carole king is a classic example of the womans movement... she is so horrible but political corrcectness made her like her... she sounds so bad , but thank God that we have a real singer in JT to carry her for the fact she is a woman... Thank God she wasnt trying to be a soldier or a politician or anyone else we pretend to take women seriously !!!!
This is just terrific! In this age of plastic pop and x factor crap, isn't it wonderful to see two such great artists genuinely in love with the music and having such a wonderful time playing it. I'd love to have been there to see it, but God bless youtube for letting us see just a bit!
When my family move off the farm, and into town, they had to search the countryside for hours, yelling my name, and finally finding me in a tree, above the tree house I'd spent so many nights in along with the crickets at night, and the birds singing in the morning.
It took a year or so to warm up to the town people, but one of them had a house overlooking main street, and I could go there anytime I wanted, and I went many times.
The Kennedy Center Honors are in December. If King/Goffin are not inducted, may those responsible get either get coal in their stockings or their electric menorahs blow a fuse and blow their Hanukkah dinners.
rickideemus, when I place my computer mouse on that particular time, I hear "Drop what you're doing right now, climb up the stairs" and then, "with me and see them," or "indeed and see them" or "and meet and see them." What do you hear?
@06monarch Sorry, no. Doesn't scan. Normally, what JT sings there is close to that, but not this time. I do hear the word "stairs" in there. But the rhythm is even different than usual.
How bout that chick at 2:50 eh? She really seems to be groovin.
@rickideemus I don't know what James Taylor normally sings there and simply offered what I thought I heard at that particular moment of this performance. Afraid I can't help you.
That lovely lady knew she was hearing one of the best ever performances of this song.
I do not care what that one person said about Carol King's voice at the age of 69/70. While it may sound 'raspy', how many Seniors do you know have that much vitality? She is a winner, hands down in my book, alongside the silky smooth voice of JT.

My Mom used to sing this to my babies (now 31 and 29). RIP Mom, I know you are up on the roof, watching over us. You were so cool to love my songs and my generation. I was blessed to have you as a Mommy. The kids were blessed to have such a cool Mimi ---- sorry they lost you in '86. They missed you as they grew up. I miss you, but this song stays in my mind .. you stole it from my Carole King album and now it's "My Mom's Song" to me. See you on the roof.
OK, I was really young when this was originally popular, but both James and Carole are stil as talented as ever. Nothing in popular music is comparable! Just amazing. I've seen James in concert, and I would love to see Carole!
2 Legends that still rock the house and voices like no other , Special Mahalo from Hawaii COME TO HAWAII SOON! JAMES & CAROL and friends . We love all you do ..And SHOWER THE PEOPLE with your love in songs!!!!Aloha
this was one of the best shows that i've ever seen. they were unbelievable. and i just love leland sklar. i have been a fan of lee for years and years. he is just amazing!!!!!! go lee
@24kGoldenRocket Juditutie is correct. The song was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. It was first released as a record by The Drifters but not until 1962.
i saw something on TV a couple of weeks ago about these guys, they were a bit before my time. But their performances were outstanding to say the least. For some one who had not heard them the first time round, even i was in awe of them
My dad used to sing this to me when I was a baby and a child. James Taylor's music was a big part of my childhood and Im happy that it was.

Two wonderful singers and writers performing a classic song. The lady can rock as well as she sings and writes.

I love the look of pure joy on Taylor's and King's faces as they sing together. Each appreciates the other. Amazing to watch.

Yes, she co-wrote it with Gerry Goffin. Don't know the year, but it was recorded by the Drifters, and that was a very long time ago.

@06monarch No, no, right BEFORE that. Starts right at 3:13 . That's what I can't make out. I'm telling you it's DIFFERENT from other JT recordings.

Can anyone tell me what they sing toward the end -- just before "We got the stars up above us, and the city light below, no no ..."
They're singing something DIFFERENT there from what I've heard, but I can't make it out! TIA
