kicking the football in association football is totally different to kicking a football in american football ... so i don't count american football toe poking as 'fine' when kicking the ball in association football, because a 5 year old does that in soccer as it requires little skill ... hence why this contributes to the stereotype that americans can't kick balls
@sij747 What do you mean Americans don't understand? I'm American and I played soccer for over 8 years and I know perfectly well that it takes proper skill to kicking a soccer ball. I personally don't understand why people think that Americans don't understand soccer. Just because we have a different name for it and just because it might not be as popular here doesn't mean we don't understand the sport.

the US soccer team playing against the elite national teams from around the world is a major mismatch...thats probably the biggest reason the american public hasnt taken professional soccer to heart...granted there are still a ton of people who watch and play it but compared to the rest of the world its no contest...ive played soccer my whole life and i love it but if it comes to watching a football game or a soccer game, football is far more exciting to me...hope the saints win the SB!

@collierscourt Well said, and ive seen all parts to this, and its good how both players respect each others sport and comment on their different roles. Reggy impressed with how Becks kicks a ball, suprised people get hit in the face, and at how little protection they wear. And Becks was vice versa, the weight of all the padding, helmet etc and they have to run, catch, defend etc Good advert with 2 top blokes.

@BlackMildBunch Football is more than what you do on the pitch. It is a lifestyle. Beckham mastered both sides of this. Of course he is a master of football.
why are you people fighting over a sports name? It's just a fucking name...who cares if Americans call it differently, that's just their culture and language...
Do you see Beckham going up to Reggie Bush and saying its called futbol you dumb bitch -.-?
listen american i dont know if you understand lets be onest football is the best sport ever american football is populair because the us is a big country but football is played every where in europe in africa in asia ow and i almost forgot in south america included brazil one of the best footbalcountrys in the world!!!
well i doubt its the best sport ever, that can definitely be argued but i can say it is the most popular world wide.
Also, you DO know that argument is retarded right? U say that Am. football is only popular b/c its played in a big country...but then you go and say that soccer is the best b/c its played in a big setting (the world) If you say negatively that football is only liked b/c its played in a big setting but then use the same reasoning in favor of soccer, then thats just bias stupidity
Gosh americans are really stupid " bend the bal WOW 0_o " like thats a really big deal. any good soccer player can bend a soccer ball easily. for example take a look at roberto carlos's kick he made against france 1997 that was one of well executed free kicks of all time
Omg jeez. Direct your comment to the person not the country. Yes you have a good point but Americans are not really stupid, just the certain American you are talking about. Stop hating :]
you after i read your comment i can see you are f*cking american. in american ''football'' players don't play the ball with their feet all the time ..they mostly run and hit each other ass and you can count on one hand fingers how many times they play the ball with their feet so this kind of sport shouldn't be called football at all you no brain freak!!!!!!!
i even dont know why americans call their game a football... if in european football (not soccer damn!!!!) all players play with feet mostly, then in american ''football'' they only hit each other and run with ball in their hands...so someone tell me.. how u can call american football as a football at all.. thats just stupid!!!
Ok and to this comment, IDK Why we call American Football Football. I've wondered that and I think It's dumb because yea theres already a sport called that! But I call it soccer just because I grew up with that. I personally love both sports but only play Soccer/Football. But I do think It's dumb that we call it Football, I mean, you don't even use your feet really...
a regulation american football is 11.25 inches in length, and therefore it is technically not a foot long .. tbh the consensus outside north america regarding the naming of american football is that it is an inappropriate and misleading name for the sport, as the ball is technically not a foot long or primarily kicked with the foot .. I was once told by my PE teacher here in Britain:"The name 'American Football' is one of Americas greatest ironies!!" for the reasons i just told
I love the fact that in soccer the best players in the world (messi , tevez, maradona) are like 5'5, 5'7 and it doesnt matter and they also beat players much taller than them , (goalkeepers)
I think both are great sports. There isnt a bad sport. Just the people who like it are diffrent. It's stupid to say that sport is stupid or the other one is gay. You cant compare sports. Not one sport is worse than an other one.
When Beckham taught me, he showed me what part of the foot, what part of the ball to hit, the best options etc. He can be a good teacher, I'm sure there must be a viseo on youtube of him teaching kids.
people, what Bush and Beckham showing us is not just the skill of both sports, they are showing that different even it is a different sports, people should still respect each other. Bush and Becks are getting along to show that either of these sports deserve a good respect to each other.
Honestly, why do you need to care about which sport is better when both of them gives you fun and burns your calories.
I agree with you totally. See, not only British hate American Football, but also the Americans hate soccer. They both should start watching the games and have fair opinions towards it.
american football is nothing. its only 4 x 15 min = 60 min of playing...and thats WITHOUT the thousands of time outs yall get. thats the problem with all those american sports!
plus the players do have their own creativity...the coaches make up al all the plays and tell them where to run and what to do hahah
i play soccer and football. In soccer you can walk like 50min a a 90min game!! and in a football game its always in sprint... so football is much harder...
Yeah you walk that much if your lazy and or suck at soccer! If you actually try and play and get involved in the game you should have continuous running/jogging/sprinting periods. The only time you do walk it is only for a minute or two at the most if that.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Absolutely true... although american foorball requires highly specilized players for very specific roles it is the competition that really makes it difficult to young players to suceed early on.
While Football players are naturally talented and very prone to outperform themselves under pressure, american football players need not only to be in top physical, mental and technical condition but actually have a fair shot in the field. That requires a lot of luck like Retkosfky for the steelers.
