  • alot of people didn't like this album but it grew on me and is one of my favourite albums

  • i love it...don't think its gay lol

  • Hmmm....this is the first time I've ever seen this video for the song. (Which I have imagined a zillion times.)

I must say that it's over the top--from what I'd imagined. I mean, I guess that I thought it was about trying to get the ((real)) idea of love between married people, but it seems to be more about disco music and shoddy nightclub liasons between village people. Heh. What do I know...?

  • best styliss

  • cool song ,love Edge's little dance....

  • The song they did for Batman Forever was fucking amazing. Shame the film was only amazing.

  • I'm sorry to intercept any meaningful talk, but in my opinion U2's videos and songs are exactly the opposite of newcomers like "Pitbul" for instance, who try to destroy the look and feel of pure pop, although they could easily contribute to pop's ascending...

  • I am mexican. When I was 5 and this album had just been released, my mom came home from work one night with two presents for me: A walkman (remember those?), and a cassette: POP, by U2.

Fourteen years later I still remember putting my headphones on, playing the cassette and listening to this song, the opening track, and loving it. Even though I know this album was an experiment with pop music, almost in an ironic way, I find great songwriting in it. I love these guys.

  • Sort of like it now (the song) but at the time was responsible for putting me off U2 for 6 years with the stupid Village People esq video. Tragic.

  • Always dug the irony, fun, and tightness of this vid/song.

  • it's a weird videoclipe. but so much funny! kkkkkk

  • Good tune, crappy for U2

  • Fucking tune this. Just wacked this on with head phones. Class.

  • this was a highly anticipated alblum needless to say it flopped

  • My favorite U2 song

  • aaaaaamoooooo esta canción con el alma....!!!

  • @DMNKOTBINXSU2 ademas Bono se ve muy sexy...!!!!

  • my favourite is the edge :3

  • HAHAHAHA this is the funniest, most random video I have ever watched!! I love how into Bono gets and how not into it Larry gets, they just crack me up! LOVE U2!

  • i think i saw duke nukem

  • "I am the law. I am Judge Dredd."

This song was made for a PROPER Judge Dredd film. ))))

  • @tubeman123100 Like the one you wrote, you fucking Mongo cunt?

  • This would sound cool in a Judge Dredd film. "Lawgiver to rapid fire!"

    :)

  • @tubeman123100 Fuck off, Scott.

  • BONO as a cop.....YUMMMMMMM !!!!! :D

  • the drum n bass of this tune is soo freaking awesome. everything falls perfectly at 2:29 onwards..its like a bullet train that you don't want to stop..:-)

  • I love Edge's daft little dance......

  • 1997 is the year

  • sometimes i do that gay dance at the end.

  • I wanted to see Larry do some pelvic thrusting ;____;

  • Hilarious when the rest of the band are watching approvingly at Edge's daft little dance.

  • it's not gay idiots it's real disco dancing!

  • the vids gay, but the song is f****** amazing!

  • SEEEEEXYYYYYYY

  • liked the song when I heard it on sirius. still like it. Edge da shit. Bono didnt have to keep stickin his bono in the camera though. Maybe the producer of the vid told him to. The fuck am I talkin bout Bono may have produced and directed it.

  • @bearcabbie i REALLY hope he didnt....

  • Edge does play some amazing guitar on this song but Larry is looking like he is thinking "What the hell are we doing?".

  • The Edge puts in some memorable riffs!

  • Sweeet:)

  • 4:21 Edge must have watched that back and cried.

  • It's funny. Before even seeing this music video back in '99 (i think), I imagined the video to be the band playing in some heavily light-up room exactly like the one used in the music video. No joke...

  • The version on the 1990-2000 greatest hits album is the best version of this song. The GH version had an epic buildup at the beginning, and the original one felt like it started very early, but that doesn't mean the original is poor, its stll good. but the GH 1990-2000 version blew me away.

  • hahahaha Larry wasn't really into it

  • i can truly say... one of the best U2 vids.... fricken awesome!!

  • Fact is, U2 were a bigger band because they stuck to European UK influences instead of trying to do too much with American ones, no matter how fascinated they may have been with them.

REgardless of what influences they have, they have Bono's voice, Edge's guitar, both of their melodic sensibilities, and a slamming rhythm section with a perfect bass player and an inventive drummer. There's not a weak link in the bunch.

  • I admire U2 for doing what was basically an experiment with the 'Pop' album, and the irony-fuelled tour that followed. It was a massive departure, the first album without Eno/Lanois producing since 'War' in 1983 - 14 years earlier. The album was regarded by many fans and critics, and even by the band themselves later on,as not a very good album. The tour sort of worked in most places but flopped in America. I admire U2's courage to do it all though. Most big bands wouldn't have had the guts to try.

