  • People says they are satisfied with Google, but they don't know what they miss!!

  • Lang meiy thi Beuik's lum reek!!

    Gordon

  • Libraries are dead, and all of the library supporters should die.

    LONG LIVE TEH INTERWEBZ!

  • @MombasaNightTrain Thank you for providing such a prime example of why libraries are still so important, and why education is necessary.

  • What? The Lakeland (Florida) Public library banned me for life for teaching children chess last month. The librarian thought it was odd I took an interest in fellow humans.

No due process, no right of appeal. The City Counsel refuses to hear my complaint.

I will never support a library in America again!

  • @georgegrasser So you're saying that you are against the idea of the existence of libraries in America because you had an altercation with the staff members of ONE library? If you are truly interested in education, why make such a broad, blanket statement disavowing American libraries?

  • did barbara dead?

  • The last time I shouted it out for my library they kicked me out!

  • there is nothing like reading a real book. text on your computer screen cannot compare.

and even people who can't afford internet access CAN go into a library and read. there's no sense in ranting online saying "down with libraries," they are a crucial part of our society.

  • i love google

  • thanks, but no thanks nypl. I got my own lib, it's called google search, and i don't get charged for late fees, using project gutenberg.

  • I AGREE!!! Use Google... You can Copy an Paste...

  • With all due respect, where do you think google gets the materials you look up? THE LIBRARY!!!! They download them, but I guess you wouldn't know that. And as far as late fees, they stopped most of them. As great as the internet is, there is nothing like having a book or seeing the material in front of you. Bet you also didn't know the NYPL has the original Declaration of Independence that they put on display for FREE, for you to see!!!!

  • I don't care if i read a Yeats' poem on a toilet paper, or on a wall with red chalk-- it's still Yeats'.

  • ohh plese

  • lol very funny. do we really need the original declaration of independence on display? why are all of the speakers in this video adults and not teens, children or any other new generation?

  • Hmm, so I guess "ignorance really is bliss". You all claim that libraries don't matter and yet, you all the ones that took time out of your days to hate on them, what sense does that make? And while YOU may not appreciate the history and education the NYPL has to give many other people do. And next time you have a term paper or whatever and are citing information, just remember it is the NYPL who put it there so your lazy self can "copy and paste it"

  • i did not claim library dont matter

i do not hate the library

    i do appreciate education

i dont ever copy and paste anything with out citing source

what im really trying to say is that using the declaration of independence doesnt help. all the speakers in the video are adults and thats a problem. it makes it bias. the approach that you guys are attempting isnt worth the effort. its better off to find another way. atleast see if the kids care and have them get involve so you have a bigger group.

  • remember why you guys are trying to save the library. is it for the adults themselves or for the kids and the new generation? geez "ignorance is a bliss" for the youth and the maturnity.

  • I agree with you, libraries are institutions for all ages, but especially for the newer generations. And my comment about not caring and ignorance is for those who claim they dont need libraries and will use google instead. But I do stand firm on my example of the Declaration, it is items like this that make the NYPL such an important and influential place in NYC. It is history and education at its finest. It is great when any person can see important document face to face.

  • I think this is hysterical people going off about the library. But I must admit I do agree with parakletos5417 and IIViperStrikerII, libraries are important for everyone and should remain open. But Viper is right, kids are the ones who need them most, maybe they should do a kid's video saying why its important. And btw, I didnt know google got their books or some info from the NYPL, intresting.

  • **is it for the adults themselves or for the kids and the new generation? **

Both. Such a binary choice is a false distinction.

  • Jeff Daniels libraries are for all people, not just those who are less fortunate. Think Einstein, Plank, Gandi, Mother Theresa, Hemingway, people of all professions, occupations, and lives come to the library to grow.. love libraries

  • Libraries are legalized piracy.

Libraries are the reason why writers can't make a living and why new books are not being written.

Join the MPAA and RIAA in putting these pirate organizations in their place!

Down with legalized piracy! Down with libraries!

  • Don't be a dumbass.....maybe if writers sold their books at cheaper prices instead of trying to bleedthe public of their money they would earn more

  • definitely. help support all libraries

    NYPL West Farms Branch

  • Most of librarian in Russia are very rude .

They usually say: shut up , read or get out ! Is it so in NY ?

  • Libraries are without a doubt the backbone of education!

  • Love it. Makes me proud to be a librarian, a representative of this fine profession. All libraries need help at all times, so get out there and support your library!

  • Don't forget the small town libraries. They need help.

  • Ahh, the ideal library, an athenaeum of democratic possibility, information and freedom. Unfortunately, on the front lines of the NYPL branch libraries, it's a public bath of vagrancy and free DVDs. But, public restrooms in NYC are so rare that we can chalk that up as one of the NYPL's secret (and most urgently necessary!) altrustic attributes. God Save the NYPL. New York Public Library; aka New York Public Lavatory. In all honesty, keep up the funding.

  • Great! And Bette she look´s so beautiful, definitly she is divine!!!

    love from México
