@Ijustinsultedyou i 1st heard it in the 1983 movie "Valley Girl" when i was a sophmore in High School... its played at the party when Julie and Nicolas Cage meet!
I remember listening to this song when I was 4 years old, and my mom would put this song on her cd player while I was swimming in the pool. I never heard this song again until a couple of days ago on the radio. I'll never forget this song again
Dam, i love this song!! I remember listening to this song way back in "82" and liking it. But listening to it now, wow it really grows on you. Love the background music. Everybody says it sounds like Bowie, i agree, it really does!!
I first heard these guys in 84 or 85 i think. flew to san diego, rented a bad ass riviera, turned on the radio, and these guys were on 91x. been hooked ever since. love playing my ibanez with the furs loaded on the bose.
@PillyAndGirl The real question is what happened to the radio. I can name a lot of good newer bands that I never hear on the radio. Arcade Fire, Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, Avett Brothers, Ravonettes and a lot more
I was going through my Def Leppard/Iron Maiden heavy metal phase in school when this song came out, and it was probably one of the first "New Wave" songs to ever catch my attention. It's been one of my favorite songs of all time since it came out, and it still haunts me. I always thought it should be used in some retro-80's vampire film during some evil seduction scene.
I didn't like this song when it came out....but 30 years later..not a bad song. I remember my girlfriend loved this song, but I hated it. Now it sounds better than anything coming out now.
@sanberdoofoo So...did you marry that girlfriend or dump her? In other words, was your opposite reaction to the song the turning point in that relationship? Do you miss her?
they'd put us on a railroad they'd dearly make us pay for laughing in their faces and making it our way there's emptiness behind their eyes there's dust in all their hearts they just want to steal us all and take us all apart but not in
I'm 17 and i've always been an 80s kid at heart like i know everything about those times the music, movies, tv, culture basically..i still to this day wish i could've actually lived it i hate the new millenium :(
The 80s new wave days were too cool. Madonna also started the lingerie in public look in the 80s. I was walking around The University Of Texas campus with my tongue dragging the ground. It was sexy.
@AbaddonSpanks Eh...I could MAYBE see where you could make the mistake of believing it was Bowie lol but Psych Furs were simply genius :) not that Bowie was/wasn't
The Furs were big contributors to the decade of great 80's sounds. Love My Way and Ghost In You were two of the immortals... songs that never get old.
I miss this MTV.. when they played GOOD stuff.. such as MUSIC videos.. not THE BANE OF TELEVISION.. those crappy assed reality shows.. how the hell did we let it get away from the Music.. Oh yeah.. dumbasses couldn't leave THE REAL WORLD alone... Hated that goddamned show because I KNEW what it would lead too.. BINGO I was right.. Just look at all the good videos on Youtube and imagine.. we could be watching and listening to that on mtv..
@JerryR6868 Not trying to boast, but I'm 14, I wouldn't really know as much as some of you people but... music today doesn't have that "sound" it had back then. Most of it today sucks, there's a few independent artists out there that are relatively decent but that top 40's crap isn't talent and isn't even remotely from the soul. It's 100% for the money and it's so easy to tell. And God forbid how much worse it'll get, and all I can do is pray my children are exposed to this great music.
@gabeyoung12345 yeah, even though I was technically born back then, I was too young to be hip to what was in until the late 80's. But it just does something that modern music doesn't. There's rare exceptions, but 90% of modern stuff is just, well, boring. And it's not just the 80's (even though it's my fave), there's also tons of amazing stuff in the 60's and 70's too.
Music like this, as well as a wide range of 60s-80s rock is the real reason why I truly love the 60s-80s. If only I was born in that time... Lol *sigh* where is that time machine?!
Flo & Eddie (of the Mothers of Invention) on harmony vocals. For those of you who don't know who Flo & Eddie are that'd be Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan of the Turtles. Remember the 60's love-joy rock & roll songs like "Happy Together" & "Elenore"? Yep that's them.
@monks311 yeah i tried that once in court on a DUI charge....
"BUT YOUR HONOR....I WAS D R U N K ! ! ! !"....
of course, after that brilliant defense, i was exonerated of all charges, and paid a handsome restitution for having been so rudely inconvenienced....and as i look back, i wonder if it had anything to do with my being the king of the sovereign nation of klopstokia....
It was 83 and my father and I would go in his new Eldorado to the arcade. Song's like this and Lionel Ritchie would play on the radio. Donkey Kong and Elevator Action would wait for us.
Today I have the Deville, listen to the same tunes on my radio, go to my girl's house and play arcade classics on her son's Xbox. Technology has changed, music today is shit so its nice to at least have this
