it's unfortunate i wasn't alive when name that tune was on...i remember tom kennedy from body language and have always thought he was a great host....i long for the days when nbc featured a mornng block of game shows ilke classic concentartion, sale of the century, wheel of fortune, and scrabble....

Please tell me there's some sarcasm there that I'm missing. Highest rated morning show 11 years running, with strong enough ratings to merit doubling its running time over past 8 seasons? Yeah, nobody's watching Today.
I met Tom Kennedy when I was a contestant on Name That Tune in 1977. I thought that he was super nice, but the true test was when I asked the staff what they thought of him. And they all said how much they loved him. Truly a nice guy! Also, Ralph Edwards and Judy Barlowe (the contestant coordinator) were super nice, too! A wonderful experience for me (and I did win $600.00).
Thank you, Adam, for posting this Today retrospect. The day this aired, April 4th, my condo was engulfed in flames. Though I set the VCR to tape that day, I never was able to watch it. Hope you have a Merry Christmas, or whatever holiday you celebrate!
Around that time Phil Gurin commissioned a revival for Name That Tune but it did not sell.

I wonder why there was no mention of Dennis James hosting the daytime version of the 1974 edition?
tvtimetravel 2 years ago
Because it's about Tom.

Is it just me, or is the clip at 2:49 from the infamous unaired episode?

It's just you.

Thought so, especially when Kathie showed up in a later clip from the same.
Think she was the only sane one, refusing to do the "Holiday Tape"? :-)

Tom Kennedy still sounds good in 2002! He had a really commanding voice.

If NBC would bother to do some advertising that they are airing a 'game show' week on Today, someone might actually watch the Today show for once.

All of the Tom Kennedy syndicated episodes exist (1974-81). Unfortunately, those episodes can't be shown due to certain music clearances.

Got any of the other episodes from this week?
