think the koi eat the eggs. The water flow from the filter keeps that water turning over back into the pond so no mosquito problem there either.

  • what type of plants can i use 4 the filter?

  • I have goldfish in my pond instead of koi, but I just let them eat the roots of the water hyacinths. The plants multiply fast enough that the fish don't kill them. I also have an aquatic pot with papyrus in gravel that the fish can get to the roots of as the roots grow out of the pot. The fish seem to be quite healthy, and I don't feed them any fish food all summer. Of course, I don't have a lot of fish in the pond. 120 gallons of water in the pond, 3 big goldfish, that spawned this year.

  • with these plants i don´t need to uso UV filter! =)

  • how bout mosquito's?.... do you get mosquito's breeding in your pond or in the filter tank?

  • haha i hav a small white rack :D

  • Hi there love your pond I have a 60 gallon preformed pond that houses turtles.I do not currently have a filter only a pump for circulation and my water is sooo green with algae.I just got some of the water hyacinth if I were to put these in the pond would this help the algae any ? Should I drain the water & scrub the pond as I cant afford a filter right now ?

  • Hi there love your pond.I have a 60 gallon preformed pond for my turtles and I am having horrible algae.I cant afford a filter right now but I do have some water hyacinth I just got could I float the plants in some type of mesh bag ? Would the hyacinth alone do anything to clear up my water until I can get a filter ?All I have in there now is just a water pump to maintain some sort of movement.I was thinking about draining the water scrubbing down the pond and refilling should I do this ? Thnx.

  • This pond is only about 2 feet deep.

  • I have great success putting the plants in the filter tub and usually also add a net to the ponds holding more water hyacinths. This allows me to have plenty of plants to water ratio and keeps the koi from destroying the plant roots and making a mess of things. Also, the koi LOVE to spawn on the netting. I use a seining net from Wal Mart fishing department.

  • @KCvers

How deep is the pond in this video?

  • I used UV filters for a few years, but really couldn't tell too much difference with or without them.

  • I haven't lost any fish to animals in my three water gardens, but lost 5 awesomely large koi that I had placed in our fishing pond. We think foxes that were using our barn as a den for their 6 kits wiped out those fish when the fish were hanging out in the shallow warmer water this spring.

  • very nice pond! :)

  • Very nice pond. Have you had any problems with Raccoon, or Herons trying to get your fish? That is the problem I have and they have cleaned me out several times.

  • have you noticed a big difference when you put the water plants inside the same tub as the filter?

  • Do you think the UV light, is harmful to the pond in any way? I had a UV light, but discontinued using it. The water, was crystal clear, but I felt that something was'nt right with the water.

  • What type of filter do you have now? More plants would be your best bet. Plants use up the nutrients in the water that the algae needs to survive. No nutrition and the algae dies off and disappears. Takes some time to achieve balance. Do not add algae killers or do massive water changes. Let your pond cycle.

  • my 300 gallon pond is turning pretty green, i dont know if i need a 200 gallon filtration system... any help would be awesome

  • that hyacinth is very healthy!

  • great vid!

  • Hello, my fellow American. haha Just wanted to say: Super helpful! I don't care that the hoses and tanks were in plain sight -- your pond is beautiful and truly inspiring. "Green water" is my biggest problem right now, but I am learning how to combat that from you experienced pond keepers out there.;) And your method is a natural approach, which I love. ^_^ I can't wait 'til mine looks that great! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and explain in detail how to get your awesome res

  • what plants are best for the pond??

  • what plants are best for the pond??

  • I use floating water hyacinths suspended in seining nets along the side and up in the filter. If you just float them on the surface, the koi will tear up the dangling roots and make a mess. I also have water lily and lotus planted in pots of egg size rocks,no dirt.

  • what is the plants name that you have in the pump?

  • Water hyacinths

  • great vidio thankes for takeing time to explain in detail

  • how big is your pond?

  • The pond in this video is approximately 1500 gallons. The rectangular pond featured in another video is 4500 gallons. I started with a 250 gallon preformed pond, but it wasn't big enough. Then I added the 1500 gal pond and finally the 4500 gallon one.

  • Try typing tank bung fitting in your search engine and you might learn that there is more than one name for this item. Even our local Rural King store lists them as 'bungs'. :)))

  • nice job the pond is clear and nice.. i like it.. but not all plants are ok to put in filter.. some roots my get stuck on filter pads or lava rocks bags. then you gotta spend more money on buyin pads etc.. other that that.. nice

  • Amazing pond!

  • great video! It was helpful that you explained your set-up. Many videos are just images without any kind of audio. Your's was very well done.

  • i made a pot like yours with water hyacinths in it, but every week or so my pond starts to turn green. what should i do?

  • You need to just let it cycle. Don't drain it and try to get it clear that way. Just give the water hyacinths a few weeks to work their magic.

  • ok thank you. i tried draining it before but it still turned green. ill just leave it alone.

  • I love your accent

  • Accent? What accent? :))

  • lol. She doesn't have an accent. Unless your not from N. America

  • OKAY THEN SHES AMERICAN

  • i wish my pond was like that! filters r 2 expensive

  • The tank filter is homemade. This year I didn't bother with any filter pads inside. Just filled it with water hyacinths and they are doing all the filtering. I could never keep my ponds clear until I learned to have plenty of water hyacinths. They are truly the secret!!!

  • too bad you cant hide some of that including the hoses that go into the pond. I used something like this but it has the waterfall spillway.

  • It is my intention to add a waterfall, but just haven't had the opportunity to work on it. I intend to take this watergarden apart next spring and rebuild the whole thing.
