  • this truck look heavy

  • its no water as there spuirting a cleanning chemical that is to not only open the lids but also to leave the bins to smell nicer.

  • i just moved to maitland council.... when we moved in the bin had no divider.... rang solo and we got a new sulo bin... it is way different now the divider is really thin and is held in with pop rivets.... pretty weird.

  • crazy way of flipping lids

  • the dividers fall out pretty easily, at my aunties it fell out and they gave her a whole new bin.. im moving to this oncil next week :D

  • good vid this truck is pretty cool with that water squirt good job it is like the sunny coast when they had split syestem but dident hav the squirt BINBOY112

  • cool how a water jet opens the cart lid!

  • I used to have those JJ Richard Trucks at our council before which had those spray lid open things you call and have a split between them. One for Garbage and one for Recycling

  • Mitchell; do the trucks round maitland still sort the recycling by paper/plastic? I know they used to, but I've heard a lot of people have the dividers ripped out believing it doesn't make a difference.

  • Yep they still sort everything at the moment; don't see why they'd still be using divided trucks if they mix it up in the end. I remember when I took these videos that there were some bins without dividers, stupid residents.

  • thats a pretty nice truck, it even sprays the lid opens. you did a good job finding this truck in action. thanks ;) 5/5

  • ive never seen anything like this it sprays the lid open with water lol awesome!!!

  • Mad truck, like it when it sprays the lids open

  • @Sean12325 The reason why the lid gets sprayed open is because it can then get the bottle and paper compartment in each compartment

  • what do you know truck boy, where is your hydraulics 3 ticket bitch lover

  • thanks, garbage buddy!

  • Awesome water squirter

  • I was told by someone that there were JJ Richards in port stephens can anyone try geting a JJR ?

  • JJ Richards doesn't operate in Port Stephens, maybe that someone was referring to JR Richards which still doesn't operate there, but does nearby.

  • Isn't JJ richards and JR richards the same thing??

  • Yes they are basically the same, just different company names and in different areas.

  • I was thinking that looks like a JJR body, with a cool looking rear door, then I looked at the stats and BINGO I was right !!!

I never seen a body that's split east west tho !!!

Does the one paddle do both compartments?

There'd have to be a certain amount of contamination there if it is.

There's gotta be contamination from shaking the bin like that too huh?

    Lifter's fitted with a bin sucker too i see/hear.

Nice vid of a great truck - 5 and Fave.

Thanks for the effort on this one Mitch.

  • - body is made by Solo Resource Recovery (a cousin to JJR, so have their similarities in design)

    - body has a vertical divider and yep, one paddle does both compartments

    - contamination seems to occur when the bottles don't have a smooth discharge out of the bin, then when he shakes, the bottles fall into the paper compartment.

    - that hissing is the water jet building up pressure to flip open the lid

    - thanks for the words :D

  • Hey man nice video i love it. They used to have the Solo trucks in Rye. Iremember the bins al looked the same as these ones. but any way nice one!!!!

  • still do Haha

  • If the lid isn't opened the materials won't fall into the right compartments.

  • im not really sure about other areas but my recycling week is next week and i live in beresfield which is 1 train station before thornton. There is so many different bins in newcastle council but mainly there is really old otto bins for garbage and some sulo ones but the newest garbage bins are totally black with a red lid nearly all of the recycle bins are sulo 2 series but the newer ones are the newer sulo bins.i think maybe next year we will be changing to the three bin system but im not sure

  • I love how it opens the lid with the water... never seen that before (Richards Compactors).

  • i used to live in thornton the bins in the older areas are otto's then they started to use otto bins with sulo lids. then they used mastec bins but the latest ones are full sulo bins. are you going to get any footage from newcastle council, if u are i know all the bins days it u want me to tell u just ask

  • Yer I noticed a lot of new Sulo garbage bins when I was up there, recycle seemed to look a lot the same.

You bet I'll be getting Newcastle footage, not sure when thoughh? I know what the collection days are for the areas, but do you know the recycling weeks for the different areas?? - could you message me?

  • Brand Newey. I thought I'd seen some New accos poking there noses out of the cleaning bay at Gateshead.

  • why is there a bin hanging off the truck did he need to replace a old one or is there a new customer on his route or somethink coz in WA the new bins come in a ute n trailer there at least 250 bins per ute looks great. cheers mitch good job

  • Dunno why it's there, I think it's just a spare in case it's ever needed? Though like you said, could be a new delivery?

  • This is one ASL I could never get tired of watching, and would LOVE to have come to my house every other week! I imagine it's real fun to operate :D

Never knew that the jet spray of water went so high! LOL! I thought there was some other system like this only it uses air rather than water...am I making things up or no?? Looks like it isn't quite failsafe though with overloaded containers, also there were those two in a row that he didn't get the lid open all the way before raising the bin...

  • (contd.)...Anyways, DEFINITELY a favorite!

P.S. Sorry about the comment issue, turns out it was my fault where it 'didn't appear' and not youtube's, originally had never finished watching the video for some reason!

  • I could've followed it for hours if I had the time... first time I ever got to see the system in action! It would be pretty cool to operate, except the times where you drive those few extra critical millimetres and miss the bin :D Not totally sure, but there may be an air version, can't say I've seen it myself. When the lids didn't open on those two bins, I'm guessing it's because the water didn't get pumped as well or there wasn't enough pressure for the blast??

