  • 10:14 I love it when more successful programmes have used jokes from writers earlier less well known lines :D It's a nice reminder of humanity

  • 1:12 - Emma Thompson relaxing at home.

  • its interesting to watch Hugh putting on such a bad American accent

  • Hugh is much balder than I've ever noticed in House

  • I love his pants in the cellar tapes

  • That Florence Nightingale joke was recycled in Blackadder 3

  • wow. all my memories of Tony Slattery are from his Whose Line days, he's so much older! of course he would be but holy crap.

  • I was thinking to myself that I'd only watch a 1 minute vid about Stephen Fry, now it's nearly been 3 hours of getting sidetracked....

  • I never thought Oxbridge produced so many comedians. It's great to see Fry and Laurie back together again!

  • Err God...I really just want to see the two of them hanging out and reminiscing about this stuff themselves rather than having crappy out takes, dodgy animation and some breathless awe inspired narration for what just simply amounts to two blokes babbling on to each other.

  • these two together are like little kids. that's real friendship.

  • @Methoswicca Good heavens yes! I have been in love with Emma Thompson since I first saw "MuchAdo" at the cinema.

  • "Yes, it was the 20th century...1983 to be precise."

    Oh god, you don't say?

  • 08:26 on to the commercials.... pffffft love these two.

  • 2010 britain, just what the bloody hell went wrong? how right they were haha

  • In almost all of those photos, Stephen had a pipe.

  • Emma was such a hottie.

  • @Methoswicca She's still a hottie!

  • Heh... Yamaha.

  • I love that Hugh assumes the first thing in Stephen's autobiography is "How I met Hugh Laurie". Like nothing of note happened before that. <3

  • Just about everyone of these great actors are funny except that knob Ben Elton.

  • i think fry was tellin a lie when he said he didnt fancy Laurie and thats why his storys different because he had a fantasy of Laurie sat on a bed being romantic with a guitar and wine

i like that story better <3 xxxxx

  • Whoaaa....Tony Slattery, looks so different from when he was on Whose Line. :P

  • Presented by Edmund Blackadder, you bitch.

  • This is good stuff. Agree with other commenters, the narration is abysmal. And unless that Perrier award was given in the character of Mr. Bean (I don't know, although I doubt it was), use the man's real name, please. Rowan Atkinson. Sheesh.

  • "Oh, you weaver of words!" :D They're just so lovely together.

  • Good God, Emma Thompson is FABULOUS.

  • There are to many examples of this type of program on TV, great subject matter and celebrities, somewhat ruined by awful, dumbed down and poor narration.

  • i'm so happy that I've found this ! Ta 4 uploading!

  • Who is the babe: 3:58?

  • @ashburnhouse Oh, just some punter.

  • "m'colleague"

    "m'colleague"

    "after me"

    LMAO

  • 10:18 Yes! a line later used in Blackadder ;-)

  • I think Alan Davies should have narrated it :)

  • @bryonythompson That would have been great!

  • no dislikes....damn right!

  • Fml the narrator is an absolute retard.

  • God that narrator is retarded.

  • 09:21 I DON'T WANNA KNOW HOW THE @$%¨#$ THEY MET, I WANNA SEE A BIT!!!

  • Should have got Stephen Fry to narrate it instead in his 'Dont be dirty' voice xD

  • Presented by Rowan Atkinson, you bitch.

  • @muffin8or do you actually think a narrator writes the narrative? very naive comment and the 6 people who thumbed it up as well

  • @lickstickly Do you actually think the narrator has no opinion on the delivery of the narration? Or that she cannot voice any complaints about the script? Very naive to think people who are employed to say something have no input in the process. BTW, who do I call a bitch? Do I look at the credits and then find out if it was the head writer, assistant writers, junior writers, director, assistant director, head editor or assistant editor who made the call for the mindless bimbo to say Mr Bean?

  • I don't know why but the comment "I think the verbs are at the back" cracked me up

  • oohhhh i do wish rowan atkinson is also there - at least a small interview~

  • think i believe Stephens version of how they met, no idea why

  • I'm sure Rowan Atkinson would not apperciate this narrator refering to him as Mr. Bean.

  • Emma Thompson is hilarious

  • Also, the whole conversation at 11:21 feels like they're gonna beak out saying DAMN DAMN AND DOUBLE DAMN!

  • Okay, I love Stephen and Hugh obviously, but:

    TONYYYYYYYY <3

  • @ndgreenaway

Most pointless comment I have ever read.

  • this woman needs to fuck off. To call Rowan Atkinson Mr Bean is insinuating that children are watching this - which of course they are not.

  • Five-pound guitar from Woolworth's.

  • Not a single dislike! =D

  • The camera man really really loves Hugh Laurie's bald spot.

  • @angrycitizen7 i was rather disturbed for a while, but now, it really humanized him.

  • lol im searching for Alfresco after this

  • Is that Sandy Toksvig at 12.42?

  • @someonelikemyself i think so!!

  • People shouldn´t smoke a pipe before they´ve developed a rather striking moustache.

  • TONY YOU SEXY BASTARD! COME ACK TO OUR TV SCREENS YOU LOVELY, LOVELY MAN!!!!

