I find it a bit odd that your theatre is complete with lowering trusses, Source 4 PAR's and still only uses a ETC Express console. And the patch is just a little more complicated than you explained it. Also, saying that making the actors visible and allowing them to see where they are going is over simplifying lighting design way too much. Also Bulbs go in Lamps and Lamps go in fixtures, that is something that is basic, calling it a bulb is just stupid even if you are trying to be simple.
@Computerleet Just so you're aware: though the ETC Express is a bit old, entering the market almost 20 years ago now, it is still one of the best boards for conventionals. There are many professional regional stages that still use it, and it is certainly one of, if not the best, console to begin an understanding of computerized lighting control.
@Computerleet Also, I'm having trouble understanding your tone here. You seem to know at least a moderate amount of statistics regarding lighting and the industry, so it really surprises me that you don't know this. People as closed minded and rude as you are typically run out of the industry as soon as people figure out how they really are. smj0724 clearly explained that this was for people who know nothing of lighting. while the lamp mix up is kind of a peeve for us, there's no need to be rude
@MegaPascal31 he's teaching the people who know next to nothing about lighting, such as many (not all) actors. Also, you lost your potential credibility on the topic when you post things like this before reading them. Try punctuation or sentence structure next time, it will greatly improve people's perception of you...unless you're still a pompous, lonely individual; if that's the case, then yeah, you're kind of on your own.
@toast94shadow actually they are DIMMER numbers, which are then assigned using PATCH to channel numbers, which are then assigned to submasters.... so those yellow numbers are DIMMER NUMBERS and my guess says that they connect to a SENSOR rack which is run using a (usually) CEM+ computer, which driver both ETCLink and ETCNet.
@toast94shadow actually on a ETC express 24/48, it can be either a channel or a sub. it all depends on the setup menu. I believe it's [setup] [1] [enter] [1][5] and here you can select the options of 1. two scene, 2. one scene without subs, or 3. one scene with subs. it really depends. the option doesn't exist on the 48/96 or the 72/144 because they have a separate row at the bottom for subs.
I know that, but I had to dumb it down for people who didn't know what they were doing. This was just supposed to touch on the (very) basics of lighting in my High School.
Not bad a bit random a bit telecomercial the only advise is you dont touch at all on where to hang the inst. nor doyou explain the many connectors as well as you dont touch on the make and manufacturer of your console hence different consoles can and do different things
This video was designed as a brief overview of how to do the lighting in my High School when I graduated, which is why I don't mention the console type. Thanks for the feedback!
Someone had been holding a halogen lamp for one of our 16 FOH spotlights, and we didn't know this, so when we installed the lamp and tested the light we had a little camp fire ^^' Seeing as the bulbs for our lights get up to about 800 degrees in a matter of seconds.
WTF!!!! You can Just patch a dimmer to channel then just hit record to a sub

You should do one on programming Cues.
GainesWorthy 3 years ago
if you go tto your consoles site or just type it in the you tube search there usually a factory rep that explains things for you
rivtoolfan 2 years ago
Keystrokes in order for programing cues on ETC Expression series software....
" Record, Cue #, Enter"
ROSSTBLITZ 2 years ago
I know how to do it, it's part of my job, but for those who don't understand how to.
And obviously, its just following common sense, in order.
