Sure, there is a balance, you don't want to wear a tuxedo to the gym, and you may not want a 3 piece suit to go to your buddies house for Monday night football, because that would be silly.

A stylish blazer, jeans, and a vest isn't really that formal anymore, its something that can be worn casually.

Sorry to hear that. First thing i would do is look for a short style of hair. the shorter the hair, the longer you will keep it. If you have a nice head shape, you could always clip it very short, grow some facial hair and you will look great.

Here's a tip though, bad lighting that day you say? Doesn't really matter, maybe the problem is your camera. You need to adjust the white balance I think, before shooting your video adjust the white balance while holding a white piece of paper in front of your cam (so your cam knows how to recognize the color white)
