They might have had good producers, but they could play brilliantly live. Just look at some of their live performances on here. This is a great version of the song, and Holly Johnson's voice is unique.
Long live The Frankies! It was a big deal to have 3consecutive No.1s with your 1st 3 records. They had to be at least half-way decent. Nowadays any fucking clown can do it. Record buyers now are so gullible!!
mate, the whole video was performed on TOP OF THE POPS (TOTP) in england in the 80's. none of them are playing and none of them arree singing.......just listen to the lyrics and start loving the world........whooooo
the band could have played it but the drums were done on a synclavier, the bass also (probably, definately not a fender precision for fks sakes) and the guitars were done by steve lipson or some other geezer that was involved in the background with the music company
Great. This song and it's video diected by Godley and Creme Stuck two fingers up at the establishment. Come back FGTH, i hope you guys are "working out another way".
Great track. Yeah, theyre lip syncking it becuase almost every band thats EVER done TOTP lip synch's!! Iron Maiden are the only exception i know of,,
And saying stuff like "none of the band played on the track" is such a load of shit. They DID play it and had written it 2 years before this performance. Check out the Peel session they did in 82 for proof.
but nothing has really changed. we still rely on popular culture to keep us informed and help us see the world as it really is, while the grey men in grey suits fill their pockets and feed us dreams that they sold to a multi - national long ago
thanks, micromachineman. some people just don't get it, do they? so what if they lipsynched, so what if they were manufactured, people need to listen to the message. we have become a nation of blank minds who worry about what a celebrity wears and where they go and ignore the people with the real message, or is that the way it's always been?
@coppicer "but nothing has really changed. we still rely on popular culture to keep us informed and help us see the world as it really is"
that is precious.
Pop culture helps you see reality? One must learn to triangulate the news, just as any other important data. Don't rely on just 1 source, listen to all sides & then learn to discern.
Or follow your pop-culture emotional feelings. That'll work for the corrupt politicians since you can't reply with real objections (just popular ones)
No we knew they werent playing it...Did you care!!!..I fancied Mark i was 14 and Mum an Dad hated it ..Wasnt that enough!!LOLThis is the one saying FOLLOW ME!!...FGTH...XXX
The reason this different version exists is because the BBC Musicians Union insisted that any songs with orchestral elements had to represented on stage by real musicians playing or - as done here - removed from the version performed on screen. BTW Frankie were real musicians as represented by their superb live concert performances.