  • @EnglishChannel1 Was it one big tongue in cheek OTT show/ album/ tour then?

  • @SethHesio It was an extention of Achtung Baby/ZooTv, the 1991-1993 phase of the band, where they hid behind a mask as irony/cheesy behaviour to try and convey seriousness. Very differnt from their standard 'seriousness' of the 1980s. It went a bit off-message with Pop/PopMart, going too far down the cheesy/kitsch route and the message of what they were trying to convey got lost. As Bono said in 1997: "we started playing with irony, then it started playing with us". It all became a bit too weird.

  • @EnglishChannel1 thanks for that! Yeah irony is a tricky one some times... sounds like they got lost lol. Still a cool song and video though. :)

  • lol...later part of the video, larry was like "oh man, i don't get what i'm doing" lol

  • Great song!!!

  • U2 proved that pop can be good if you have talent.

  • @amdreh exactly so true, I mean it shows how lazy most pop 'stars' are and boring actually. Mike Patton did the same thing with his peeping tom album and it was brilliant. U2 are just too brilliant though lol

  • Larry in 4:34 hehehe

  • Larry in 4:34 hehehe

  • U2 RULES.....

  • The edge is legendary

  • If this was the disco that came out in the late 70's, I might have liked it. Unfortunately, it sucked back then.

  • @gearguitarguy Couldn't' have put it better myself.

  • Absolutely love this hee hee!

  • I'd forgotten how much of a classic this was. Great song, even better video.

    H.

  • achtung baby 91' till pop 98' a good time on experimentation by U2

  • this song is genial!

i wonder how come they have songs which are so unique and that have little to do with their overall style.

  • Larry dancing in a cowboy costume...what's not to like about that! HYSTERICAL!!! I am sure he protested..yet wiser minds did not prevail. LOL! Got paid well though I'll bet!!

  • Pop, no es mi álbum favorito de U2, pero tiene varios temas buenos... este es uno de los que me gusta (mi favoriot es Staring at the sun)! jajajajaja Baila sexy Bono :P

  • It was all downhill from that point for Bono and the boys, alas.

  • Alright, who put acid in my drink?

  • Didn't realize how gay this is. And I'm gay.

  • @harrysingh8888

    best comment ever :D

  • @harrysingh8888 wanna see a very gay u2 clip? Lemon from the album zooropa

    It's all over the place!

  • mmmmm excuse me while i loose myself for a while

  • i love this song. U2 gone disco and they got it right. sometimes, everyone has to do a disco record every once in a while. NIN did it a couple of years ago and it kicked ass.

  • The Edge in leather! (sigh!)

  • This is cool. :) Larry and his cowboy suit. :D

  • You just can't get enough of that lovey dovey stuff... ;)

  • @CrystalW07 imaculate conception!!! :)

  • @CrystalW07 That's really funny! :)

  • @CrystalW07 Did you bear it, already?

  • The lads have got some right moves on 4:21 especially the edge. It would pull the chicks in a right seedy back street club.

  • @marknic79 i think your find thay would be pulling guys or each other off in those outfits in some seedy back street club darling.

  • One of mine fav! Love it!

  • happy 5oth bono

  • Genius!

  • amazing sound and still great song

  • i really like this video, has a good beat,so many of U2`s songs are fantastic, ive been listening to them since i was a kid.

  • fucking awesome song..too bad America was too stupid to get it.

  • @halation777 Yea American was too stupid to get it ... yet this song was on numerous US charts.

    U.S. Billboard Hot 100 - 10

    U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play - 1

    U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales - 1

    U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks - 6

    U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks - 1

    U.S. Billboard Top 40 Mainstream - 40

  • @halation777 what an ignorant remark.

  • You know you're chewing bubblegum,

you know what it is but you still want some :)

  • great vid and epileptic people should not see this! THE LIGHTS!!

  • I just wonder why this song is not known. its f** AWESOME :DDD

  • rewelka :)

  • What in the name of love were they thinking? I haven't laughed so much in ages.

  • well it was the 90's haha

  • @kenthesinger bono's idea was to create a song that was sort of like an 'ode' to pop music and it's strongest era, which was the disco era...and they wanted to have rediculous fun with them! i remember hearing his explanation to MANY of his songs in '97 when he was at a L.A. radio station. Too bad i can't remember the name of it or i would look it up on here.

  • fantastic song

  • Not gonna work, clown. Keep playing around. This time I may just report you myself. Why don't you just shut up and leave it alone?

  • wow!!! how interesting!

sorry, guys! pay no attention! i didn't want to interrupt!

    :]

  • You shouldn't have messaged me and had me preemptively blocked, SharkGoddess. Why do you play these games?