  • Yeah, gotta line it up just perfectly and that's the hardest part...And I would imagine the water not getting pumped as much was likely the cause. How is it operated? Button on the joystick or something??

  • 99.99358% sure that it's operated through the rocker switch on the joystick... don't see why it wouldn't be??

  • Don't see why there wouldn't be enough pressure or that it wouldn't have the button/switch on the joystick??

  • Lack of pressure is probably due to the idea of "modern technology" :D I know the rocker on the joystick controls the diverter flap in the hopper, so I'd assume it'd be on the joystick too... not like it'd be under the driver's seat or something! lol

  • You can be 100% sure - it is done with the rocker.

And it's air and water that's sprayed to open the lids.

  • How did the lids flip up on the bins when the Arm touched them?

  • There's a jet-stream of water that flies up through a whole in the lip of the bin, which hits the lid and flips it open.

  • Nice! Almost identical to those NTM trucks we have in Sweden, But that one is much bigger

  • bit of a messy driver at 7.34 could of at least piced it up

  • nice vid, what type of bins are these and why does he need to push water to make the lid fly of he could just empty like a mj truck

  • Didn't look at who the bin manufacturer actually was, but taking a look I think it's either Otto or Nylex... pretty old bins.

  • ok then

  • Oh and sorry, the water is needed to open the lid because if the lid's closed, it gets in the way of the divider and the materials don't discharge properly.

  • Awesome vid Mitch! Happy Holidays!

  • cone lifters are a bit out of date?? its all grab lifters these days

  • Not the case with JJ Richards, JR Richards and Solo Resource Recovery :D

  • Bit difficult to use a grab lifter on a split bin truck, as the bin would never be picked in the same position twice. It's gotta be comb lifters !!!

  • nice vid

the lid opener made me laugh haha. really nice truck BTW.. why water and not air to open lids?

ohh and a while back you mentiond that there were heil starr system in austrailia? do u know if they still exist out there?

  • Well air wouldn't probably have as much of a strong impact than that of water - light gas vs heavy liquid. I'm sure if air could work they would've used it, so guess there's an inefficiency.

Yes I'm pretty sure the STARR Systems are still available, but none have been sold down here.

  • nice!!!!

  • It's amazing how efficient ASL's have become. Recycling is a perfect application for this technology. Where I live, the men have to stoop down and manually lift 2 bins, which are only about 18" tall. It's lousy for the homeowner also. In my case, about half of the waste stream is recycled (more if measuring by weight). For refuse, I get a 90 gal wheelie that I usually never fill up. The little bins are dinosaurs of the past(no pun intended). These ASLs solve that problem, and look at that SPEED!

  • Nice find Mitch!! This has to be one of my favourite trucks, I see that the new SCRAP doesn't use the rotagrab arm anymore. Still a very efficient system and a bit better than the older SCRAP that have seen. Do you know if this truck operates in Lake Macquarie?

  • Yep, these trucks are probably much better than the older trucks: better tailgate design, packing system and body size. Though I have a feeling glass breakage may be increased with the taller fall height, right to the bottom of the hopper, compared to the others which had about only half the fall.

I'm not totally sure if there'll be some in Lake Macquarie - guess it depends if Cessnock's getting any, but there may be 1 or 2 replacing some oldies in Lake Mac.

  • Awesome dude! Nice to see a new Solo RR SCRAP Compactor, which looks almost identical to the SPARRC. As always, looks great with the New Acco and it's cool how the lids get blown open. Keep up the good work buddy!

  • BTW, Does it still use a conveyor belt, or does it use the same vertical split body like the SPARRC, only with the chutes, not the divider flap?

  • Yep, this body is pretty much identical to the SPARRC - Solo RR uses this same design for all the new split trucks by the looks of it.

If you look inside a SPARRC and this SCRAP, they'll be the exact same - vertically split. There's no conveyor system on this one, everything's done by a paddle. Don't know if you noticed, but it looks like they've put the SPARRC & SCRAP/SCORR design into one - go to 3:55 and watch until 4:07, you'll see how the divider panel moves, just like in the SPARRC.

  • Yeah, I see what you mean, it does move. Guess it is probably a cheaper way to do things. Like you said though, the glass would probably break more because of the larger drop height. However, glass will not be likely damaged by the paddle, as I remember reading that the SPARRC, and presumably the SCRAP use a larger Paddle that reduces force placed on the glass.

  • Would work well for commercial bins where you don't need to give out split 240's to everyone, wonder if that's the reason?

I wonder how the larger paddle delivers less force than the typical one? Would be cool to know... maybe if it's lighter weight or something?

  • I guess if they had a small paddle, there is less surface area, so a larger force would be needed to move the material into the body?

  • That could work I guess, but anyway I got no clue, so I'll go with your theory :D

  • Good job bro.. Dat driver would hav to be pritty acurate to grab the bins wif a comb lifta

  • GREAT JOB i love how it blasts the lids open then it dumps it. Also the flap thing on the arm that is used to keep the bin stable while being empties is the coolest feature ive seen on any aussie garbage truck yet. what truck collects the trash? 5 stars and fav for sure.

  • Glad you liked it :D

That 'flap' is also there to stop the bin falling to it's death, is a pretty cool thing for a side loader. The garbage in this council is serviced by an MJ Refuse, I was lucky to get a MkV model =]

  • Well I dont think I need to tell that this video rocked my socks off haha oh yeah and FKN AWESOMEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVED EVERY SECOND!!!!!! 5 STAR and of course FAV! :D
