  • my turtle does it too but in summer and i don't know why

  • my does it i make fun of it

  • ive noticed my turtle does this but if hes in the basking area to long ive noticed he rubs his head.. ALOT what could cause this, do you think the heat is just making him itchy or maybe hes shedding?

  • @xoxo9613 probably shedding. what kind of bulb are you using and how far away is it from the platform?

  • @m1ste2tea heat and uvb both and about six inches above

  • @xoxo9613 that should be good. I don't think that the rubbing is an issue, if he was to feel hot on his face or head he'd just stick it inside the shell. I'd even go so far as to say that maybe your turtle is growing at a fast rate and it may be "growing pains". Under good conditions(which it sounds like you have) a RES turtle can double in size in a year

  • U seem like you know alot about these turtles. I am very concerned about my baby turtles. Long story short my little girl was bothering the babys while we were cleaning the tank. And when I went to check on them in the sink, she put hot water in the container. I removed them immediately but they are barely moving now. I don't know if they are alive or slowly dying. Please respond asap...Thank you for any advice. My kids love these turtles so much :(

  • @MrWebbs317 wow thats a freeky thing to have happened, let me know how it goes, if they were in there too long they may have organ failure, the turtles dont have a way of stabilizing body temp without their external environment, no sweating or panting like mammals, so best thing is to get them into their room temperature water, and let them cool off, hopefully they're just in shock and will come out of it. let me know how it goes.

  • I call it "Super Manning" when my turtle basks like this.

  • I like the way all turtles stick out there legs like that

  • @c43939 my turtle does it all the time and i call it planking.

  • mine does this all the time now! :D

  • lol I catch mine doing this ALL the time! xD it's soo funny

  • Why do turtles bask like this?

  • @y0usmellz it helps them collect more heat, plus it helps dry them off completely in the crevices and pits of their legs

  • Where did u get it? I cant find them anywhere in pet stores!!!!!!!!!

  • @123amyrebecca they are illegal to outright sell or trade that size due to salmonella risks. You can "adopt" one in shady markets such as NY chinatown or south myrtle beach(where I got mine) if you buy their little dingy plastic habitat, you get a "free" pet turtle. they are usually kept in poor conditions, mine was picked from a 55 gallon tank with like 30 of them in it, a few dead ones which were being eaten by other turtles. bought 2, one died from a parasite worm.

  • @123amyrebecca Oh, If you are seriously interested in one You can buy little ones online, they are much healthier although more expensive with the shipping.

  • @123amyrebecca Some times You can find the Red Eared Slider just like thisone , 3 turtles for $10. U.S. dollars, just look for it, you will find them

  • is it bad to have babies with there shell a little soft?? i have two thats shells are a little soft and i was just curious

  • @TredderTheTurtle all babies will have a semi-soft shell. you need to give its own basking platform, in its own tank, and put a nice UVA/UVB bulb directed at it. reptiglo compact fluorescents work really well at a decent price, and you can direct all of the light onto the basking platform with it. then get some repti-cal calcium powder and sprinkle it inside the turtle food can, shake it up so that it coats all of the food pellets and feed that. Supplement with high protein foods such as shrimp

  • @m1ste2tea thanks, i am gonna subscribe to your channel!

  • lol my RES does tht to

  • I Never Walk fastly When I Am Around My Baby Turtle When Hes basking... He jumps off And Freaks Out...

  • hehe i love when they stretch their legs out to bask, sooo cuttteee

  • i thought hat was bad whent here les do that so i choped my turtles off

  • @randomrazr good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @m1ste2tea it didnt go to waste i ate it

  • @randomrazr you eating it is still a waste.

  • @m1ste2tea just the legs it still alive

  • @LoveYourTurtle how many tanks do you have?

  • All of my 7 res does it too

  • cool cool, all in one tank? do they stack up on each other when basking?

  • All of

  • My turtle is very shy and almost everytime I walk by he jumps off his turtle dock? How do I get him to stay on there?

    Thanks.

  • @Zacattackzak mine do the same thing, they're naturally shy out of the water, the best way to avoid it is to provide some sort of foliage around the basking area, fake vines, real plants... whatever, to make the turtle not feel exposed, and to for you to hide behind while you spy on it.

  • @Zacattackzak mine does the oppisate it goes toward me, how do i make it stay there

  • @kf103 you're lucky, he recognizes you as the feeder, this is a good reaction for the future

  • @m1ste2tea ahh well hes used to me so

  • @Zacattackzak Well my turtle does that too but it turned out they weren't shy, there were just scared. i heard turtles cant see as well when their under the light....soo...what i do is i first let the turtle see me and when they do i walk towards them SLOOWLLY (SLOWLY)

  • nice turtle
