  • If we could take the instrumentation of this version and the vocals of the Jacksons' version...heaven.

  • This is WeLL funky!!!

  • Obviously Michael 's voice gave this extra element it needed. Mick Jackson himself admitted that although his companion had given 100%, it was this 2% more that Jacksons gave to make it fly...

  • They were both hits at the same time, here in the UK, at least ... circa 1978. IIRC, The Jacksons version was the bigger hit of the two, for obvious reasons.

  • i like the jacksons cover

  • This dude can sing, but c'mon, now; MJJ & Co. helped this song out . . . A LOT. Went from corny to cool / funky to funkyfresh. Shame this guy didn't get the proper credit, but Thank God for The Jacksons LOL.

  • Did you know this guy wrote Blame it on the Boogie

Good old Mick Jackson for writing one of the greatest disco songs and he comes from north yorkshire i think

    well done

  • hup hup hup...want to dance!!

  • I love the Jacksons version but I really like this one too

  • I Dont Like This Version ¬¬

  • Mick Jackson Great!

  • Damn Niggers took er jerbs!!!

  • @evilyakko Fuck you!!!!!!!!

  • @StubbyCub LMAO

  • The Big Fun version was the best one

  • Shame the composer didn't receive the royalties he deserved for writing such a classic. Personally, I blame it on the boogie!

  • Jackson 5 are much better than this! They put so much rythm in the song!. :)

  • Imagine this guy thin as a pin with a single glove on his leftie, dancing like a God; floating around the scene and grabbing his crotch!!!

Not? I think this original version was really groovy! It´s ALWAYS easier to do a remake (not intending to dis Michael Jacksons talents though).

  • the jacksons are better !!! :)

  • this is the guy who wrote it

  • I can just see them playing this version on "HEE-HAW".

  • There's British as well/ I was just watching a docu on them that's why I'm here.

  • @kezadrone Watching the same thing. There is no doubt in my mind that THIS version would never have made a star of the original act BUT the Jacksons cover most certainly made these very talented writers a big wad of cash. Dream gig.

  • @narcoman2 Hahah. You saw it on More 4. :) but the jam session on the show was a tad red face making. :s.

  • @kezadrone oh yes!!! And Leo Sayer!!! Bang on!

  • Respond to this video... It's kind of Leo Sayer as well .

  • :D what is it? the jackson's have best version

  • michael jackson best he suck

  • Michael Jackson sang it better!

  • This is brilliant but the Jacksons outfunked it!

So in a sense, a MICHAEL Jackson did write this :), If we're gonna get technical.

  • @ Pixelrow

I just met mick today, he isn't unhappy. He's one of the happiest guys I know. And I'm not a real fan of blame it on the boogie, but I think it's better than the Jacksons' version.

  • Who the fuck dislikes this?! Just asking!

  • This is GREAT! As good as The Jacksons', but for different reasons!

  • Wikipedia says:

"Mick Jackson himself in 2003 said of the Jacksons' version of "Blame It on the Boogie": "[the original] version had 100% of our heart and soul in it but the Jacksons' version had the magic extra 2% that made it incredible."[2]"

  • theres another version in spanish with different lyrics by Luis Miguel same beat and everything so theres like three versions haha

  • From all the interviews I have seen of the original Michael (Mick) there is no hint of anger and or malice from him. Also the Jacksons did not steal it from him it was brought stateside from a tape secured by management of the Jacksons and brought to them. The only thing that bothers Mick is that he did not get the royalties as some have stated here. Other than that why not enjoy them both. I do!

  • @MrSingOne I'm not understanding why he wouldn't get the royalties? Publishing alone on this track would be worth millions. He didn't get the RECORDING royalties (and wouldn't deserve them) but the writing is worth more in sync .....

  • i prefer this version to the jacksons one, or any other for that matter.

