The cross slide motor is older/weaker than the square style steppers; After I took this video I noticed inconsistent performance because the rapids were set too fast. The leadscrew motor is from Keling CNC is a great source for various stepper motors and drives as well. Sherline is plug and play but they charge a premium when it comes to motors and control box. For the controls I'm using a C11 breakout board, polulu stepper drives and Mach3 in demo mode with some built-in turning wizards.
The leadscrew motor seems to be the stock Sherline stepper. What is the crosslide motor? It seems bigger and faster. Also what control box do you use? And CAM software? Is it EMC2?
Sorry for all the questions, just learning my way toward placing an order to Sherline. :D