I used to play in school with a soda bottle or a can just like any other kid. No wonder why we can juggle a football and americans can just give that pig skin some spin and run around with it lol. Yanks will never produce world class soccer players, but maybe goalies and center backs. They are just simply culturally handicapped to move, think, handle and stay in formation at a competitive level in soccer. Let alone improvise and read both teams formation variations at the same time.
What should i do, play american football and if you make it you could easily sign for a nfl team for about $15 mil a year, or go to MLS and make about 35,000 a year, i wonder what all the kids of america are going to be working their way towards? hmmm. Too bad no americans are good at soccer..oh wait, Carlos Bocanegra, Brad Friedel, Brian McBride, Claudio Reyna, Frank Simek, Jonathon Spector, Tim Howard, Kasey Keller, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson to name a few. Dont post ignorant comments.
That was a few seasons ago and just from contracts to their respective clubs. Does not include payment for UEFA, Champions, FIFA nationals, incentives or sponsors.
Thank God they call it soccer... because what they play here in the US is not football lol...
talk about money, while american football players are going to college waiting to be drafted real footballers are making millions in their teens... lol
football is not genetic. you dont need 200 years. play it. a lot of games use hands, european master some of those too. soccer is one of the few with such foot play. but others like surf, windsurf, skateboard, etc are famous everywhere. get into it . soccer rules the world. see somr cristiano ronaldo or ronaldinho tubes, you'll be knocked out :). and it's the best team play, spectacular plays!
Strangely enough most of the best players in the world speak either Spanish or Portuguese... coincidence??? Is it just coincidence for example that Argentina got 1000 pro players in their league and a bit over 4000 around the world??? Paraguay leading solidly the South American qualifiers for the next world cup with 1/4 of the population of Argentina and 1/90 Brazil's while being the second poorest country in the region??? You are born into Football, you breath it and live it.
well, yes naturrally. is a cheap sport. children make balls out of rags in africa and play bear foot. also a rithm nations and dancing nation get it easy on the foor work :). different sort of stile 100% :)
All you need for gridiron is a ball. Most people playing football play bare foot in poor countries, so for both sports all you need is the same equipment. Gridiron is basic and not challenging. Most gridiron players prefer basketball but were too small. American sports are dumbed down British sports and little else.
The reason American Football players wear all the padding is because they're allowed to tackle from all angles (including front).
Playing the sport without padding is just stupid and plain old dangerous.
All three sports debated (i use this word loosely) here, rugby, AF and soccer are all tough and demanding in their own right. You can not like them, thats one thing, but neither are for pussies.
And that little run of Becks vs. Bush vids is good fun.
as soon as reggie asked beckham if he uses his toes, and becks told him "no" and showed where he kicks from, reggie was like..." aww hell no, this some funky shit i ain't even gonna fuck with.."
before that he was really into learning, after that, he just asked beckham a random dumb questions like "do guys get hit in the head a lot... mmm... thats crazy"!! lol
good explanation, but no mention about the non-kicking foot. importantly, this needs and will be be pointing in the direction of the ball initial line of trajectory - the first thing i would have mentioned. god I'm a pedant!
Secondly, it is American Football which is boring. The game stops every 5-10 seconds, and nothing happens for the next half a minute. Very, very slow paced game. But it would have been more interesting if the players didn't use protection. Then I would call it a real game, or game for men.
In real football, the game rarely stops. It is a more flowing game. There is a lot more tension.
american football is a pussy as sport compared to rugby so all you fat lazy yanks who enjoy american football is a pussy sport to rugny.you americans have more chins than a chinese phone book
yep all of us are totally fat...especially me...and i dont even know how im so fat...because i dont eat fast food and i dont drink soda or other carbonated drinks high in sugar....my 6.5 body fat percentage is off the charts...
Normally i dont compare Football to nfl Gridiron as its a mismatch and beneath me, anwyway..
Football is a 90 minute sport for athletes
Gridiron is a 12 minute activity for unskilled obese people
56% are clinically obese in nfl Gridiron and with average actual playing time of 12 minutes that means a 4 hours snoozefest 3hrs 48 mins is fags in tights doing nothin. Believe it or not there is a move called "Quarterback snap"..he sticks his hand (sometimes entire arm) around players "A" hole
it always boggles me why americans call football soccer..american football is more like rugby than anything else.
anyway i would far prefer to be a football pro than an american football pro..mainly cos pro-footballers get near enough £100,000 a week or something silly like that
top nfl players make the same thing or more... and the average premirship player earns £40,000 week.. only the top players like lampard terrry and ronaldo make up to £100,000 +
lol beckham earns less at the Galaxy then he did at Real Madrid. Real Madrid is the richest club in the world. no doubt bekhams makes a fuck load, but to think that some shitty MLS "thing" pays more than the richest club in the world makes no sense
and Real Wanted beckham to stay at Madrid, adn they could have offered more money than the galay could ever imagine
dont say things like "beckham left for the money" cuz that is the bulls biggest shit!
He didn't leave for money, he left to try and bring football to a higher level in America. But he does make a lot more at the Galaxy than he did with Madrid. Beckham is the highest paid footballer in the world. More than Cristiano Ronaldo, or Torres, or Ronaldinhio or Gerrard or anyone.
I stand corrected, those were just the figures I saw around the summer but I'm not surprised that he has been passed, but still more than he would have made at Madrid. Galaxy's owner owns a bunch of different american teams so he has a large amount of wealth.
Thats partly true..Beckham is 33 and his best Football days are past him so commercially going to america to play Football in MLS was a goldmine..him sayin Football could be #1 in america is commercial speak. Basically.. you HAVE to sell your product so that means hype and grandiose statements.
Football wont ever be huge in america UNLESS yanks good enough to play it..and there aint (apart from goalkeepers who get to use hands). Theory is yanks have used hands for 100+ years so cant use foot.
click my page and watch a rooster who can play soccer bater the bech and better football than reggie

