My old Gamecube got waxed a while back. I picked up another at a pawn shop a few weeks ago and this is the only game I play on it. Still some of my favorite music to this day.

I think Super Metroid still is the best game in the series.
When it comes to the music, basically the entire series is great. There is also a noticable difference. The music in Metroid Prime (the Prime series too) can be very serene and peaceful as well as upbeat and catchy, and it's usually what I think of when I think of it.
Super Metroid however, was a darker game, and featured more atmospheric and scary tunes.

I think the Metroid Prime series are the model FPS. Basing gameplay on exploration, plot and environments. A lot of blowing shit up on the side, but a main focus on immersing the player into the game world. The whole point of being in first person perspective is to immerse the player. Showing the world from their point of view pulls them into the game.
Not to say that the COD formula is bad, but the Prime way is perfect, and I wish more developers would learn from the Prime games.

This game, It still has better graphics than most games today. And thats saying alot since I think it came out in 2003(?), and it still has some of the best BGM ever made.

@nintendoluigi I'm proud to say I've never experienced the atrocity that is supposedly Other M. The concept never appealed to me, and I'd rather keep the Metroid Prime image of Samus in my head. Samus isn't a normal woman. She's a fucking bounty hunter capable of dispatching some of the most grotesque creatures the universe has ever produced. That's the way it should always be.

Corruption failed to capture the atmosphere, the planetary/solitary vibe that made the original so great. I wish I could play MP for the first time again, it was absolutely mesmeric. A better game by miles.

In fact, a Wii U Prime-style Metroid developed by Retro would easily be one of the greatest games of all time. I dunno if you've been there but MP:H was the first ever game I played online...and I made so many good friends on there from around the world, Spain, France and Germany to name a few. The MP was so simple but... so damn great. My dad (!) even played it as well! And damn he enjoyed it a LOT! We look up the MP:H as our favourite MP game ever, next to Halo 3. I just want another Prime with a solid MP... then my life will be complete...

Backed up with another Kenji Yamamoto soundtrack...thats the best game ever right there. I can't wait for E3! Retro did say they were making a game "Everyone wants us to do.", and after proving themselves in the 2-D field with the excellent Donkey kong country returns, we can only hope its a Metroid side-scroller, Fps, or both!

@taiamon Metroid Prime is one of the greatest video games ever devised, as well as its predecessors. The haters are wrong, they're all incredible titles. I don't just want another Metroid game, I want another Prime game. Not only was this the game to teach me to appreciate Metroid games outside of 2D, but this was the game that got me into first person shooters, and it's still (and always will be) one of the best... ever.
I hope there will be a new metroid prime for the Wii U...At launch! Or close to it. We need another prime. What happened to dark samus? Was that her ship? Questions need to be answered!

@juventinorocks What happened to Dark Samus was explained and shown in the end of Metroid Prime 3. As for the ship, I assume it was one of the hunters ship. I forgot his name, Sylux? Or something close to that if memory serves.
@juventinorocks The ship was indeed green and the design is similar to Sylux. I doubt she could have survived the planet's destruction and it wouldn't make much sense to have a final confrontation with her on her own home-world which is the source of all Phazon, have the planet being destroyed only to have her somehow survive all that. Maybe Sylux could have been corrupted by her before she died, then again no one knows yet. Right now all we can do is speculate until they continue the series.

I don't think that's quite right. It was full screen and 640 x 480. That alone puts it behind anything out today. The textures were awesome for the time, but now, not so much. The models, too. Go back and play it and you'll see. It did look amazing for the time, though.
@Truedoogie Honestly, most of today's graphics just hurts my eyes, like overuse of filters and bloom, sure some of it is good, like Alice Madness Returns, but I honestly prefer the graphics of the gamecube, it's just "enough" without being too realistic but still very good.
Also, as a completionist, I have gone through each game on their respective hardest difficulties, and prime to me was still the hardest. And why is 3 the hardest just because it has more action? Metroid was always meant to be a 1st person puzzle shooter RPG. Is call of duty the hardest fps just because it has ridiculously over the top action? Its to the point where its almost stupid (which is why BF is better lol)
@ everyone who says that corruption on prime mode is difficult compared to the 1st game.. on hard mode the last 3 bosses are crazy difficult, and prime himself is almost impossible to beat. The first metroid prime is hands down the greatest of the trilogy.
I personally LOVE the music from MP1 never really played 2 enough to remember the music... 3 LOOKED like it was going to be awful so I put off buying it, and well... it never got... got
@Niightcore Oh yeah, and I still have that original copy from 2002, and it still works fine... that's how much I like this game. I kept the original copy all these years and kept it in working condition, even though it doesn't look like it works. I'd imagine an original copy of this game is rare nowadays.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I can't even tell you how nostalgic this game is for me. Not only do I consider Metroid Prime to be one of the deepest videogames ever made, but I consider it to be a true work of art. There is just no game anything like it. I first played it back in 2002 and I still think about it on an almost daily basis, whether it's the fantastic plotline or breathtaking music that captures my thoughts. There will never be a game quiet as beautiful and unique as this one.
I love this song....but Dark Submerged Temple from MP2 is just creepy.

