I say all the time that today's music wouldn't be nothing without joy division. It's the first time I listen to this band and now I have to change my speech haha. I guess today's music wouldn't be nothing without these guys :)
31 people are idiots for disliking. I remember first hearing Neu on a local radio station KZUM in Nebraska on their Sunday night show "Other Music". Neu is what propelled me to becoming a Kraftwerk fan.
@cparamo How the F did Kraftwerk go from Ruckzuck to 'The Model' ? Needed a few Deutschmarks and went commercial? I can't see any other reason. But it did work, to a certain extent.
@xraycortina After Klaus Dinger left for NEU! Ralf and Florian didn't have a drummer so they used drum machines in rehearsals and hired drummers for gigs. Eventually they decided that the machines were better than the drummers and used them on albums. They still used accoustic instruments (organs, flutes) for a while but when you are using something as odd as a drum machine was in 1973 it follows to use electronic instruments as well. Then they got a hit with Autobahn, and the rest is history...
For the younger generation out there, this is not a new giant CD...Or is it? This was very useful along with Television's MARQUEE MOON, for toilet breaks when I used to do a live radio show...." This one goes out to Stephen Ashton in Canada"
Im 18 and this is my first time hearing of NEU! Im literally in awe and so eager to find more.... right after i listen to this through one more time :)
how would you call this music style? it´s great - taking me back from modern techno trance times to my birth when obviously there existed cool music beneath Beatles and Udo Jürgens :-)
Excelente combinación de ritmos estilo CAN y con un propio estilo, una reliquia que no tiene tiempo final. Son generos que siempre van en el tiempo. Un homenaje para ellos.
Yes, one of the best no doubt, this was such a fantastic song. It was so ahead of its time that if it came out tomorrow, I would still think it was ahead.
As others have said... How have I missed this... I'm 36, and various friends have been telling me to check out Neu for the last 15 years, and this is the 1st Neu song I've listened to . Isn't it just fucking brilliant?
Jesus, thank god for my music class, I love my teacher. I remember I had heard this song in a billy idol concert when the band was setting up, thought id never know the name of the song, but I do now and love it!
I've read so much about Neu being an influence to many of the new-wave, electronica and ambient artists, but never heard their stuff. Now I know why people want to emulate this group. Thanks.
I can't believe you have that on vinyl. So jealous. I just did a cycling vid with Neu! -Hero. Titled it Hallo Gallo after this song which is another fave. They were sooo ahead of their time. :)
Mach Dir keine Sorgen! Ein einfacher MP3-Player und wir können unsere Musik und NEU hören, so oft wir noch wollen. Und das werde ich; bis zum letzen Atemzug. :-)
Mit lieben Grüßen aus dem (noch nicht ganz so hohen Norden)
Excellent record, but the tracking weight of the stylus on those lower end turntables are actually really hard on vinyl. Not something I would use to play something as rare and valuable as an original Brain/Metronome pressing of that album.
If you like this, go and check out the song's (Immer Wieder is my favorite) on Harmonia's album called "Harmonia DeLuxe". It's from the same era and equally brilliant, I'd say.
Ha ha ha ha, yes, how have we missed this all our lives? Almost 40 years old, and I can hear oh so many things in it. It's so obvious now that Secret Machines ripped 'em off to pieces with almost every guitar line, but I don't hold it against 'em, cos now Ben Curtis has come full circle. :)
I have to put my two cents in. This is a trulyawesome distillation of the rock format into something entirely different. What I would have given to have heard this at the time, without the benefit of having heard the music that it influenced. It must have been like hearing the future. I like to think that I would have been right there with them, and not a philistine.
