I don't think it's just the low quality sounds but the orchestration just sounds poor and uninteresting. The piece doesn't start or go anywhere melodically. What I'm guessing as the intended melody notes are just poor choice also. If you wrote any dynamics in the score then you didn't bother to edit the MIDI to show it, but the orchestration doesn't seem like it gives much room for dynamic changes anywhere. Some decent ideas, but let down by poor sense of melody and orchestration skills.