@nintendoluigi I'm proud to say I've never experienced the atrocity that is supposedly Other M. The concept never appealed to me, and I'd rather keep the Metroid Prime image of Samus in my head. Samus isn't a normal woman. She's a fucking bounty hunter capable of dispatching some of the most grotesque creatures the universe has ever produced. That's the way it should always be.

When I went into Phendrana Drifts this music was so beautiful that I tried to be a pacifist. It being a Metroid game it didn't quite work.

Corruption failed to capture the atmosphere, the planetary/solitary vibe that made the original so great. I wish I could play MP for the first time again, it was absolutely mesmeric. A better game by miles.

this game is one of the best games on gamecube, the one that came last year was far as good as this, im sure atleast 90% of the metroid fans want a new metroid prime game and not yet another game like last year

@taiamon While I actually loved that game despite its fatal weaknesses, I totally agree, a Prime on the Wii U (or at least the 3DS) would be much better. In fact, a Wii U Prime-style Metroid developed by Retro would easily be one of the greatest games of all time. While they're at it, they could throw in some up-to-date, well-refined Hunters-style multiplayer.

@Monolithica Dude...that's EXACTLY what i want. I dunno if you've been there but MP:H was the first ever game I played online...and I made so many good friends on there from around the world, Spain, France and Germany to name a few. The MP was so simple but... so damn great. My dad (!) even played it as well! And damn he enjoyed it a LOT! We look up the MP:H as our favourite MP game ever, next to Halo 3. I just want another Prime with a solid MP... then my life will be complete...

@taiamon Yeah, that sounds cool, just imagine...1080p HD graphics supported by Retro's Amazing art and game design. Backed up with another Kenji Yamamoto soundtrack...thats the best game ever right there. I can't wait for E3! Retro did say they were making a game "Everyone wants us to do.", and after proving themselves in the 2-D field with the excellent Donkey kong country returns, we can only hope its a Metroid side-scroller, Fps, or both!

@taiamon Metroid Prime is one of the greatest video games ever devised, as well as its predecessors. The haters are wrong, they're all incredible titles. I don't just want another Metroid game, I want another Prime game. Not only was this the game to teach me to appreciate Metroid games outside of 2D, but this was the game that got me into first person shooters, and it's still (and always will be) one of the best... ever.

@juventinorocks What happened to Dark Samus was explained and shown in the end of Metroid Prime 3. As for the ship, I assume it was one of the hunters ship. I forgot his name, Sylux? Or something close to that if memory serves.

@juventinorocks The ship was indeed green and the design is similar to Sylux. I doubt she could have survived the planet's destruction and it wouldn't make much sense to have a final confrontation with her on her own home-world which is the source of all Phazon, have the planet being destroyed only to have her somehow survive all that. Maybe Sylux could have been corrupted by her before she died, then again no one knows yet. Right now all we can do is speculate until they continue the series.

I don't think that's quite right. It was full screen and 640 x 480. That alone puts it behind anything out today. The textures were awesome for the time, but now, not so much. The models, too. Go back and play it and you'll see. It did look amazing for the time, though.

@Truedoogie Honestly, most of today's graphics just hurts my eyes, like overuse of filters and bloom, sure some of it is good, like Alice Madness Returns, but I honestly prefer the graphics of the gamecube, it's just "enough" without being too realistic but still very good.

Also, as a completionist, I have gone through each game on their respective hardest difficulties, and prime to me was still the hardest. And why is 3 the hardest just because it has more action? Metroid was always meant to be a 1st person puzzle shooter RPG. Is call of duty the hardest fps just because it has ridiculously over the top action? Its to the point where its almost stupid (which is why BF is better lol)

@ everyone who says that corruption on prime mode is difficult compared to the 1st game.. on hard mode the last 3 bosses are crazy difficult, and prime himself is almost impossible to beat. The first metroid prime is hands down the greatest of the trilogy.

@Niightcore Oh yeah, and I still have that original copy from 2002, and it still works fine... that's how much I like this game. I kept the original copy all these years and kept it in working condition, even though it doesn't look like it works. I'd imagine an original copy of this game is rare nowadays.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I can't even tell you how nostalgic this game is for me. Not only do I consider Metroid Prime to be one of the deepest videogames ever made, but I consider it to be a true work of art. There is just no game anything like it. I first played it back in 2002 and I still think about it on an almost daily basis, whether it's the fantastic plotline or breathtaking music that captures my thoughts. There will never be a game quiet as beautiful and unique as this one.
