I saw "If At All" by the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, in Jerusalem a couple of weeks ago, and was introduced to some of Max Richter's music through that, which I am exploring further. This piece evokes the same mood as parts of the dance...which (I think) is about the potential in human relationships.
This is just incredible, such basic music melodies, some times simple is just better, because you get to hear the instrument in its purity, entirely stripped bare.
It's very strange how music can rout your inner self and melt it down in the process. To listen to something like this and not be aware of it's power it pretty much means you might have an ear problem or, which is worse, you are under such a pile of mud within that you will never be able to grasp the true meaning of that diaphanous state of mind when you feel that not everything is made of god damn cynical uselessness driven metaphorical stones.
@silbaar Music doesn't have to have any rhyme or reason... it has the ability to fill you up until there is nothing left. There doesn't have to be a reason, Ive never even watched this video and yet the sounds are so incredible I could cry. Just close your eyes and listen...stop trying to rationalize it.
Scorsese chose a great piece here to serve as a sort of tragic love theme for the film. I love how it blends SO well with the the first dream sequence.

Beautiful piece, but a bit derivative of Barber's Adagio for strings...

@arvidtom Ya, I agree, but I think thats what makes it a good piece.
