Actually, a long time ago, in high school I was playing drums during a music lesson.

It was an old shitty kit from the beginning of time, which had never been tuned, and the floor tom sounded absolutely awful(even more so that the other parts of the kit), so a chucked my wallet on it to get a better tone. And it worked.

No offense, but I've never met a REAL conguero play with a paper. I've seen ONE conguero (and only because he was old and had arthritis) play with a thick stick in one hand. Other than that, real congueros get various sounds through different hand positionings and strike points.

1. Open Tone

2. Muffled Tone

3. Bass (Palm) Tone

4. Closed Slap (with both hands pressing)

5. Closed Slap (individual hands)

6. Open Slap

7. Finger Open Tone

8. Heel/Toe Sounds

Combination of these.

lI got a gig last night. In the second set I realized that I forgot my LP paper tuner. I had to play the song without it. The groove was not the same at all. I think that most people in the audience new that the song should of been played with a paper tuner because the were laughing at me. What should I do next time ?
