Great piano players a mutual admiration society.Everyone who watched this clip should watch all the other one's with Dr Taylor and Tommy Flanagan!Pure enjoyment.
I went to the Village Vangurad at NY to see his live performance in 1997. This was the last time when I saw him. The performance was not so technical but very sophisticated. Having shaked with hands after the stage is now one of my great memories for Tommy.
Tommy also played this tune in a Sextet setting. With John Coltrane, Idress Sulieman ,Kenny Burell,George Joyner and Arthur Taylor.Just as Swingin but different more up tempo.Great tune as I recall Dr Taylor comment too Tommy about thedifficulty of the tune,Tommy made a joke about it saying every time I play it seems more diffcult each and every time I play it Once again wonderful post!
@hremdldw That's right ,Tommy recorded that tune back in 1957 with musicians that you named except the rhythm section as I recall were fellow Detroiters Doug Watkins on bass and Louis Hayes on drums. Anyway, excellent record and a great tune that I heard Tommy play many times and it never seemed too difficult for him to play it.
I think I heard the same one, one in 1982 or 83. I've been looking for the video clip of this Minor Mishap played by J.J. Johnson, etc., but no avail. Pity, it was really great.
RIP Flanagan

Billy Taylor's smile pretty much encompasses everyone's reaction.

中学生のころ東芝AurexJazzFestivalで,クラークテリーやJJジョンソンらと競演した際に演奏された曲,40過ぎた現在になってもなお,心が揺さぶられる名曲です。
