If you look at the water erosion patterns on the back of the sphinx and compare to sand erosion you can see that it looks nothing alike. It's clearly water eroded and those types of erosion could only be caused by long term exposure to rain. Egypt has been dry for at least 9000 years. I also believe that the head was recarved and the sphinx represents Leo like the Pyramids are layed out to represent Orions Belt