listen american i dont know if you understand lets be onest football is the best sport ever american football is populair because the us is a big country but football is played every where in europe in africa in asia ow and i almost forgot in south america included brazil one of the best footbalcountrys in the world!!!
far1959 2 years ago
well i doubt its the best sport ever, that can definitely be argued but i can say it is the most popular world wide.

Gosh americans are really stupid " bend the bal WOW 0_o " like thats a really big deal. any good soccer player can bend a soccer ball easily. for example take a look at roberto carlos's kick he made against france 1997 that was one of well executed free kicks of all time
jeman47 2 years ago
Omg jeez. Direct your comment to the person not the country. Yes you have a good point but Americans are not really stupid, just the certain American you are talking about. Stop hating :]

wandzaa 2 years ago 2
we call it dat b cuz the ball is a foot long
d4worldsgreatest 2 years ago
no sense because u don't play it with feet. so stupid reason. sports names become from way how you play it not how the fu*king ball looks like
wandzaa 2 years ago
lol you need to run with your feet and after every touch down they score a pat so yes they do play it with their feet
katokimo 2 years ago
you after i read your comment i can see you are f*cking american. in american ''football'' players don't play the ball with their feet all the time ..they mostly run and hit each other ass and you can count on one hand fingers how many times they play the ball with their feet so this kind of sport shouldn't be called football at all you no brain freak!!!!!!!
wandzaa 2 years ago
i even dont know why americans call their game a football... if in european football (not soccer damn!!!!) all players play with feet mostly, then in american ''football'' they only hit each other and run with ball in their hands...so someone tell me.. how u can call american football as a football at all.. thats just stupid!!!
wandzaa 2 years ago
Ok and to this comment, IDK Why we call American Football Football. I've wondered that and I think It's dumb because yea theres already a sport called that! But I call it soccer just because I grew up with that. I personally love both sports but only play Soccer/Football. But I do think It's dumb that we call it Football, I mean, you don't even use your feet really...
Grumblep1 2 years ago
@Grumblep1 The ball is a foot long dumbass
WarriorBalla22 1 year ago
@WarriorBalla22
a regulation american football is 11.25 inches in length, and therefore it is technically not a foot long .. tbh the consensus outside north america regarding the naming of american football is that it is an inappropriate and misleading name for the sport, as the ball is technically not a foot long or primarily kicked with the foot ..

