that federer forehand at 2:32 is the one he has trouble with as he's aged....his footwork has slowed just slightly and is unable to get around enough to hit a winner like that
It might just be me, but Fed looks a little slower in this match. I know he's not one of the fastest players, though he does have absolutely brilliant movement and shot awareness, but in a lot of the points, it looks like he's not putting in as much effort as he normally would. Perhaps the humidity and weather conditions at Miami during this time was sapping him? In any case, awesome video.
hes the most unstable commentator out there, first hes in love with federer, then he sais roger has "no balls" (when facing) nadal at the french open, then he jumps on the murray bandwagon, falls in love with nadal and suddenly he sais federer is playing his best tennis at 30
I remember him being one of the first commentators calling Federer the goat (even before he won the french open) and then after the swiss he wins rolland garros he sais that hes still not the best
damn they have the same strengths, weakness', and strategy. fed's strength and weakness' are better than that of blake's and i never noticed this before but fed's preparation and footwork is always on point so i think he's able to get to more shots than even blake as fast as he is. i think fed is faster
@wtfjjij its not that federer is faster he just has better footwork and blake's footwork suck in comparison because he refuses to defend even when he needs to he instead hits a dumb winner when on the run
I miss these days, Federer played so fucking good that year, it really was unbelievable. It's sad that those days are over, he's still good, but he will never play like this again.
Blake got to #4 with a sensless game and a crap coach. If he would have hired a great coach (cahill, gilbert, stefanki) then there is no reason why he couldn't have won a grand slam.
If Federer didn't fire his coach, then would he have won all the French Opens before 2009? I don't think you can really second guess how Blake would have done with a "better" coach and a game that didn't agree with his desires. Maybe he would have done better in general if he didn't hit the pole in the middle of his career.
blake is realy good, second best american on tour, but fed is a level or two ahead of him. He one of the best return of serve, and he has a compleat game. I think that sence he lost his title as #1 he's gotten better. He played diffently when he just beat nadal the latest time.
That's true, but that's also why he's so much more inconsistent compared to Fed. Blake actually plays a very similar style to Federer but no where near as consistent. Blake can match Fed forehand to forehand, but it's always high risk with Blake (hit or miss). When Blake hits a flat forehand it's probably one of the best in the world, but Federer's IS the best in the world because he very rarely ever misses it. Fed plays with much more margin for error. He also has better shot selection.
Very true about the difference between Fed and Blake and I would add to that Fed's far more developed and complete technique on every shot. Blake's BH still looks like he's still learning the shot. His FH is all or none and most of that comes from technique, the very short backswing, the footwork and such.
Federer and Blake have totally different playing styles... Blake is A LOT more offensive than Federer. Blake utilises his speed in order to have as many chances to attack while Roger uses his speed in order to stay in the point. In fact, Roger counter punches many times against players such as Blake and in many people's eyes, his tendency to stay too passive is why Federer hasn't had the same record against Nadal as Blake did in the previous years. Blake is content with muscling the ball.
No, they use different strategies on the court and Federer adapts his game to different players while Blake really only uses the same strategy against everyone. But their abilities (strengths and weaknesses) are very similar. Both have strong forehands, vulnerable backhands, good returns, solid volleys and they both serve at about the same speed. The main difference is that Federer is much more consistent and has the ability to change his game. His serve is a little more consistent as well.
How things have changed...unfortunately. What Federer struggles the most with these days is consistency. It's sad to see that Fed has become such a hit or miss player in the later rounds. Granted even at his worst, he'll still beat 95% of the tour buts its the top guys he's losing to because of this inconsistency and its the tops that that are very often waiting for him in the latter rounds of the slams.
To all, just go watch Fed play in person before he retires, its amazing
switching racquets was never a problem for federer. i remember when he first got the k factor and demolished everyone at ao 07 without dropping a set - mono and confidence are his real problems
Federer is losing to nadal. get over it. i'm a federer fan, but i dont look for excuses that he lost. federer has been playing a lot better with his k factor than his old prostaff with ncode paintjob. every high has a low
I don't know whether it's the paint job or if his racquet had a different balance or weight back then... but I swear fed was better with the "n-code" racquet.
And his nCode was NOT a paintjob. Federer NEVER used a paintjob. He just used customized versions. People have tested his racket, and it plays very similar to the stock nCode racket except for certain small things due to his customizations (which makes it play more like the [K]Factor version). But other than the look and "[K]arophite Black" material, his racket hasn't changed. And he played WAY better back then. His forehand was INSANELY good!
His ncode was a paintjob. It was the prostaff under it. Certain things like ncode's 5 grommets at PWS as opposed to his having 4 like the old prostaff.
well, it has changed, the n-code was a midplus size frame, his present k-six-one is mid size and has a thinner beam for maximum control, he also uses gut on the whole string bed, with the ncode he used a hybrid luxilon-gut! so there are changes..
roger just has superior ability, shot placement and better all court game, especially volleys..his net game makes a lot of difference compared to many players , who are basically baseliners, with only reasonable volleys..
from the baseline james can give roger a hard time with his powerful forehands, I think roger breaks james ryhtm with the slice and moves him around and comes to the net alot when he can..
Think? Did you see the match he played against Fabrice Santoro a few days ago? Now lets see, Fabrice Santoro is ranked 44, Blake is ranked, what, 6th? Fabrice Santoro gave Blake the hardest time ever, you could SEE how pissed off Blake was hence he did not expect such performance from Fabrice Santoro. Rank 44 Vs rank 6? The difference is huge in numbers, but the way Fabrice Santoro played, you can not say that he played like someone thats ranked 44th. So top 10 or not, thats all BS.
than blake? I wouldn't say that. It depends how you play in a match, not whos in a higher ranking. Sometimes Blake plays better than Federer, sometimes Federer plays better than Blake.
unless he's playing Canas... just kidding LOL... I knew he was going to lose eventually to somebody after that long winning streak but thought it would be to Nadal and not Canas...