  • DJ at the local youth club, I bought this on release & it was out before the Jacksons covered it, I remember the story of when Mick Jackson was on TOTP's to sing "Weekend", the follow up to this & the Jacksons we're on the same show singing "Blame It On The Boogie", Mick scowled at them in the corridor for stealing his thunder & the Jacksons bowed their heads in embarrassment....Nick00Soul

  • @Nick00Soul - a) jacksons made this song famous. b) if mick was so unhappy why did he give them the song.

PS mick jackson co-wrote it. He probably made more in royalties from this than his whole career.

  • @pixelrow Mick did not give them the song. Do a little research, the Jackson's practically stole it from Mick.

And no, he didn't o-write it. He wrote the song period.

  • @1Adr1an6 - how did the Jacksons steal the song? And yes Mick did co-write the song. You do a little research as you are factually totally inaccurate.

Mick wrote the song to sell - but it was sold in such a way that was unfair to him. But the jacksons did not have a hand at all in that. How could they? Mick later tried to sue (not the jacksons but the company who bought the rights off him) but failed.

In 2003 even Mick jack admitted the Jacksons were better.

  • @1Adr1an6

THE FACTS: Mick Jackson wrote the song together with his brother Dave, E. Krohn and H. Kampschroer. It was recorded in Munich/Germany. The boss of the record company and publisher Peter Kirsten (Global) took the tape to MIDEM (music-fare) to look for international partners, sold the re-recording rights to the manager of "The Jacksons", and their version, became a big hit. Mick Jackson released his version parallel. The writers still keep all the copyright and are very happy about it!

  • I love both of these. And people you need to get you're facts straight, as much as I love the Jacksons-Mick made the original. Techniqually, Mick's version is the original. So before you go saying the Jackson's "gave" permission to "cover it", remember where it actually came from. Dumb fucks.

  • Mick wrote the song, but the Jacksons did the original version, then Mick covers their version of the song on his album.

  • i never heard this version of the song b4, it's quite good tbh, btw there are 2 other versions of this song as well, the jacksons version and the big fun version, i prefer the jacksons version to both of them but the big fun version sounds good as well and so does the mick jackson version tbh :)

  • @COOLPRO195 What about the Tina Charles version? That makes 3.

  • @wingtipvortex yh, so that makes 4 versions all 2gether :)

  • Awesome song

  • Mick Jackson wrote it and you can't take that away from him.

The Jackson's turned it into one of the best disco records ever.

It's a pity Mick wasn't paid his share.

  • as I recall both Mick Jackson's version and the Jackson 5's version of this song charted at the same time (Im sure somebody will correct me!) For me personally I like both versions but if you had to push me hard I would say I like this one by Mick rather than Michael. besides for a white guy this was easier to dance to LOL

  • @TigerGuy13 yer and both met and stayed in the same hotel !! mick's version.. well he wrote it.. SO that holds more weight for me.

  • Either way you look at it, The Jacksons version is better.

  • this song was relesed along with the jacksons version the same week on the same programme top of the pops both reached top 10

  • he never got the royalties for this song it was in my local paper he is from where i live

  • Cool version.

More close to Stevie Wonder than the Jacksons.

  • @souzabluesplayer He'd probably be glad to hear that--apparently, he had hoped to sell the song to Stevie Wonder.

  • blame it o the publicist

  • Well, there you go, I'm 38 and never knew this was the original writer of this song. Both good.

  • this version is way inferior. i mean, even mick jackson recognized it, that the jackson five version was a lot better. this guys sings too low, because there are parts that sound odd ...like for instance, the end of the sentence " but somehow it has drugged me" ...

  • The jackson 5 really did a great job with this song. However I'm feeling this version too. Well, thats just how the music business is. So many artist take from other artist, all the time. Such as Little Richard's music, which was stolen from hm. Dont blame it on sunshine, dont blame it on the moonlight, dont blame it on the good times, blame it on the boogie.

  • WOW I LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY THIS A NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE VERSION OG 4 SHO! AND YES THEM JACKSON BROTHAZ DID A NICE ASS COVER OF IT both versions have their OWN UNIQUENESS U CAN NOT!! COMPARE

  • pffff not good !!!!

