You sound great to me. I have a question: you could have played the same bass line picking on open strings instead of pressing the 5th fret. Is there a reason for that? Please bear with me as I am an apprentice, and I try to do things in the simplest possible way...
@acfiorentina Yes, you can not control the string vibration as well, and you are limited by the nut, so that playing in one position becomes somewhat less "logical".
@RareAirSupply Hello. Thank you for you reply, but I am such a beginner that I have no idea of what "controlling the string vibration" is. And I don't know what "being limited by the nut" means... I tried to play the same line picking on open strings, and it seemed a lot simpler to me... :-(
@acfiorentina Maybe I can add some explanation to RareAirSupplys answer: playing on the 5th fret has the advantage of being able to mute strings more easily with your left hand (just by lifting your finger) and you can go a bit lower when ever you want/need to. When you play on open strings, you can only go up. Playing open may be a bit more easy (and sometimes sound better), but in my experience using the other way can be more flexible.
@TheBlueMountainSky Hello there. Thank you for the detailed explanation. What you say makes sense to me. So it's a trade off between simplicity and sound control... Wonder if you could also explain what "being limited by the nut" means. Thanks again.
You have an emotionless face when you're playing. Same here unless something cracks me up on stage. It's not possible for me to pull off a sincere looking smile because it comes from the eyes not the lips.
Try to teach yourself to play without resting your thumb on the mic.. Try to find a relaxng "hovering" position. If you constrain yourself by locking your thumb like that you will restrict movement of the hand. Nice rocking by the way!
@ViXoN2 Man i had the same problem and my hand kept cramping up bad. I starting practicing with my hand floating over the strings and I can play much better with no cramping!!!
Tanya, there are a lot of guys here that talk a lot. I like you let your playing talk for you. Your easy to learn from and thanks for whole tracks. wish my daughters could play this well!
very good ! my bass player doesnt like santana , ???? my last band played four song"s by him ! anyway nice lick"s , right on time , les claypool; stue hamm , stanly clark , billy sheehan , would all agree ! ya need to get your band out there with you , or ? start a band ? anyway good luck , and have fun , thats what it"s all about ! the money will come later ! if your ever in chicago , look me up we"ll do some jammin ,or just to chat about jammin , i love my music , johnygit@yahoo.com ,
almost two years after being uploaded... do you still accept comments? Two things you should concentrate on: the curving of the fingers on your left hand, for once, and keeping a perfect rhythm. For the first thing, it might help you to keep your hand at a slight angle to the strings, not perpendicular. Come towards the body with the tips of your fingers and you'll find the position more relaxed. Second: concentrate mostly on the right hand, the left hand will follow, but be exactly on time!
I really liked your Smooth Operator vid, but this is a way repetitive and not very interesting bass part in my opinion. I'm just curious why you chose it.
I prefer the Fender Bass, but after listening to U, U made that giutar sound very, very good.
Today started out as a not to good of a day, but after listening to your fine talented playin, Made my day! thank U. We need more Inner music people like U to make this world a better place.
Nice track! In the intro: Make the resolution of the slide to the D note a bit smoother, then do the root-5th-octave riffs with more fingers. I use my pinkie finger a lot on this song, have for years. Keep it groovy, you're doing great!
I really enjoyed your videos, if I could send some to the playbacks I train, I would be honored! I live in Brazil, I am an evangelical church in bass.
Really good playing but you need to relax your left hand a lot more...all your inactive fingers are sticking up in the air!!! Relax girl and you'll suddenly become the amazing player you should be!!!
So far, 100,000+ visits. You have helped a lot of people. I hope you give your students a smile.. every once in a while.. ;) when you want to, of course. You never know someone until you walk a mile in their moccasins.. We appreciate your great playing. Really, only 2 years?
@Kierstinjade123 nah haha just telling u that probably less than one percent of youtube channels will actually take the time to make and send you tabs. just look em up on google. its as easy as that
It's sometimes difficult to have a finger-per-fret hand position, especially if you have small hands. I think she does very well, ok the bass line is 'simple', but the fact she keeps it going without her concentration wandering can only be good. She could join my band if we didn't already have a bass player...me! :o) Cool, thanks for the video!
Hey not bad...you have some feel and you are training your ear.
Technically, if you try to relax your hand more and allow for your fingers to lay on the strings you will be able to tackle some better stuff later. I use one finger per fret for a 4 fret spread.
@beefnochicken I agree, it's an easy bass line. You have to keep your fingers closer to the fretboard, you raise them too much so you get tired faster. Try to keep all fingers as a single block and only slide your hand on the board, don't bend your fingers as a guitarist. Otherwise you've got the rythme, well played anyway!
ty for showing i could never fig the walk on this and cant stand tab is this d a and g fill if i seen this right i have full in studio with guitar and bass i love it you are all some
Tanja : technically (rhythm and notes) this extremely well done for a beginner, it's already surprising. Now try to add some "groove" in this track, trying to play a bit before the beat.
