Well, here's my guess.

I think that in 2004, with NYM coming and MK's eating disorder becoming known, the paparazzi and other media intensified their attention on them. They were a little overwhelmed.

I think that some of it has to do with the meanness of some people, such as tabloids. MK and Ash, being sensitive, bright people, were kind of hit hard by some of the misinformation and silly rumors.

Anyway, that's my guess. :)

PS - I also think that part of the changes were completely normal/natural, turning 18 in 2004 and at the same time taking control of Dualstar - lots of extraordinary pressures added to the normal ones of adolescence.

I think MK&A handled themselves VERY well, with poise, grace and dignity. One (of several) reasons I like this vid is the title "Stay strong...etc."

I think in addition to being very bright and fantastically beautiful, MK also has tremendous strength of character.