  • so you're saying you'r correct and I'm wrong, how do you work that out then, I don't care about your opinion I heard him on a radio interview 1 month ago saying he wasn't ripped off, you stick with your TV programme and I'll believe the story first hand from an interview I actually heard him give on radio.

  • The chorus from this song is a direct rip off of the song "You Could Have Been a Lady" by Hot Chocolate. I invite anyone to compare the two and tell me they are different.

  • Guys just to clear this up, he was on TV the other week. MICK Jackson sold this song to The Jacksons and now he REALLY regrets and is a very jealous person but thank god he did! The Jacksons made this song EPIC!

  • @grainvillebambam Mick Jackson never sold this song to the jacksons! The jacksons do not and never have owned the publishing of this song! This is also the better version!

  • @grainvillebambam Oh and he's not jealous. He may have never made a penny from this classic, but he wrote plenty of TV and movie soundtracks and is a millionaire!

  • @FabFM he was in a radio interview I heard it with my own ears and they asked him if he was ripped off and he said no he got all the royalties he was entitled to, it was just rumours that he was ripped off.

  • @jethropike1964 As opposed to a TV interview where I heard him and saw him say he was ripped off? Come on...

  • @jethropike1964 Strange he would say that and then on TV interview say he was ripped off :S I havent heard or seen either the radio or TV interview so I dunno whats wrong or right.

  • Wow, I never would have guessed that this is where the song came from. And, if that's not enough, this guy happens to be named "Mick Jackson". Hmmm... In life, often times, the truth is stranger than fiction. You couldn't make this stuff up if u tried. It's too weird.

  • Mick Jackson was on the radio today, he said he was delighted that the Jackson's recorded his song and he got every penny owed to him in royalties, so everyone was happy with the deal all round. don't forget both versions got in the charts so it was double the royalties.

  • @jethropike1964 I don't buy that. This year there was a channel 4 documentary called "the other michael jackson" about mick and he clearly stated he never made a penny from this song!

  • This mick jackson wrote this song The Jacksons had a big hit with it prefer this any time weekend was good too . Thanks for finding it

  • wow this is the very first time I ever heard this one and probably the Last time. THE JACKSONS took this song and Breathed complete LIFE into this track. this version here has absolutely no vibe or feel at all, its so empty and weak!!! THE JACKSONS MADE THIS SONG THEIR OWN!!!!! I like Mick's WEEKEND though!!!

  • I bought this record when it first come out, as good as the Jackson's where this is still the best version, although as much as I like this record still prefer Weekend

  • Search on 4od for a documentary called 'The Other Michael Jackson' It explains the true story behind this song..

  • Comment removed

  • the documentary was called "The Other Michael Jackson" aired on channel 4 earlier this year. go look up on wiki, you'll see he did a few interviews about it etc.

  • Brown!

  • Cool!

  • Jackson 5 Rocked This Song...

  • Another example of Michael Jackson's vocal strength turning a good song into a GREAT song. He did it with "Who's Lovin You", "With A Child's Heart", "Never Can Say Goodbye", "Ain't No Sunshine", etc. Its nice that Mick Jackson wrote it but Mike Jackson sounds alot better singing it.

  • First time I've ever heard this..good stuff!!

  • This is the best version,I don't care how young MJ was :)

  • Wow,. I can't believe the I see people on here arguing that the Jacksons "stole" this song. It is common knowledge that this guy wrote this song. Trust me, he was paid for it. Nobody "stole" anything. His name is listed as a writer for the song.

  • @Ronlg1 The Jacksons didn't steal it but Mick Jackson hasn't seen a penny. His publicist gave the tape over to one of The Jacksons' people. It took place without Mick Jackson's consent. He's been credited but hasn't seen any money in royalties. I think he was given an initial fee. He doesn't dwell on the past and has moved on though

  • @xparox well thank goodness they got that track because they really make this track much better!!!! that is too bad about the way that happened with the royalties but who said that the music industry is fair? Never was and never will be fair.

