Subbed! And can you send me some info on what is needed for rebel equipment? I'm relatively new to reenacting and I'm part of a reenacting group that reenacts both sides, but mainly Confederate. We do artillery at the moment, but we're getting a cavalry soon. So depending on how long it takes to train my horse, I'll be doing both really.
@basilone12 only for some thing...i would recomend guns swords haversack stuffers other small things. THATS NOT canteens blankets haversacks knapsacks ect. if your still growing like me i highly recomend it if your not growing any more save up and invest in wambaugh white and co or nj sekela. THEIR AUTHENTIC AND DONT FARB THIER UNIFORMS...I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND BUY FROM THE REGIMENTAL QUARTERMASTER UNDER THIER CAMPAINER GEAR SECTION.
For Confederate items I use Richmond Depot's uniforms and gear, they are pretty good and i've had them for years. For leathers i use Missouri Boot and Shoe, they are great at their jobs and the leathers are very sturdy. Hope you reenactors who are more towards the south can use that info. But as you go along learn how to make your own uniforms, it's cheaper and you get the satisfaction of wearing the kit you made out in the field.
ok first and formost something that every one gets wrong and I'm impressed that you got it MOSTLY right. The vest... no it wasn't a matter of issue (In other words the soldiers were not issued it) and I agree with you not to get one because honestly theres very little evidence to show that the soldiers ever really baught them or wore them. The one part where you're wrong is when you called it contract. (Contract meaning only military persons could buy them) not true any one could.
@john4knecht Secondly I notice you doing alot of telling people "ONLY." Ok I've been in the hobby for longer then you've been alive (about 25 years over all) and while I haven't been a soldier that entire time (Only about 18 years of it have I been a soldier) and I've seen Wambaughs stuff, it's nice stuff don't get me wrong. But the prices are inflated, and theres the common misconception that's perpetuated that any thing Skullykill Arsenal issued was hand sew. Fact is It was an army depot
@john4knecht Items went there from contract firms that made the garments. Some were hand sewn, some were machine sewn, some were a combination of both, heck some of the sack coats issued from them were even hand sewn. Also you should make the distinction to only by threw Wambaugh and white if you want to be an Infantrymen, with a PROGRESSIVE uniform. He makes absolutely zero Artillery or Cavalry uniform parts, and when I've emailed him about it I have gotten no responce. So W&W is not the endall
@97yankeeboy thats no excuse to not respond. He should have sent me back an email that said plainly "I'm sorry I'm not taking custom orders at this time... besides that I wasn't asking it as a custom thing. I was asking him if he was GOING to make Artillery and Cavalry stuff as part of his normal line.
