i'd never heard this version but can you say clueless production? That ladies and gentleman is what you call a badly produced and arranged track. Wow. It destroys everything nice about the Castlevania Iv version. What were they thinking....
I think what this version has going for it is the intro. definately. in fact they could have spun it out longer. The way the drums kick in is just awesome.
I find I hate all newer versions of good old video game tracks. They're never nearly as hard and heavy as I think they should be. Like I really just want to hear the songs performed (true to the original arrangements) by a good metal band. Specifically this song, Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears (yeah, the fucking fast CV2 way), and maybe Anxiety from CV3. That'd be sweet. Hell, I'd do it myself, but i suck at the guitar...
Check out the Naoto Shibata Project they did 2 heavy metal albums of Castlevania songs. The first album has most of the standard tunes (Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears, Beginning, Opus 13, Cross A Fear) while the 2nd has some more obscure ones (Thrashard In The Cave, Legend of Dracula Theme). On another note, I kind of agree with you, I enjoy the NES tracks a lot, especially the Japanese version of Castlevania 3, but the Rondo of Blood music is just as good if not better.
Sorry I ran out of room. Just to let you know the metal versions in essence true to the sound but they are embellished a bit, especially the amazing solos.

And that's what Dracula's glare in the art is for. He sees that and is thinking, "You bastard."
