Actually, the referee is within his rights to stand wherever he likes on the field. Standing next to the far post at a corner is honestly the best place to stand if you want to see everything. The reason its not common in higher leagues of footbll is that if the ball is cleared staright away, you'll need a pretty good set of legs to catch up with play. :D And of course he awarded the goa! probably took him ages to practise that!
