  • China...cheap products,cheap pilots.

  • I'm no pilot but if my plane was falling out the sky, the last thing I'd do is reduce the trottles to idle!!

  • looks like pilot, otherwise they've would have never been able control the plane again.

  • Comment removed

  • AA Flight 587 too much rudder China Airlines Flight 006 too little rudder

  • why are they blaming the pilot the investigators werent there so they shouldnt blame the pilot

  • Having so much equipment, and controls...It's a little bit unnerving when an event happens. I don't blame the pilot.

  • Lesson learned: Never fly a foreigner carrier especially an Asian one.

  • @njattack Lesson learned from you: people will eagerly use even the slightest anekdote - no matter how insignificant it is in the grand picture of things - to fuel their preconceptions and prejudices.

  • @njattack actually, you should never fly an American airline, there's been way more accidents in American airlines than any Asian airlines. Get your facts right

  • @njattack Too true..

  • I think pilots need to know more about engineering. It's important to understand how the plane is built and how the devices are interconnected.

  • 02:56 oh dear!! how could an experienced pilot missed that??

  • When that crew returned to China they were probably tried, convicted and executed by firing squad for damaging the plane.

  • @edwardschlosser1 Yah, except they were from Taiwan, you dumbass. China Airlines and Air China are two different companies, one from Taiwan and the other from mainland China. Not to mention that these planes and companies are privately owned, not government owned.

Ignorant americans like you are why the world sees Americans as stupid and, well, ignorant, when many are actually not :/.

  • blame the pilot? Fuck that.

  • bad pilot!!

  • @chow202 a bad pilot and they would all be dead!

  • @jthornton17 ..yea..my mistake!! i rush to comment before i finish to watch all the episode :P

  • 5:03 - A light bulb. He had to mention the fricken light bulb, didn't he?

For the famous lightbulb incident, look up flight 401.

  • @conurelover the human mind does not store or record data and information at a level the FDR and CVR do. It is up to how one interpret their experience.

  • it's always easier to blame pilots from the ground. they're not the ones in the nose dive with hundreads of souls on board. just like it's easier to blame a game contestant for missing an easy answer from the comfort of your own home.

they're not the one in front of millions of viewers on camera.

  • @jaydogla Apparently you didn't follow the end of the video, and this wasn't a TV show. No comparison.

  • @soco13466 the pilots did pretty damn good. they survived. its easy to point fingers and say they didnt do this they didnt do that

  • Good recovery and landing, but before - horribly poor airmanship

  • 9:17 the person speaking like 00sex

  • 5:08...dude mentions 'the crew can get distracted by one thing. A light bulb etc'..

That actually happened in 'Who's flying the plane' episode. Madness.

  • human factor,

one of the 12 dirty dozen: fatigue almost made the captain crash the aircraft

  • 06:15 computer cursor on the airspeed indicator, bad editing!

  • @conurelover Yes, you are 100% correct. That KLM pilot at Tenerife must be frying somewhere in Hell. When I think of the terror and suffering that he caused. Apparently, that tragedy caused many airlines to revise cockpit communication protocols, but too late for hundreds who died......and all those who still live with the scars.

  • Folks, many of you are too young to know about the Tenerife disaster, the worst commercial air disaster in history, in about 1977. Two fully-loaded 747's crash into each other on the runway, one of them at V1. Result: About 450 people burned to death. Cause? 100% pilot error in the KLM plane. Both planes in perfect condition--before they were torn apart & burned. The KLM pilot was a disgrace to the profession. Eternal shame on him!

  • Verdict: Flight engineer & pilot error in response to a minor problem on engine #4. I would cancel a reservation if I knew this captain was flying. This type of pilot means well & tries to do right, but can get passengers killed. Thanks to Boeing for building an airplane that will often forgive a confused or disoriented pilot. At the minimum, he needs complete re-training & physical/mental examination. Pilot fatigue is no excuse; his training should overcome this. Good job landing, though.