Honestly, why do you need to care about which sport is better when both of them gives you fun and burns your calories.
timmyfung01 2 years ago 2
I agree with you totally. See, not only British hate American Football, but also the Americans hate soccer. They both should start watching the games and have fair opinions towards it.

i play soccer and football.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Absolutely true... although american foorball requires highly specilized players for very specific roles it is the competition that really makes it difficult to young players to suceed early on.

Too bad no americans are good at soccer..oh wait, Carlos Bocanegra, Brad Friedel, Brian McBride, Claudio Reyna, Frank Simek, Jonathon Spector, Tim Howard, Kasey Keller, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson to name a few. Dont post ignorant comments.

football is not genetic. you dont need 200 years. play it. a lot of games use hands, european master some of those too. soccer is one of the few with such foot play. but others like surf, windsurf, skateboard, etc are famous everywhere. get into it . soccer rules the world. see somr cristiano ronaldo or ronaldinho tubes, you'll be knocked out :). and it's the best team play, spectacular plays!

You are born into Football, you breath it and live it.
elaquino111 3 years ago
well, yes naturrally. is a cheap sport. children make balls out of rags in africa and play bear foot. also a rithm nations and dancing nation get it easy on the foor work :). different sort of stile 100% :)
giovea 3 years ago
All you need for gridiron is a ball. Most people playing football play bare foot in poor countries, so for both sports all you need is the same equipment. Gridiron is basic and not challenging. Most gridiron players prefer basketball but were too small. American sports are dumbed down British sports and little else.
warriorprince1010 3 years ago
The reason American Football players wear all the padding is because they're allowed to tackle from all angles (including front).
Playing the sport without padding is just stupid and plain old dangerous.
All three sports debated (i use this word loosely) here, rugby, AF and soccer are all tough and demanding in their own right. You can not like them, thats one thing, but neither are for pussies.
And that little run of Becks vs. Bush vids is good fun.

before that he was really into learning, after that, he just asked beckham a random dumb questions like "do guys get hit in the head a lot... mmm... thats crazy"!! lol

good explanation, but no mention about the non-kicking foot. importantly, this needs and will be be pointing in the direction of the ball initial line of trajectory - the first thing i would have mentioned. god I'm a pedant!

I like soccer and American Football.
But Football is just more invigorating.
All athleticism aside-
Soccer is like marathon running. Sure it can be interesting sometimes but it lasts too long and gets boring.
In football people are always getting hit and it's designed to be more fast paced and hard hitting.
I wouldn't doubt i'd get cussed out for this but that's just my opinion.
hurdlexl51 3 years ago
First of all, it is called football, not soccer.
There is a lot more tension.
ogetbilo 3 years ago 4
I don't even care about the hitting. SOCCER is boring because scoring is slow paced.
But I'm not going to argue with you over this, sorry.
you think what you want.

Slater071 3 years ago 2
There Only Clinically Obese as they only take into account the BMI (Body Mass Index) and not the muscle, this is why it is classed as obese

o i'm sure. is that y beckham went to Galaxy. no.
laxitup1717 3 years ago
lol beckham earns less at the Galaxy then he did at Real Madrid. Real Madrid is the richest club in the world. no doubt bekhams makes a fuck load, but to think that some shitty MLS "thing" pays more than the richest club in the world makes no sense
and Real Wanted beckham to stay at Madrid, adn they could have offered more money than the galay could ever imagine
dont say things like "beckham left for the money" cuz that is the bulls biggest shit!
rcde4ever 3 years ago 3
Actually Beckham was offered more in Galaxy.
He left cuz Victoria wanted to go to LA, so...
indyjones32 3 years ago
He didn't leave for money, he left to try and bring football to a higher level in America. But he does make a lot more at the Galaxy than he did with Madrid. Beckham is the highest paid footballer in the world. More than Cristiano Ronaldo, or Torres, or Ronaldinhio or Gerrard or anyone.
tomasmontgomery 3 years ago
actually, as of october, the two players with the highest annual salary are Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Leo Messi.
rcde4ever 3 years ago
I stand corrected, those were just the figures I saw around the summer but I'm not surprised that he has been passed, but still more than he would have made at Madrid. Galaxy's owner owns a bunch of different american teams so he has a large amount of wealth.
tomasmontgomery 3 years ago
Thats partly true..Beckham is 33 and his best Football days are past him so commercially going to america to play Football in MLS was a goldmine..him sayin Football could be #1 in america is commercial speak. Basically.. you HAVE to sell your product so that means hype and grandiose statements.
Football wont ever be huge in america UNLESS yanks good enough to play it..and there aint (apart from goalkeepers who get to use hands). Theory is yanks have used hands for 100+ years so cant use foot.
