Usually to increase insulation we would add ridged foam to the outside of the wall but we personally don't use anything to "add to the mix" for that purpose. A small amount of portland cement is used to stabilize the wall in case of rain exposure during construction.
The reason it looks like concrete is because the crusher fines we use are grey. If you look at our video "The Process of Building Rammed Earth Walls" you can get a better idea of it.
Is there something you can add to this mix to increase the insulation, but not ruin it's stable integrity!? Thanks. Is there 'any' cement added?