  • i am 12 years old and from flight simulator 2004 lessons i know that you don`t have to keep focus on just one of flight instruments...SCAN THEM!!!!!!!!!!

  • A lot of these problems seem to arise from the crew's understanding of the auto-functions of the plane. Might be a good thing since they would never have had the need before to use them, but considerably problematic for similar situations.

  • the queston is they are balming the pilot which has no fault

  • Rule # 1 - Someone must always fly the plane during ANY in-flight control problem. Not the auto-pilot. Left rudder to compensate the right roll tendency with # 4 engine loss, and trust your instruments(i.e. ADI).

  • Rule # 1 - Someone must always fly the plane during ANY in-flight control problem. Not the auto-pilot. Left rudder to compensate the right roll tendency with # 4 engine loss.

  • Rule # 1 - Someone must always fly the plane during ANY in-flight control problem. Not the auto-pilot.

  • you know, dudes, no matter how much training you get, you can never predict human behavior under extreme situations. I am glad these pilots held up becuase if i was the dude, I would be shittng my pants and be panicing like a baby girl...

  • These pilots = Made in China

  • @ODOMAN123 you meant Taiwan... look it up dude!

  • @epjb226 Your ignorance is both insulting and very American. People from Taiwan refer to themselves as Chinese, people from Taiwan call their country Republic of China or simply China. This is all part of why there is a feud between China Chinese and the Republic of China Chinese. Ignorant Americans such as yourself cannot comprehend the complications over there, so you conveniently call it 'Taiwan' when the indigenous people there call their country China and themselves Chinese.

  • @epjb226 Oh and by the way, both Pilot Min-Yuan Ho, Co-pilot Ju Yu Chang, ARE BOTH from People's Republic of China. And are not from the Republic of China, so you're wrong on both counts even if Republic of China was called Taiwan. Fuckin dumbass American.

  • Dang....I thought the problem had something to do with leaving George on and not adjusting the rudder to compensate.

  • jeez, couldn't the crew feel the plane flipping over and over? AND that they were diving nose first into the ground? maybe the captain needs to retire. He was lucky, but might not be next time!

  • he forgot to fly it wow

  • awsome vid. like those pilots!

  • I bet he paid more attention to the other instruments after that! I mean... if he wasn't fired!

  • I saw Bomb in the board that was worse

  • Poor airmanship, lack of instrument interpretation, lack of systems knowledge, poor cockpit resource management, no use of emergency checklists, etc, etc. In summary a poorly trained crew almost caused a major catastrophe. Furthermore I believe that the "miracle" recovery was more part of the aircraft own stability than the crew...I would not fly with any of them...

  • Amen... and on top of *all that*, they apparently request to climb back up to FL270 !?! Through 20,000 feet of IMC, with suspected ADI problems and unknown damage to the aircraft after a 15,000fpm descent and 5+ g recovery. That's some serious ADM there.

  • "little error of airmanship", understatement of the century. A pilot shouldn't even think twice about this stuff, he should have dealt with it immediately. Seriously, how do people like this get their pilots licences. Most of these air investigations, are due to pilots having no common sense. in the emergency procedure for engine flameout, it says: adjust rudder and aileron trim to prevent sideslip, apply extra thrust to compensate and drop to an altitude below 35,000ft

  • @liamp1994

Amen... and on top of *all that*, they apparently request to go back up to FL270 !?! Let's see - through 20,000 feet of IMC, with suspected ADI problems, and unknown damage to the aircraft after an uncommandend 15,000fpm descent / 6g+ recovery. Now that's some serious ADM there.

  • Who's to blame?, the 747 aircraft or the flight crew?

  • We are trained to be in these situations i know the Flight simulaters are much much better now. i fly with American Airlines B-767-300ER and Delta A330-300 and i have seen how complicated these systems are so if there is one little mistakes it will be fatal !!

