An astonishing movie...so beautifully filmed and brilliantly acted by a wonderful cast.

I remember first seeing it when I was about 11/12 yrs and I spent the whole movie trying not to burst into tears...in front of my male peers...boy was that hard work!!!

Haven't been moved like that since...before or after.

Yes, the story was somewhat fabricated in parts for the purpose of the movie...but that does not detract or make it any less powerful imo.

I enjoyed this movie because it was a slice of my own personal life. The humanity both kind and morose in this movie caused a well of tears to finally come out. I feel more for John Merrick because he dearly wanted to leave word to his beloved mother that in the end everything would work out. And ti did.
