Looks Great! When it's sunny I usually use a PL Filter on my Canon 70-200 and it also create that vignetting effect. Saturation on the images are always good if you have green in the background. thanks!
Shopping off the hair a little is not a big deal here. To much space off it is. The story is that she's looking into someone or something which is good; and I think you'd go like... what she looking at? and for me, that makes it. Good one!
cutting the hair was not that bad but if you had included the hairs then you could have followed old rule of third 100%. The car behind have given a perfect composition that is why i like that photo.
Love the fro bro!!! I think cutting off the hair in this specific pic. is no prob. There is so many other things that catch ur eye (facial expression, intensity of the green, hand gesture, etc.) that taking the little girl for a hair cut is not a crime. In my opinion! The hair cut is so unnoticed that it doesn't hurt the photo.
Could do with being more subtle imo. I would up the vibrancy if you want to up the "boom" factor on a kid's photo instead of the contrast so much. Bump your blacks a tiny bit instead. Take down the saturation on her fingertips a bit. Try to aim for not over-saturating her skin, as kids tend to look better in more neutral tones. Doesn't mean you can't give the picture "boom factor", but children's skin tends to absorb hard light too much.
It vud be beter vit all the hair. Dial back contrast somewhat but still make it pop as you did. Overall nice photo, it's tuf to get perfect with kids. Nice videos you do, keep them coming.
@Gmanyo1000 i know the makers of nikon which are the japanese pronounce it as "neekon". But even the officials from nikon in western countries pronounce it as "naykon"
I think if we're talking candids then cutting off some hair is totally fine because what captures the parent's heart is the look on their childs face in action. Emotion is captured through the eyes and face. A few strands of hair isn't going to make or break the overall composition. Of course this is only my opinion.
I have a question, when taking photos of people I hear alot about making sure to focus on the eyes. but whats the best focusing mode to do that in as I am using the d3100 and it has 4 focusing modes (single point, dynamic-area, auto-area and 3d tracking)? Also after choosing which focus mode to use are you to aim directly at the eyes then recompose your shot? Tell me how you do it.
@frontier884 You use single point and place that on the eye. You simply move the focal point on the eye and press it half way through, the camera will focus and you press it all the way. You have to select AF-S with single point.

Great photo, didn't notice the hair was cut of until you mentioned it, I don't think it really matters with that type of shot tbh you got the moment and that is what matters. BUt maybe it is a bit to 'boom' the colours are to over saturated. But then thats your style and makes everything pop :)
I kind of like it. I think it works the dark colors in the photo and the pink in her top. I enjoy the fact that you stand behind your "No Cropping" policy. I would have cropped it just a bit. I don’t seem to mind the hair; I like the sharpness of her air. Thanks for letting us view your work through your eyes.
way over saturated JP!! cutting the hair off is a bad thing for sure! way to much space on the left with crappy composing due to the car in the background causing the whole right side to fill out!! come on man I sometimes think you just pull stuff out for the sake of getting clips up and done quickly for numbers! I think if this is all your gunna keep putting up you might need to hand the reigns over to greg or your gunna start losing subs not gaining them dude! get your shit together man!
i really have NO problem with cutting of some hair, or what ever it may be in other cases. The main thing is the focus on the thing in the story. You have the essentials - the eyes and her beautilfull look and you have her hands.
I don't know how you get away with pulling your contrast all the way, I tried with my photos, but every time I do contrast all the way its just to much. maybe because I'm using the D7000, I don't know. My comfort zone is usually at 3/4 of a contrast.
Cutting the hair off is ok, but imo you've got to relax on the contrast, 100 is jus too extreme you lost so much details... It's nice to make stuff go BOOM but don't over do it, but that's just me.
I prefer having the hands in the middle rather than having all the hair in the picture. Jared does like oversaturating stuff so I'm not surprised with this. :) It does look better than the raw file, though.
Jared, I'm saving up for my first big lens purchase (I have the 50 1.8 Canon now on a T2i) and I was wondering would it be better to get the Sigma 24-70 2.8 for around $500 or save a bit more for the sigma 70-200 for $800
It's lose to much details ( especialy eyes --> the expression) , bit oversaturated , and generaly lose overal sharpness view. I sugjest skin or overal tonning. may be bit of gradient blur from left side. And aa? a yes vigneting sometimes is bad trick. may be contrast must be boosted by the curves and lower down the darks and boost the shadows.
Tricky one, if the car hadnt have been in the background I would have let it be. Unfortunately the whiteness of the car keeps dragging my eyes from the main subject! Great photo but not quite perfect, 9.3 out of 10 in my opinion :-)
Jared, you should really learn the Histogram. It'll help you work Curves and then you can get the contrast you want instead of just boosting contrast with the slider. I think your photography would improve greatly if you just did this one thing. I'm with you on cropping all the way, though! :]
Do you ever think cropping would improve any image ever? I used to think cropping sucked but I have learned it seems to help some images. I think it may help this one. Just curious. Have a good one.

Hi Jared!
I loved the photo and I really don't think cutting off the hair was much of a problem here!
Question...why such a high ISO? It seems that the day was pretty clear.
Also, it seems to me that a slightly lower exposure would also get the job done.
Love your videos, love your photos.
Cheers!

@vinisantos He used a higher ISO because his d3 could handle it and not show any noise, and because he wanted a faster shutter speed.