That said, thanks for uploading. :)

  • 12:08 Wow, Hugh's american accent has gotten 1000x better.

  • Great to see this. Hugh seems to have a slight American accent these days

  • haha at the contradicting stories on how they met! XD

    heh, I believe Stephen's story! :)

  • I find it interesting that Stephen has retained his childish view of the world, while Hugh, who was once fun-loving and bubbly has changed the most to become a cynical sarcastic old man.

Not that I like him any less, it's just interesting how people change.

  • This narrator is Alison Steadman, great British actress and great narrator imho!! But each to their own!! I thought this narration was fine!!!

  • Has anyone seen Hugh Laurie and Damian Lewis in the same room? Just sayin'...

  • damn cool!!!!

  • @MegaPepper123 I hope so :)

  • wtf?!

  • "Hang onto your hats! Plenty more chattering and chortling on its way!"

It's like she knew my hat was so excited that it was about to fly right off my head.

  • So does anyone else think when Tony Slattery says "I know all of them. They're all my children." at 4:47 that he's paraphrasing Goodbye Mr. Chips?

  • okay .. so .. hugh or stephen?

  • I love how Stephen's just constantly cracking up in this. It is almost like a fan talking with his favourite comedian. You can tell he really, REALLY enjoys Hugh's company.

  • I love 3:36, when you can hear the crew laughing at Hugh :). His facial expression is so sweet ^^

  • Why are they repeating everything again and again!?!?!?!!?

  • Hi, could anyone tell me, what did actually said hugh in 3.36, what made stuff laughing? I'm foreign language speaker and I havn't got the message ; p

    regards

  • @damkot0205 Hard to explain. First he says he'll doubt anything Stephen's ever said after Stephen not telling the truth about his guitar. He's saying "Good luck trying to stitch that together," referring to pretending to trace Stephen's prison term but not finding any record. It's a joke story and doesn't translate into explanation well.

  • @damkot0205 he said 'good luck stitching that together' to the producers of this documentary - his story and fry's had some major differences (eg he said they 1st met in fry's room n drank tea while fry said they met at laurie's room n they drank coffee n others like the guitar etc)... so he said good luck trying to merge the story together.. something like that :)

  • Note to self: Go to Cambridge. Rent a boat.

  • Does every gay man smoke a pipe? Graham Chapman and Stephen Fry both.

  • I haven't stopped grinning for about 30 minutes.

  • Oh my DAYS!

    Stephen, Hugh and Tony!

    AND EMMA!

God bless The Footlights Revue <3

  • I love how in almost every old picture of him Fry's got a pipe XD

  • So random at 4:16 when it does a close-up on the gondola woman's torso.

  • Animations are totally secondary to their amazing voices behind it.

This upload is a godsend & I hope it never gets removed.

It's brought so much joy to my life finding this! Cheers!

  • The animations in this show are FUCKING AWFUL. This whole programme is put together like a kid's show. Just because you are a retard Mr director, doesn't mean WE are.

  • @effeffeff Yeah, I keep noticing the poor quality of the animation, too. Why does Stephen's caricature look exactly like Matt Smith? lol

Also, as an American who has noticed how often Brits get annoyed when Hugh is referred to as House, I'm wondering how many people approved of this narrator referring to Rowan Atkinson as 'Mr Bean!'

  • Good god! Look at Emma Thompson at 1.08. Dropdead gorgeous!!

  • 100% - 30% ~ 69%...interesting. xP ;P

  • Hehehehehehe, the differences are so amusing! :D I'm gonna side with Hugh's story. <3!!! :D *grins* I'm all for some market penetration...;) WHEEEEE, HUGHHHHH, goddammit, THANK YOU! <3!!!! xP ;P

  • P.S.:All this "they were brilliant from the start" is in such vast contrast to Eddie Izzard's documentary, were he just kept struggling for ages.

In his documentary, Eddie talks about how Fry and Laurie won the Perrier while he was on stage with a play that nobody watched.

  • I love that people mention Mitchell and Webb in the same breath as Fry and Laurie. Wonder if they'll ever become as famous.

  • can't stand the narrator (we're not little children watchign nursery rhymes dammit!)

    but the rest is awesome!

  • @annaChii I've heard her narrate on other things and I think it's just the 'explanatory tone' that she has.

  • @annaChii the narrator is Allison Steadman an immensely talented actress, frequent collaborator and friend of Stephen and Hugh's, the reason for her slightly childish speech (of which i dont find it off-putting or childish at all) i suspect is that the tale is told like a chirldens tale, i mean look at the book and animations its just common sense

  • @annaChii It's done ironically

  • Did I say thank you already?.... thanks!!

  • Love Tony Slattery :)

  • Why is this narrated like a childrens TV programme? Awful woman. Nevermind. Thanks so much for uploading anyway!

  • @costeris35 : Indeed, very annoying. She narrates a lot of BBC programmes, because I heard her voice quite often, and she always irritated me.

  • Tony Slattery... <3

  • They can't even get their story straight! #LOL

  • "I know all of them... they're all my children..." Oh Tony... <3

  • lol poor woman 4:16..thanks for the vids!

  • thanks, forgot to record it

  • Thanks a lot! :)