  • @Ronlg1 he is credited , but doesn't get any royalties.. go watch the programme they made about it.. his manager sold the "rights" to it.. basically buying it out so he couldn't get FULL royalties.

  • @Ronlg1 dont count on it. he couldnt fund the court case so took a settlement for much less than he was owed

  • Mike's version is better!

  • this version is so much better, shame mick didnt get the money he should have

  • have to say this is better than MJ's verson

  • amazing. i always thought it was michael jackson of the jackson five that wrote this song. this guy is from yorkshire uk. woot for northerners

  • People, why argue about it. I know this much, I'm sure MICK JACKSON is happy as hell that THE JACKSONS made this song! It's called "ROYALTIES"!!!!

  • @mediaagent

actually mick got very very few royalties off this, micheal jacksons people basically stole this song off him.

  • @mediaagent wrong.. his manager sold the rights to it behind his back.. he gets **** all money from it!!! .. "media agent" right.. learn the facts of the story before making such comments.. he gets no writers royalties, prs etc. there was a programme made about it also.. perhaps go watch that.

  • @cosine303 not manager-publisher, thts what publishers do.

  • @cosine303 No need to get funky, I was just saying that due to the comments, I'm sure that he was happy he got the royalties, ok, so he doesn't have them. Still no need for people to get pissed at the Jacksons, if Mick's manager sold it ( above mentioned poster was so happy to note), that's on his manager...

And if you want to get nasty, why don't you tell me the name of the programme? I will be glad to watch it. No, instead you decide to be a condesending snipe.

  • @mediaagent nasty ? not really a snipe.. just from HIS point of view.. if your not in the UK you might not be able to watch it.. google "The Other Michael Jackson" the first link should be a link to channel4 (a UK tv station)

  • @mediaagent try /watch?v=QQsP5Ex-WvY on here, it might work where you are.. its the documentary about it.

  • @mediaagent Mick Jackson never made a penny off "blame it on the boogie" the pulishing company ripped him off!

  • The way I hear it he never received any royalties from the Jackson 5 version. But he can sit back happy in the knowledge that he has written on of the finest disco hits of all time. No one can take that away!!

  • @funkykeys71 If he didn't receive any royalties, then he needed to talk to his manager or his publishing company. He was given song writing credit on the album. So The Jackson's never tried to rip him off or discredit him.

  • @megavega4 actually all the song says is m jackson coving it up to make people thing micheal was the real writer

how ever it wasnt the jacksons faults it was a deal between there farther and micks manager

  • @mediaagent there was a programme on it he got nothing from royalties his producer sold his rights to the jacksons father and took everything mick never recieved a single penny from the deal

  • @mediaagent ALL RIGHT, I was making a point that perhaps the guy was HAPPY because he got ROYALTIES.... I now know a that he never got the royalities, ok, so his manager/publisher sold it to the Jacksons, that's on his manager/publisher. I hope the guy was not his manager anymore after this situation.

No need 2 get nasty abt the statement. How u read the comment is on u, I just said that the guy would be happy if he got money. The way some of you act, you would think you got ripped off.

  • @mediaagent Mick didn't get any royalties from this, he signed a publishing contract when he had written it and the publishing company got all the rights to the song, then they sold them to Joe Jackson. Mick took them to court and failed to sue as he could not afford legal fees.

  • @mediaagent and his wallet is happy too i bet

  • @mediaagent you are wrong about this. Get your facts before you make a comment like that, watch the documentary that would enlighten you a bit. Same for everyone that liked your comment. meeeeeeeeh

  • @redwingowls And you need to keep reading before you come out your mouth. My statement was made over 8 months ago, the question answered over a month ago within 3 posts. The fact that I had to even find this in my mailbox is a major WTF moment. You try to have an enlightened evening. *smh at this foolishness*

  • That extra 2%'s name is Michael Jackson :D

  • The Jacksons may have not written Blame it on the boogie but they were still genious's because they wrote plenty of other great songs when they were young like Can you feel it,shake your body (down to the ground), This place hotel,Lovely one and plenty of other hit songs.

