When I was a little kid I used to think the past was in black and white since all the movies and shows were like that, and that somehow color was a recent invention. Oh the innocence...
@TheGrinninMan It's funny you say that. There was a girl in my highschool who still believed the past was b&w. At 14 years old. In her case it was just stupidity, and not innocence lol
I bought this album (Dreamtime Return) when I was 17 (this was in 1989). What it did to my young impressionable mind then was simply mind-expanding in the best possible way imaginable.
One of the greatest compositions of the last two decades of the 20th century.
Steve's music is truly otherworldly and mesmerizing. This is an extremely depressing, but hauntingly beautiful song. You feel so much sorrow and emptiness, but also a small sense of hope. I especially like the collaborations he does with Robert Rich as well. Great music!
you know, I actually have this album on CD. I have several of steve's albums. Words cannot describe the emotions that well up when i listen to his music. Its like I remember all the bad things that have happened in my life, but at the same time I am reminded of all the good things that have happened as well. I cry for the sadness, then laugh with joy.
Hah, that's so funny! Steve is a genius, so is Michael Whalen, but I'd have to say that the Master is Jon Jenkins, whose music is unparalleled by any other artist.
Substrata is one of my fave albums and something i've tripped to a lot, some of those times with Transformers (the original 1980's animated movie) on the TV. syncs up pretty interestingly in places.
Can't believe I just found this. I've been missing out.

suprising that Roach never really did more works with the piano involved, especially based upon the beauty of this track.

Truth, in its purest form can be considered the aristocracy of spirituality and therefore must be sought in all dimensions.

"aristocracy of spirituality" - I like that! It ties both ends together quite beautifully.

Deep...thought provoking...sinister...subtle and powerful all at once. This is Steve Roach...with his usual talent to turn music into something else.