You need to very big luck and determination in yourself to pull out from these Dives

  • to gilgsn

yea maybe your right... but every VIS flying pilot will tell you that you you have to flight with your ass... it doesn´t matter how big your aircraft is you will feel it in your ass what your aircraft is doing or where is it moving...

  • Seems pretty simple to me.. When you learn to fly IFR (no vis), you learn to trust your instruments, because your body gives you conflicting feedback. They had a minor engine problem, disengaged the auto pilot and lost control without the reference of the horizon. Those guys are totally incompetent to fly IFR. Scanning the instruments including the attitude indicator is a very basic IFR skill. I went through the training, it was always emphasized. MORONS!

  • The narrator is saying flight zero zero sex

  • You can never believe the NTSB or FAA. They are corrupt corporatist/government agencies. They cover up for falsified mechanic records and incompleted flight trainings. Almost always pilot error is given as the reason for a crash or near-crash!

  • I'm slightly confused. They said applying pressure on the rudder would have a twisting effect on the plane, but wouldn't that be the ailerons?

  • the technician is dumb.

  • he disengaged the auto pilot when they started to experience some trouble.... its is shown in part one.. but here you are saying he did not.... are you kidding us?

  • @TheOnalethata thats what i thought too ...

  • They hadn't the nose gear? 0:30

  • @Mixer8900 i know! no one seen tht ??!?!

  • They hadn't the nose gear? 0:30

  • I don't get it... why did the flight engineer think engines 1, 2 and 3 flamed out?

isn't there an orange thingy on the display that shows what the throttles are set to?

  • most improtant thing is they all live

  • This just goes to show you most plane crashes are caused by human errors.

  • deffinenatly.

Allah Save this plane and all the lives o board...Allah give us power to fly in the sky

    .

    .

    Thanks to Allah..

  • @saima795

wat abt 9/11.. where was allah at that time

  • @saima795 allah did jack. it was all humans who did this.

  • @saima795 if so, he is one insane skitsophrenic !

  • I guess at least the pilot landed the plane safely even if he was stupid in not staying in bed, :/

  • XD well at least the passengers got a ride on the vomit plane. well, the pilot sure had guts.

  • 5:04 - could've been a lightbulb

I seem to remember another ACI episode where the entire crew was focused on a light that wasn't working...

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah Witless Fool its the Eastern Airlines Lockheed 1011 Tristar crash in the Everglades.

  • You mean Eastern Airlines 401

  • their Attitude instruments?

    or their Altitude instruments?

  • That aircraft has both.

  • they are two different things...altitude is height and attitude is how the plane is in relation to the horizon

  • Comment removed

  • @chaz567123456789

Actually, altitude is the vertical distance between the plane and average sea level

  • Atitude. It shows the level and degree of the plane. The altitude shows how high the plane is.

  • 0:21 0:25 confirmed my comment that it was a stupid pilot error

  • 6:16 there is a cursor on the airspeed indicator LOL

  • LMAO. FAIL.

  • after investigations the heros became the criminasl, you got to love the irony of the truth!

  • This is beginning to sound like the Eastern Airlines Flight 401 incident all over again.

  • well it was COMPLETLY pilot error on EAL401

  • Shut up !

  • your name tells us who you really are.. a bigtime "badasssucker"

  • human error!

    gosh!

all you people are always talking about boeing but most of the time its human error and they just happen to be flying a boeing.

and the good thing about boeing is that you can still have some basic controls when you loose all engines or power but with airbus once you lose all power its over, its a done deal.

    boeing is better.

  • Is it really safe to fly? I've never tried it.

  • Chances of dying in a road accident in your lifetime: 1 in 83.

Chances of dying in an air accident in your lifetime: 1 in 1,500.

