Hey Nick - so glad to find the piece you did on Lee for the Centennial!! Lee took Betty to Idaho in 2010 - where I joined them. I'm sorry Betty's family wouldn't cooperate with you - because Betty's experience in Pearl Harbor, with Amelia Earhart and flying fighters in WWII is owned by a very small group of women. I'm happy this got done! The WAFS seem to get excluded - they were the first women of 28 - so the true number of WASP is 1,102.
"25,000 applied, 1,800 were accepted and 1,000 graduated". They had standards in those days. It was tough, but it was better than what we have now, in my opinion.