  • jackson 5 version better!

  • This is the original version.

    Mick Jackson wrote it.

His producer did some sort of deal with the Jackson 5.

  • Mick Jackson himself said, "[the original] version had 100% of our heart and soul in it but the Jacksons' version had the magic extra 2% that made it incredible." So even he knows that the Jacksons' version was a little better.

  • He's a distant relative of mine. My dads mums cousin.

  • There's nothing wrong with this version. It's a GREAT song!

  • Love your work Mick, Funky shit man, no wonder Michael picked it up.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • This is cool. I put this on my MJ play list so other can hear it too. Some people who like songs also like to know where it came from/history and they appreciate it more.

    Thank for this video Razrname.

  • i still think michael jackson's people wrote this song, he mentions frisco which is san franisco, he's english why would he mention it?

  • @JoshRobertson142 "We spent the night in Frisco, in every kind of disco...". Probably because 'Frisco rhymes with disco. I'm glad that Mick and his collaborator(s) wrote the song, that Mick's publisher sold the rights to the song to Joe Jackson and the Jacksons recorded it for their album "Destiny". I suspect that Mick was influenced by Motown. His vocal sounds like he likes Stevie Wonder a bit (except that he can't lose his British accented "booogie"), the horns and rhythm are Stevie-ish too.

  • @JoshRobertson142

    San francisco is spanish. so?

  • @JoshRobertson142 can't a person travel? Geesh! LOL!

  • @JoshRobertson142 nah they didnt the jackson 5 just did a better version lol

watch "The other Michael Jackson" on 4od it explains it.

  • @seasleepingmoonlight

micks version is better, he wrote it so it's better

  • @seasleepingmoonlight Making your own version without paying royalties is called "STEALING". There is no other way around it (and don't start with me about artistic interpretation or in simple english= better version.

  • @ryk1265 woah ok sorry I seam to have offended loads of people I like both versions, maybe I worded it wrong, the jacksons made the more well known version lets say. I was just telling someone how this is the original.

  • I like the other so much better.

  • I like the Jacksons version better, sorry.

  • OK I KNOW MICK JACKSON MADE THIS VERSION BUT I THINK THE JACKSONS MADE IT REALLY FAMOUS! SRRY TO BUST YA BUBBLE!

  • Hes not made any where near the money he should have made.. shame..

  • Quality!!

  • I think I like this version just as much as the Jacksons. Especially the adlibs at the end. The song is great in general.

  • ich kenn mick jackson persöhlich der kann sau gut singen und sam der sohn auch

  • @Juergen357 do you have any contact with Dave, Mick's brother? I also knew them well in the early '80s in Paderborn when Sam was only 1- 3! I want to get hold of Dave having lost touch many years ago... Robbie

  • In my humble opinion Mick's original version is much better than the Jackson 5 one. But I doubt that Mick has anything against that the song was made in to a world wide mega hit by them. He is probably still living well from that and laughing all the way to the bank. I had exactly this version with the same sleeve back in the day. I thought it was special because of the "especial discotecas" but probably it was on all of the singles. I wonder how many he sold of it.

  • @Sextietta I only found out a few hours ago that this was the original!!! It was released a week before the Jackson's version & both were in the charts at the same time. I watched this on a documedntary you can access on channel 4 on demand.

This artist wrote the song & did NOT make much from it!! He waited years & then had to go to court & settled for an out of court payment as he couldn't afford the legal bills.

Please watch it, it opened my eyes.

  • This dude probably got sooo much money for this when MJ made it a hit so im sure he didnt cry over it lol!

