For those that don't know the history, Wimpy started out as a proper waited service type place. Later they expanded to McDonalds style fast food (as was the one I worked at). Sometime during the early 90s (if I recall correctly), Burger King came over and bought up all the fast food places, leaving only the waited places as Wimpys.
@dickson37055 I seem to remember that the company that owned Wimpy went on to buy Burger King, then rebranded most Wimpy bars as Burger Kings, which is a great shame cos the old wimpy quarter pounder was the best burger out there.
The thing I remember about this ad is that I was working at Wimpy at the time and was told that the hamburger(s) in the ad were undercooked to make them look more juicy and so the guy couldn't actually eat it/them and had to spit them out in a bucket. My boss was also an a-hole who later got done for robbing the safe (so I heard).
I do miss the beanburgers and the toasted teacakes. I'll have to pay a visit when I'm back in England this year.
u don't see many about now i remember there being 2 in Cardiff city centre. But When I went to South Africa in 97 there were dozens of them. used to do good burgers
@Feisty1967 Still going... many locations closed due to competition from McDs and BK, but there's still Wimpy up and down the country, they even have a website!
@Strawberry7Lynn Wimpys near me are Croydon, Purley, Crawley and Horsham. The one is Coulsdon closed last year, changed it's name to Valley, but still serves a similar menu.
Shame there are no Wimpys in Northern Ireland. I like Wimpys because of the character with that name in Popeye, the same as I like haddock because of Captain Haddock from Tintin.
They based the whole advert on the American way life its not as if everyone didnt know Wimpy was British. but remember Wimpy's served there burgers on China plates..lol I wonder what became of Mcdonalds.
@tag1989 Hilarious... what a great whit you are... (not)... of course anyone knows wimpy's name came from the character in the Popeye cartoon who ate hamburgers.

Quite a few Wimpys can be found in Southeast London - Woolwich, Bexleyheath, Charlton and Lewisham to name but a few!

My only claim to fame is I dated the cousin of the blonde bird behind the counter. True that is.

@MrInmyopinion Wimpy actually started in America, but was never as successful there as it was in the UK.
FabFM 11 months ago
@FabFM I suppose it was because wimpy was for WIMPS, which explains why it was more successful in the UK.
