Hi, you mention that you had a complete lesion at T9, did you lose function completely below that level 3 years ago? i.e. are you able to move now when you previously could not or have you always had movement remaining?
Hi martinetuede, there was a period of time when there was absolutely nothing at all. Only a twitch about 2 months into therapy. Significant movements and return only started to really show up about 8 months in. I've seen others get some return back faster and some slower. This video is now a bit older but was the result of a whole lot of work. I'm away from the therapy now for the winter. It'll be interesting to see what happens when I get back to it in March to see if I have maintained.
That really is fantastic progress and proof that the CNS is able to repair itself with your determination. I would not doubt that your function will return if you keep the strong attitude
Yes, I know the lokomat. Not very many here in Canada and expensive. This system I use was because the lokomat was expensive therapy. We were going to add a treadmill but my ceiling isn't high enough to lift me afterwards. My injury was classed as complete but you see the video that it is not. Much hard work involved but worth the effort :)
well i think that here in my clinic is cheaper than there the tratment(Lugo, Galicia, Spain), otherwise if you need information or advices about theraphy, i can help u as a physio and ostheopath. Best wishes. Felix Fernandez. Fisioterapia Ronda.
Thank you Felix, They charge about 300 dollars per hour for the lokomat and insurance usually didn't cover it. My physio back home is also an osteopath! I wish one of you were close by right now...I could use a treatment I have been working hard away from home for the winter. If you saw my other video my bridging has improved since that was taken too. I can do that without help now :) Thank you for the support, I'm going to keep you in mind.
movement that you produces in your legs, but your main problem is your weight, cause your mussels can´t suport it. Try with Lokomat and you will improve, you will feel better and you will have more power to walk with your method wich i consider very well done, do you have an physio dayly?
Never had physio daily. Have now cut back to once a month. Cannot afford the money for any more than that. My weight is a big problem I know. Have lost some but not an easy task. That video is 2 years ago. Still have good leg muscles now so the therapy really does work.
Great determination, man. I'm a C-7 injury and the only workouts that I do at home are a hundred push-ups a day, doing two hundred modified side bends and another two hundred left to right hip swings while laying on my stomach and elbows everyday. I lost some inches on my sides but I still have a beer belly 'cause its almost impossible for me to do crunches due to my level of injury.
Another thing that I really find relieving doing is pushingmy upper body up while lying on my belly until both my elbows are hyperextended and my lower back is in an arc shape. This is my favorite because it releases the stress on my lower back. I usually do three of these and hold each for over thirty seconds before and after after each workout.
i treat patients with incomplete injuries and the fact is that we treat it with a treadmil call lokomat, if you know, the sistem has a external orthesis wich improves you the quality of the movement of your legs, thrunk control, and the heart works very well, the consecuence of this is that you feel the sensation of exercice again and could improve the control of other mussels that you hadn´t control before. In this video i can see that you have very well control about your
Oh wow, you're just starting out on your journey. Anything I can do to provide information to you please feel free to leave me a message. You have a complete or incomplete injury? I don't mind sharing my knowledge so don't be shy, if I can help I will. It's not always easy or pleasant but try and keep positive most of the time and you'll make out ok. Again, please contact if you wish.
where did you go for rehab and did it cost you much? im not exactly sure if i would get anything out of it causemy accident was quite bad. T2 broke and was sticking thru the skin and T3 dislocated
The initial rehab was in Toronto Canada at Lyndhurst, Toronto Rehab. It was covered by my auto insurance so that portion didn't cost. My physiotherapist working with me in this video is the one that has helped the most but at $100/hr. but speicializes in this type of injury. I wouldn't say impossible until you give it a good try. I didn't think I'd get anything back either. I will say if you do not try then you will not gain. cont'd
If you were closer I could get you set up really well but I'll be happy to offer any advice and suggestion that I can from so far away. How long since you were injured? Generally, the sooner you get to work on trying to fire the nerves, the better chance. Try and send signals whenever you can. It seems foolish but believe me, that is uaually how it starts to recover. Working your legs and abdomen can minimize atrophy and bone loss too.
good job!!!! I had JRA childhood arthrits when I was 8 until 11. I had 4 feet surgerys the first 1's were major one in 99 and one in 00.

pretty exhausting but it has helped to prevent or at least slow down many of the issues associated with paralysis so it is well worth it.
thanks for the comment!