  • i didnt find out that Mick wrote this til it was on telly and he was interviewed. I rather like this version. :)

  • Well the big record company and advertising got us AGAIN. Never knew this version existed. BUT on the record credits it does say written by M.Jackson. Who knew there was another? I guess that's why Micheal "Thriller" Jackson songs are credited M.J.Jackson Thanks for the video. learned something new.

  • shut up with he disputes a song is a song its about feeling good not about who sang what which version is better just enjoy the damn song! sheesh!

  • Never knew that Michael Jackson didn't write this song, but I am glad that he covered it, though. One of my favorites by MJ. Still, this is a groovy song. Is rather laid back, but groovy none-the-lesser:)

  • your acceptance of theft is acknowleged, however I fail to see the justification in giving this track to a bunch of kids who made a hit out of this record and then disposing of the writer in the corporate world . I think there is a case to be answered and if the issue brings more issues of stolen music so much the better.

  • Hey, I watched a documentary on this issue just last night on Channel 4. I had no idea this was not a song written by the Jacksons. On the Jacksons album, the writing credit says "M. Jackson", so you would never guess it was somebody else entirely.

    AMAZING!

  • this is better than the jackson 5 version. the jacksons one is more polished but this one just seems more authentic somehow. :)

  • i like it, but i prefare the jacksons version.

everything they touch turns to gold.

    props to the writer though...

  • @djlaze1972 ABSOLUTELY AGREE 100%

  • iI like the Jackson 35version better

  • Look, black people had to put up with having their songs stolen for YEARS! Helloo..look at ELVIS! One time it happens to a white guy and he has his own documentry about it? Anyway, nobody would even care about this version today if it wasn't for the Jacksons!

  • who cares?

  • I think its hard to pick between the two versions as they both have their own unique merits. It was nice to see in the recent TV documentary on Mick that he is now happy and healthy, living in a beautiful old farmhouse with its own state of the art recording studio and making a good living from doing what he loves. His lack of bitterness was truly heartwarming.

  • @patbassbyrne YEAH, I watched that documentary on Channel 4+1 (FREEVIEW) last night.

  • @IkeDyson where is this channel everyone keeps talking about ......? can't someone just post the video here from the documentary?

  • Lol @ Far superior....lol...lol

  • This song appears to have been given by the music industry to any one with a bigger profile than Mick and his band who actually wrote it working the east coast.

    That`s Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington.

It was theft. Mick wrote the song and all the royalties go elsewhere, and we know where.

  • @1andonlychellexxx so true

same thieving helped the jews gain control of american media too

  • @1andonlychellexxx

referencing Elvis like that is dumb, everyone paints him a racist and a thief of black music. obvious bullshit but even if he had stolen music (despite covering and crediting the original artists and not all of whom were black artists) the greater good he did for black artists in the 1950s far outways any of the crap people blame him for.

The story surrounding this song WAS a criminal bit of stealing and rights igonoring but neither mick or the jacksons were to blame.

  • @SouthWestStuntMen Referening elvis like that is my choice...

I chose Elvis as he is the most famous example! He ndid no greater good for black artists/music, he did well for himself.

  • to shock every1 on here this song was first gave to tina charles in 1976 but it never saw the light of day for some reason

  • i really thought it was his

  • supermjrock hi just a little note this song was first recorded by 70s tina charles in 1976 but for some strange reason never saw the light of day

  • Respect to Mick Jackson for writing this song. One of my all time favourites.

  • far superior - I've been searching for this for years, thanks for posting

  • Always good to hear alternative versions, this one does funk. How funny he's called MJ too.

  • I am a little bias in this debate, I am a Yorkshire Man like Mick and if a product like a song generates a revenue, as a song writer you would expect to benefit from that product.

i love Micks version of the song, what is wrong with the music industry is that a song writer can be ripped off by a bigger organisation, CBS ripped Mick off not the Jacksons, the Jacksons were guilty of letting the theft happen.

Lets have a new Mick Jackson DVD we can all enjoy,

  • Mick is one of historys forgotten artists