Yes, it's safe to fly. :)

  • I wonder what the odds would be if you were to fly in a plane everyday and drive every day, i think i would be safer in the car. Im sure those odds were worked out with the fact most people dont fly all the time so its less likely, but if you flew every day and drove every day i think the odds in a plane crash would by far exeed the odds in a car crash. So my conclusion is its safer to drive lol

  • those must be some good facts , they must be true.

  • Seeing as I've forgotten the source of my first facts, how about this one:

The odds of being killed on a single trip in an airliner accident is 52.6 million to 1. The odds are lower for smaller aircraft.

Source: NTSB Accidents and Accident Rates by NTSB Classification 1995-2004 DOT Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) 1995- 2004

  • Tunnel vision!

  • "Why trust anything made in China???"

It's cheaper and Asians are really smart.

  • Boeing = Made in USA.

China Airlines is based in Taiwan.

    You fail.

  • What does that even mean??!

  • insturment scan there air china foolss!

  • laurel ad hardy are driving this plane

  • lmao you wrote " laurel ad hardy are driving this plane" these pilots need advise from a person that thinks you drive planes, fly boats and sail cars. haha

  • its easy to comment when ur on ground, and doin investigation then u look only at the faults but the crew so high plane up side down did what they could do

  • Agree.

Whatever he has/hasn't done, he safely landed the plane, saving everyone.

  • he removed my comment so i cant remember what i said, yes im a pilot.

  • gaffirl123, so youre saying that this kind of incident cant happen to any pilot? youre statement is racist for that matter. even behind the wheel, being jetlagged would probably start to take a toll on your information processing speed. pilot or not.

  • Are you stupid or something?

  • he messed up childishly, but heroicly fixed it! Getting it out of such a dive is almost impossible, look at other Air crash investigations. Almost all end up fatal. Now with a broken rear??? Great job pilots.

  • Many airlines tried the manuever and attempt to land in their simulators with their best pilots after this incident. None of them can land the plane safely.

  • @BoeingRules

Put a man in any situation and he will overcome it

No simulation I say can prepare you for those few seconds.

Can you imagine how fast his brain was WORKING :O!!

  • @CaIlidus ur rite cause simulators cant simulate the sheer terror and the rush

  • @BoeingRules Wasn´t it the Japan Air 747 crash when other airlines tried to simulate the problem, and no pilot succeed, or did they it also about this accident?

  • @BoeingRules Again, retard.

  • @BoeingRules How the fuck do you know this?

  • @BoeingRules The human will to live has a tendency to do the impossible.

  • @vincent3006

    Wow!

    Another god!

Like to arrange a meeting with pilots?

So funny how you read the papers, and then the reports.

It is inaduquate knowledge combined whith humans in ACTION!

Evertime you see the same excuse?

    The excuse is promoted.

Boeing if the are, are smart to have an override on computer system.

Takeover manually, in total failure etr.

  • @vincent3006 you're incredibly stupid

  • @SodomGomorrahWaDC niiice, try give some arguments next time? or a foolish post like yours just cant be taken seriously.

  • @vincent3006 true but what we need to remember in part 1 the pilot didnt get any sleep, so his body was not fully alert and wasnt thinking properly

  • @vincent3006 Do not judge a man by his mistakes, but by how he corrects them. That certainly applies here.

  • @vincent3006 What do yo umean childish mess up?

  • @vincent3006 Nvm, I see what you mean.

  • Well at least they brought the bird down safely. They messed up but made it up.

  • I knew it was pilot error as soon as they started wasting time trying to restart #4 instead of maintaining control of the aircraft. They induced a secondary stall by trying to go level while all three remaining engines were obviously in a compressor stall condition from the primary stall. The 747 has three redundant ADIs, and it was crazy to assume they were all inop just because they didn't like the data they were getting from it.

  • I take it ur a pilot. lol

  • omg? it was not mechanical failure. boo! i thought the chinese pilots were heros.

  • the passgengers said that the pilot was a hero, but they diddn't know that it was the pilots fault!
