@capelstreetgal . I've caused some confusion, you are the second person to ask- I'm am neice of James' wife Eve. So I didn't grow up in Ireland, but I did grow up having the privledge of hearing him play music throughout the house when I would visit.
James Kelly is my uncle and he's an awesome fiddle player! I don't get a chance to visit him now, because I stay busy with my three small ones, but I have fond memories of when I would get to visit as a child during the summer or on x-mas break, and he would play for me.
Hi there, met your uncle in Miltown Malbay in ´97.He stayed in the B&B where i worked and i also got a cd from him, Which was very nice of him.HE´s really nice.
he has an arsenal of perfectly spaced rolls....like coleman. not many people put enough time into their rolls these days. james kelly is a rare exception.
I knew his brother John and his dad back in Dublin many ears ago and listened to many a session . Great to see James doing well . Recall having a long mad weekend in the village of Cross down at the tip of Clare near Loop Head . Many thanks for bringing back pleasant memories.
Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong country. Sure, I'm of Scott and Irish heritage, and look it with red hair and blue eyes. And all the names are there, Kelly, McFadin, ect. And yes, I know family history forwards and backwards, County Cork and all the names and dates. But when I hear music like this and I could listen all day. I realize just how much it's in me and it doesn't feel ancestral, it feels right now. Thanks for putting this up. Smiles, Ruth
I had the experience of taking a master class from James about 15 years ago at a fiddler's house, Fred Lail. He kicked my ass, and I was ready to quit playing, but it changed my life. I became an authentic-sounding Irish style fiddler.
Yes , manys the time I saw Old John Kelly, Joe Ryan (R.I.P. and sadly missed ), Conor Tully, Sean Casey , Noel Hill etc. all playing together in The 4 Seasons pub at the top of Capel Street.Great Days!

James Kelly, what a legend? Have his 'Melodic Journeys' album and its genius.
You would think there was two fiddles going there at the same time, amazing.
