i have been using bolas for a while i use big machine nuts and para cord :) good for catching chickens and geese, not alive, not with those machine nuts,hit a bird in the head with one and it's done. :) it just take practice and as far as throwing you weapon,not much you can use a bola for in hand to hand unless you were good with a rope dart which the same principles would apply here. i would throw them, and always have a primary, this is more of a "expendable" weapon.

because that you most carry many "boleadoras", bolas perdidas (one big stone), "ñanduzeras" (two stones), "las tres marias" (3 stones) and you can use these like melee weapon
just check them out / I wasn't suggesting getting one....there were a few Native American tribes that used them for hunting...Inuit for an example....
