  • My dad used to sing this to me when I was a baby and a child. James Taylor's music was a big part of my childhood and Im happy that it was.

  • good song... but when jt starts jumping around... looks like he has done it 1000 times ....

  • i like it

  • I wouldn't want to sing alongside James Taylor. Makes your voice look bad.

  • timeless like the both of them love love love

  • 8iDul2ElFGI at 1:12 and the lady here at 2:51 . Same person, I think!

  • who would have thought that JT would ever lose his hair, lol....

  • This is just terrific! In this age of plastic pop and x factor crap, isn't it wonderful to see two such great artists genuinely in love with the music and having such a wonderful time playing it. I'd love to have been there to see it, but God bless youtube for letting us see just a bit!

  • Great song!

  • When my family move off the farm, and into town, they had to search the countryside for hours, yelling my name, and finally finding me in a tree, above the tree house I'd spent so many nights in along with the crickets at night, and the birds singing in the morning.

It took a year or so to warm up to the town people, but one of them had a house overlooking main street, and I could go there anytime I wanted, and I went many times.

    I'm sure you understand.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • Two wonderful singers and writers performing a classic song. The lady can rock as well as she sings and writes.

  • I love the look of pure joy on Taylor's and King's faces as they sing together. Each appreciates the other. Amazing to watch.

  • Is that Dumbledore on bass? 3:03

  • @mysterytrain3 nice observation............but he looks more like professor crumbs from wizards of waverly place. But great song otherwise :)

  • ammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmazing

  • The Kennedy Center Honors are in December. If King/Goffin are not inducted, may those responsible get either get coal in their stockings or their electric menorahs blow a fuse and blow their Hanukkah dinners.

  • soothes my soul so very much! They are amazing! So real and true to real life! What an amazing song!

  • this soothes my soul...my existential angst...

  • You should buy this DVD. It's freakin awesome

  • awesome song love it

  • My favorite version of one of my very favorite songs, well done!

  • Great stuff !!! (no need to say more)

  • Still awesome......just like they were when I heard them the first time when I was a little skeeter.

  • rickideemus, when I place my computer mouse on that particular time, I hear "Drop what you're doing right now, climb up the stairs" and then, "with me and see them," or "indeed and see them" or "and meet and see them." What do you hear?

  • @06monarch Sorry, no. Doesn't scan. Normally, what JT sings there is close to that, but not this time. I do hear the word "stairs" in there. But the rhythm is even different than usual.

How bout that chick at 2:50 eh? She really seems to be groovin.

  • @rickideemus I don't know what James Taylor normally sings there and simply offered what I thought I heard at that particular moment of this performance. Afraid I can't help you.

That lovely lady knew she was hearing one of the best ever performances of this song.

  • I do not care what that one person said about Carol King's voice at the age of 59/70. While it may sound 'raspy', how many Seniors do you know have that much vitality? She is a winner, hands down in my book, alongside the silky smooth voice of JT.

  • JAMES........................

  • An American Treasure contributing to the fabric of this world

  • ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR.

  • Put me on a desert island with everything recorded by James Taylor and Carole King and I'll die in paradise

  • they still got it!! :))

  • Carol King and James Taylor, you cannot get any better then that!

  • Yes, she co-wrote it with Gerry Goffin. Don't know the year, but it was recorded by the Drifters, and that was a very long time ago.

  • Did King write this one?

  • I would just love to see him live, but he sells out in like 15 mins around here.

  • Awesome awesome awesome !

  • rickideemus, We got the stars up above us and the city lights below. Drop what you're doing at night and climb up the stairs with me and see them.

  • @06monarch No, no, right BEFORE that. Starts right at 3:13 . That's what I can't make out. I'm telling you it's DIFFERENT from other JT recordings.

  • This is SO cool. ;)

Can anyone tell me what they sing toward the end -- just before "We got the stars up above us, and the city light below, no no ..."

They're singing something DIFFERENT there from what I've heard, but I can't make it out! TIA

  • they sound so young

  • My Mom used to sing this to my babies (now 31 and 29). RIP Mom, I know you are up on the roof, watching over us. You were so cool to love my songs and my generation. I was blessed to have you as a Mommy. The kids were blessed to have such a cool Mimi ---- sorry they lost you in '86. They missed you as they grew up. I miss you, but this song stays in my mind .. you stole it from my Carole King album and now it's "My Mom's Song" to me. See you on the roof.

    Love, Sis

  • @cindiloohoo552 Bless you hun.

  • @CajunSmack Thank you all for letting me share my most private of thoughts.

    Bless you all.

  • Still good music to my ears.

  • Wow, Thanks

  • damn this is good shit

  • In a thousand years people will remember and sing this song. A good feeling for a very bad day.

  • @enginebelly you are rigt, this is a song unrivalled by anyone

  • we sing this in choir

  • Reminds me of my X husband Sandy and his musical muse Sandi Maxwell. They really clicked together.

  • Close your eyes, for the sound is timeles - Open them to see legends of musical history : )

  • I love this song

  • Outstanding. If I wrote a song this good, I'd record and retire knowing I'd never do anything nearly as good again.

  • @netboy04 I'd say about 90% of her songs are this good. Thankfully, she didn't retire and is still going. :)

  • OK, I was really young when this was originally popular, but both James and Carole are stil as talented as ever. Nothing in popular music is comparable! Just amazing. I've seen James in concert, and I would love to see Carole!

  • One word: Wow!

  • you bring us so much joy, love, peace, salam, shalom - we need you back here in the middle east asap to set things straight - pretty please

  • 2 Legends that still rock the house and voices like no other , Special Mahalo from Hawaii COME TO HAWAII SOON! JAMES & CAROL and friends . We love all you do ..And SHOWER THE PEOPLE with your love in songs!!!!Aloha

  • This is such an amazing, bring down the house moment!

  • simply magical

  • This is FRIGGIN' Fantastic!!! Love these two together..Their being together.. It's MEANT to Be!!

  • I agree rcktmanil

  • I LOVE THIS! I love how the song switches from Carole's version to James's version -- and perfectly. MAN I wish I could have seen this concert.

  • this was one of the best shows that i've ever seen. they were unbelievable.

  • You can get this mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • Love all of their songs. Such wonderful entertainers..Wish I could see them in concert!

  • @Juditutie It is not their song...The Drifters composed this in the 1950's

  • @24kGoldenRocket Juditutie is correct. The song was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. It was first released as a record by The Drifters but not until 1962.

  • Doesn't matter if it's NYC - anywhere this song applies - my roof now - top of a mountain in Colorado - Love Carol King and JT.

  • @jhllozmo I agree. No one sings this quite like CK and JT.

  • Two of the best American composers still doing it!!

Enjoy- If you grew up in NYC ,you can really appreciate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Caught their concert in Columbus, OH in May. It was fantastic. Thanks for this clip, TheMrNova :)

  • They are both so talented!!! sorry I missed this concert...Maybe someday they can come to Bethel Woods... hopefully soon!! :)

  • Carole remains being a beautiful woman and great performer.

  • they should be in the pedestal...

  • I grew up with Carole, James and Carly Simon. When are they coming to Glasgow?

  • Carole... you are so beautiful in so many ways. And James... love ya man!

  • This is one of my favorite - make that "my favorite" - New York City song, and there are so many, aren't there?

  • i saw something on TV a couple of weeks ago about these guys, they were a bit before my time. But their performances were outstanding to say the least. For some one who had not heard them the first time round, even i was in awe of them

  • Two of my most favorite artists. Thanks!
