I love this show! It's truely a timeless classic, I grew up watching it and my eight year old now enjoys it as much as me! This has to be one of my favorite scenes too! :)
Hear what God of Israel YAHUSHUA-YAHUWAH (Son and Father are ONE) saying to our generation by His chosen prophets: Trumpetcallofgodonline. com ; Letter called "Purify Your Faith, and Come to the Father as It is Written": EXCERPT: "Only in the Bible and through these very Letters, of which I have given to My prophet of the end of this age, shall you find Him and know Him."
I didn't grow up in the best of families. It was pretty tragic at times. Mayberry was my imaginary sanctuary. If you look real close you can probably see me peaking through the screen door. :)
Why can't they make shows like this anymore? I use to love getting up and watching these shows. God how mellow it was back then. I miss it so much. Thank you for the memories.
The overall message for me is this. Take a day off! If you are religious, call it the Sabbath if you like. If not, then just have a day. Obviously there are some jobs that need people on Sundays. But still, wouldn't it be nice if, for the most part, the world could just spend one day a week lazing on the front porch, singin' quietly, *with a bottle of pop, eating Aunt Bea's fried chicken & peeling an apple in one cut*
@kerrager Set that time machine for 2012, my friend. America is awake, is as strong and as righteously angry as she's been since 17. Her best days are just around the corner. in 2080, our misty eyed grand kids will be making shows about the "Good old Days" of 2018. And I PROMISE that, 40 years later, the washed up douche bag "stars" of said programs will NOT put on hairpieces and come out for the enemy, as these guys did. Not THIS time.
The only bad message of this clip is that city people are busy and country folk are not. The truth is many rural people are extremely busy with work. Try working a full time job at the same time keeping the farm going. I know country people who have absolutely no free time. It's work work work for them.
@vanmoody I must disagree about the "bad message" part. I grew up in NC in the time frame of the show & what you see is truly how it was. On Sundays streets were rolled up & about the only business you could find open were hotels & gas stations. NC was mostly agricultural then so yes people were busy all the time. Except for Sundays. Late Sunday afternoons after church & a fried chicken supper we sat on the porch & played music, or games, or just listened to the night coming. God do I miss that.
@lochldy I see your point. I was talking more about today's rural people. I've been a rural pastor for 10 yrs and believe me, today they are very busy in the country.
One of the best scenes from the Griffith show. Andy and Barney sang so well together, especially since Andy and Don were both familiar with all the great gospel hymns through their southern upbringings.
The best episode of the Andy Griffith series by far. Things were simple, quiet and many nights were spent on the old front porch. Thanks to whomever posted this one!
I remember laying in my bed and my mom rubbing my cheek and singing this song. She would ask, "What song do you want me to sing?" And almost everytime I would say this song and she would be like " I sang that last night." Well I never cared I loved being lulled to sleep by this song. I bet this is where she got it. ♫ The little brown churh in the vale ♫
One of the best scenes of the entire series. That porch is where many of us just wish we could sit forever. The tenderness of that time is gone but not forgotten. I imagine heaven might be a bit like this.
@maedawg Went to give this a "thumbs up" because I completely agree but slipped up ! So sorry! Someone please give this man a thumbs up to un-do my mistake!
@maedawg me neither... I'm sixteen and i've been watching it since i can't remember and we're trying to collect all of the seasons on dvd. My dad is always talking about how he wishes life would just slow down and be simple, just like Mayberry. Too bad they tore down the filming site... they tore it down for some business park! you'd think it would be like a national monument or something...
@maedawg I choose not to believe that place is truly gone. The love of God is what makes that place so amazing, and every time we show the love of Jesus to others, that place is recreated wherever we are. Make no mistake, Love will win in the end!
I often wondered about this. In some episodes, Barney sings just beautifully. Yet, in others he's presented as being terribly off key.

This song makes me feel warm and loved by my late Mother, oh how I miss her.
I used to cuddle in her arms when I was a little girl, and she would sing to me.
She had the most beautiful voice.
Mmmm mmmm mmmm
I love you Mother.

Too bad Andy didn't put out an album with Don. I would buy it.
Funny how the show tries to make Barney a tone-deaf singer in other episodes. Don is so on here.
